Jim Jigger and I went on a day trip a couple weeks ago looking for monster lakers. He was going to post this but, hahahaha, kept hitting the backspace button when we wasn't in the "editor" mode and quit trying. I mapped out some lakes off of Red Squirrel road, studies depths and had some 7-10" frozen and salted chub ready as ammo. The plan semed flawless, except for one thing: Red Squirrel road never quite melted and my truck is useless in deep snow. After playing the drums on my dashboard a few times, we turned around and decided to take the ice road on Lake Temagami and look for fish, blindly. I used my rod and auger as a depth finder...I must have drilled 50 holes that day looking for shoals and depth changes. Jim Jigger pulled in two decent size lakers and missed another at the hole. I, unfortunately come home with nothing but a sore auger shoulder. We had some misfortune, but overall it was a fantastic trip and a good learning experience on Temagami. Enjoy

Went to my old stomping grounds on Nosbonsing looking for some gators in the weeds with a friend. The house directly in the background was built by my Grandfather more than 40 years ago. When he passed away my Grandma had to move closer to town but we still hold a lot of great memories at this place. We started in 20 feet of water and moved in shallow to 5 feet where we started getting some action in the thick greenery. Historically we used to catch tons of decent size pike, the odd monster and once a 15lbs walleye! This time the small rockets came out to play. We brought in two and missed three, including one big one. The misses were my fault, as I've been locked in walleye mode using smaller hooks and no leaders. Two of the lines we properly set up, but the other two were not. This was a last minute trip so I get what I deserve. Highlight of the day: A nice, just under the slot walleye took my 4inch smelt-like spoon in 5 feet of water. Caught a few tiny ones in nipissing along the waterfront shores. Apparently they can be found in some rivers off Nipissing in the spring. Up our way, there is no season or limit.

That is a funny thought. Of course with ice fishing, like divorce, you have to be a sucker for punishment.

Very cool story. Imagine beating the white bass record by over 12lbs! It must be like catching a 15lbs crappie.

I'm going right back to my ice fishing spot on Nipissing and vertically jigging for walleye.

Sad to see the MNR's focus is on menial and controversial contraventions in your area. It's not likely they'll bust a perennial poacher when they visit the same few, high traffic lakes. I haven't seen any CO's this year yet... when I do, I sure hope they don't bother me when I bring a couple beer for me and buddy on the ice over a 6 hour fishing trip. Especially after all the effort I expend following the fishing regs and practicing C & R on prize fish. I'm taking a chance that's for sure. None the less I'm happy to see they are catching the people who think they can circumvent the angling and hunting regs.

My brother still uses the Daredevil as his go to lure for bass, pike and even walleye. I don't find it subtle enough for all applications and haven't used it much since I was a young pike hunter. Back in those days it was "the" lure of choice for us. The Len Thompsons have always been far and above the nicest ones for weight and movement in my opinion. In Alberta I would use the small 5 of diamond Len Thompson for both walleye and pike in the Athabasca, both river and lake...everyone out there lives by those I've never seen such a prominent lure like the 5 of diamonds in North Alberta. In one lake we smashed over 100 walleye in less than half a day using only the five of diamonds...boy do the fish ever smack them hard!

Several refinery's leaking into the river don't help much either

If it's mostly just around the windows then I'd say it's a condensation leak, but that does not explain the high humidity. I have a condensation leak in my condo and even at 40% humidity I see condensation on my ceiling. It's all associated to bad insulation and cold air coming in contact with my walls/ceiling.

I've recently been invited to one, my first one, as I've somehow avoided all the other ones I have no prob buying the ticket to support my buddy...after this thread however, I'll be screening the event for cheeziness and panhandlers.

55-60% humidity will definitly create mold in your place. It should be 45-50% . A dehumidifier might help this, but adds to your energy costs. You may want to consider better venting and air movement in your place. Sounds like the builders focused on insulation rather than air movement. As Merc said, some newer houses are sealed too well and invite humidity retention and mold growth. Consider going through insurance and calling it water damage. Record everything you do including dates, photographs, ...keep a good log. If it goes through insurance, they'll send in professionals that know how to solve your problem. The builder might be on the hook for the claim. If it wasn't so darn expensive, I'd suggest calling mold experts in right away, they would help you properly ventilate the place.
