Simply amazing report!! Another monster pike...I'm speechless!!!

Whoever posted the youtube link to that British program....thanks! Found it very interesting. Haven't watched all 8 parts yet, but I felt compelled to post a little something. I'm not saying who is right and wrong, but it sure makes you think. Part 3 talks about CO2 emissions...specifically the human factor. The program stated that Volcanoes emit more CO2 than all man made sources combined. They said that humans produce about 6.5 gigatons per year. This compares with animals and bacteria at around 150 gigatons. The single biggest source is the oceans. In percentage terms, humans are responsible for single digit CO2 emissions. The program does NOT say that CO2 level are NOT increasing, they are saying that to say humans are the main cause is incorrect. Part 4 goes into something that actually makes more sense to me. It compared the suns activity and global temps. Here's a screen shot.... This says that when solar activity is up (ie sunspot activity), so is the Earth's temp. The effects of heating the oceans affects CO2 production from it...the single biggest source of CO2 on the planet. Makes you think...and to me, it's more intuitive...when the sun is more active, we get warmer. They also talked about cosmic rays from the sun...apparently comsic rays are directly linked to cloud formation. When the concentrations of rays are high, more clouds form and vice versa. When there is lots of could cover, it reflects heat back out into space, causing a cooling effect on the earth. Here's a graph showing cosmic ray activity and temperatures..... It also talks about Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth and how the entire theroy is dependent on levels of CO2 in the atmosphere. Al says that it's complicated, but that the trend is there. This program points out a key flaw in the theory...one of those "complications" that were left out of the movie. Here's a quick graph comparing the sun activity and temps, as well as CO2 levels and temps....decide which one seems right.... Anyhow, I'm not saying who is right and wrong, just pointing out what this particular show was focussing on. Its interesting that most of the scientists are from the US and Canada too. If anyone knows about these solar factors and knows that they are incorrect, please post! We should see all sides of this issue.

Umm...he said "All the comforts of home"...I dunno what your bathroom is like, but mines a lot nicer than that...LOL

Here is a video I shot of a large thunderstorm from last summer. It was the one that spawned a bunch of tornadoes in southern ontario. A meterologist and tornado chaser commented on my video and said that at the 22 second mark, you could see a tornado starting....I'm not so sure, but decide for yourself.... <BR><BR> To see all the comments, double click on the video below.... <BR><BR> <object width="320" height="240"><param name="movie" value=" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HweRNWoJLg0"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HweRNWoJLg0"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HweRNWoJLg0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="320" height="240"></embed></object> <BR><BR>

Vance....we are so sorry to hear about your loss. Our condolences go out to you and your family.... Cliff and Carole -
What I cant figure out was where all those people in the 70s and early 80s went saying we were headed for the next ice age? Hmmmmmmmmmm...............

. Pam...I know your pain...LOL. I am obviously Asian...of Japanese decent to be exact. I get people coming up to me speaking Chinese, Japanese, Korean etc.... I just look at them and ask if they speak English. You see.....I'm 4th generation Canadian...my family first immigrated here in the late 1800's. The language was lost a few generations ago. My friends joke that I am more Canadian than they are, because most of their parents immigrated to Canada from Europe in the 60's. My mother speaks Japanese, but she learned out of interest...went to school to learn it. The style she learned was "proper" and not "conversational". Much like how we learned French. So when true Japanese people speak to her, she has a hard time understanding them.

Very nice report! I went ice fishing a grand total of 2 times and was skunked! Good to see others having success. -
Sounded like a great weekend despite the fishing! At least it was mild enough that you didn't have to freeze off fingers and toes! Your boat looks awesome...makes me want the warm weather even more. I'm jealous of anyone with a boat....maybe in a few years I can afford one. Thanks for the detailed report...it was a great read.

Great read! Thanks for posting the link...very interesting....wouldn't want to meet up with most of those monsters!

Welcome to the site! I'm sure you'll love it here. I'm looking forward to seeing some of those monster eyes you'll pull from the BOQ!

Awesome!! Glad to see you got out again and had some success! I dont like winter fishing that much, but I just cant stay away for that long until spring. I'm sure we'll be seeing TONS of reports from you once the softwater comes back!

There is an easy answer to that....anyone who catches them but me!!! LOL. Trust me...I'm still a newbie...I know a lot of the theory, but I dont have the experience that many others on this board have. Thanks for the comment...but I'm no teacher!!!

Well, I decided to take the day off work today to do some fishing! I spent about a half hour last night tying roe bags in anticipation!! With the temps above freezing, I couldn't resist the urge with the thought of fishing without a million layers of clothes and frozen fingertips. So...I brushed up on everything CANADIAN COPPER has taught me in the two times we've fished together. I headed out to my spot before sunrise...and had my line in the water by 7:15am...about a half hour before the sun rose. Water had a greenish tinge and there was about 6 to 8" of visibility. It was a balmy +1C with a light west wind....this was heaven compared to the last few times out! (-18 and -25 with the windchill!!). I started out using the roe bags at a bunch of different depths...and didn't even get a sniff for about 2 hours! I then said to myself "What would CC do???". He said that if roe isn't working, then change up your presentation...so that's what I did. I put a little pink worm on and within about 10 minutes my float went under!!! Adrenaline flowed through my body and I set the hook!! The float and hook sailed out of the water and landed behind me....LOL. About a half hour later, my float went down again!! Missed it...dang!!! I told myself I was leaving at 11am if I caught one or not. At 10:45, my float went under. I set the hook and there was tension!! WOO HOO!!! I started fighting the fish and it jumped about a foot and a half out of the water....then....no tension. DANG AGAIN!! I began to reel in as fast as I could in case it was running towards me. Sure enough, it came out of the water again! This time I had a handle on it. I called over a guy beside me to see if he'd net it and he obliged. I'm glad he was there...I probably would have lost it. Well...here's the pic...a new PB...25.5" long and 5lbs 12oz. Still on the small side, but it's only my third steelhead. Chalk up an entry for team 6 in the OFC tourney! I have another pic with a tape measure, but didn't post it here...sent that one to my team captain.

Spring cant come soon enough. We are definitely getting a taste of it now and for the next 4 or 5 days! I know we haven't seen the last of snow, but winter's days are numbered!! Dreaming of warm days on the open water......ahhh...that's better!! LOL.
-
Bill...great report! I still have never caught anything thru the ice...oh well, there's always next year...looks like i wont get out on the ice again any time soon. That was a cool shot down the hole too! Thanks for takin the time to report!
