Never hear about that calculation before, I'd agree its probably sage advice but my guess is most people are spending far more than 33% of their gross income on a car. Over course most are financing over 5+ years. As for leasing, I did it briefly after graduating and starting my first job. I needed a reliable set of wheels to get to work and did not have a substantial amount of cash in the bank. With bank loans running over 5% I looked at new cars, with my only real expenses being rent and student loan payments I figured out I could afford around $280 per month for car expenses (insurance not included). At the time I was able to lease a nissan at around 1.5% or buy at 2.5% if I remember correctly. So I leased, it worked out well as I was well under the kilometers and even oil changes were included for free as part of a promotion and that vehicle never cost me any extra. When I became we (married) we went down to 1 car for a period and were able to transfer the lease before the term was up at no cost as the low kms made it attractive. Would I lease again? Probably not, would prefer to buy used and in cash but depending on one's situation and the interest rates involved a lease could be a viable option and is definitely worth exploring.

That will be a special night, I was behind the net the night Sundin scored his 500th career goal. It was amazing, not only was it his 500th goal, it was the OT winner and his 3rd of the game. So season ticket holders, I assume this is not just Detroit get first crack at the winter classic? I better but my request into the old man to see what he can do.

I am in agreement with Solo on this, there have been many advancements in fly lines and a Weight forward line is definitely the way to go. Based on what he is planning to pursue (Bass, Pike, and Musky) we are talking big wind resistant flies which do not require much finesse. As for floating vs. sinking, its probably best to have a floating line and use sinking leaders as suggested it gives you that versatility. If you can afford an extra spool or set up obviously a sinking line would be valuable. In terms of the rod, I have a st.croix rio switch rod that I just absolutely love. One other suggestion since you are new it would be best to visit a fly shop to have your reel loaded with the fly line and backing.

Just amazing, you could probably put a book together or something.

I have seen that documentary it is very well done. I really enjoy that series on PBS

I like merrell's but have found they don't take a beating as well as they use too. I have some Keen winter boots and they seem solid after a couple years. Not exactly hiking boots but I did just get a pair of bogs at christmas and they are great for a high, warm, fully waterproof boot.

hey Snidley you make some interesting points and yes that is the same documentary.

Back Lakes this spring for Brookies/Splake/Bows
torco replied to Rustic-Fisher's topic in General Discussion
I wish I could be in I love springs trips to back lakes and places like Algonquin. But the new baby arrives in April and then year end is May. The only draw back of this job is that the end of April and May are almost a write off for getting time off to go fishing. I might be able to slip a day in on the weekend but not enough to get outside of the general area. -
Yes they make money off you but at the same time provide you with a better return for your money. As long as you are satisfied with the service then you as the customer are happy, why go to a big bank for simple transactions and get less? Big banks have made oodles through service charges and reductions in services (staff), really can't stand paying service fees if I already know they are making money off of lending my money. Anyways I am happy with online bank and really see no need to ever go into the bank on any sort of semi regular basis. I have to ask do you work for one of the big banks?

Agreed its a small window but I my point is that seems to be more the issue than whats good for fish when you read peoples posts.

It has been proven time again that removing/reducing barriers along rivers is one of the best way to help with improving spawning rates for salmon and trout. I watched a very interesing documentary on it where on west coast river they were trying to stock back the levels of salmon for 20+ years and had limited success but once they removed several dams the results were almost immediate within a few years the number of salmon returning had increased dramatically. I realize I am sketchy with the details but the science is there as for the brown trout, I am not sure I buy that having steelhead and salmon migrate up the river will have a major negative impact on the fish but I realize the concern is more about the kinds of people that it may attract. Anyways it worth the study in my opinion, the great lakes are already one giant experiment at this point

Its so true that $100 covers a little over 2 days worth of daycare. Of course if you make less there is a supplement. As for your renovations do you make income off your property? Ie rent part of it out or operate a home business?. If you do there is a potential to reduce your tax burden on the income you earned from those kinds of things from the renovations.

No fee banking has been around for so long now I am still surprised people pay fees for regular banking transactions. I have been with PC financial for everyday banking for about 10 years now and it is great.

Hey, I am heading up with my brother inlaw and some guys for an ice fishing weekend on Kennebec Lake near Arden so I was just curious about ice conditions out that way since we have some warm weather and rain coming tomorrow. Any info would be appreciated really hoping it is good and thick so we can still do the weekend. Thanks all, Mark

Thats pretty impressive, love the passion you have to get out in this cold weather.

Belwood is a little further from Guelph although I am not sure how good the huts are. I like Uncle Bucks idea on the pedicures you'll probably have more fun without them as bad as that may sound. After all you are going to be a small room with 2 ladies, that sounds like more conversation than one probably wants when fishing Obviously I am generalizing so it will depend on the girls involved, hope you have a good time.

Florida is ripe for the picking I think, probably really overachieved early in the season but you are right it is going to be tough when you need to score 4 goals to win a hockey game.

Thanks Solo, you have articulated everything I have read in a meaningful way which was much more helpful than my original post. I have yet to execute the theory too smoothly into practice yet but its good to know it will eventually click as you say. Its definitely the mending that is tough.

Gary Loomis talks about the IM ratings on fishing rods
torco replied to Garry2Rs's topic in General Discussion
Good read thanks for that, helped me immensely and shows me why some my old rods which are cheaper are able to take so much abuse bushwacking and back country camping and am glad that my more expensive rods are stored away safely when not used. -
hey I am new at fly fishing steelhead still have not caught one on the fly, went out a few times in the fall with no success but I use to float fish for them and dead drifting a nymph along bottom is an effective presentation. As for leader length thats tricky and my guess is it will depend on depth and clarity. I would say you would want at least 9 feet and probably more. Here is a great link for some videos put together by some of the guys at fly fish ontario. http://www.flyfishontario.ca/fly-fishing-methods/targeting-specific-species/great-lakes-steelhead-primer.html

I just recently opened one for our daughter. They are a great tool for saving for your sons future education. There are alot of options and places out there to invest your money. You should definitely do your research before selecting your plan or investment strategy as some can be more restrictive or provide less than reasonable returns after fees. This guy has a lot of good advice for setting an RESP for the first time. http://www.moneysmartsblog.com/ I ended up using an RBC mutual fund for now as I build up the investment, eventually I will go self directed so I can reduce Management Fees. I stayed away from the pooled plans for the following reasons: tend to have high fees, strict contribution schedules, high penalties if you ever want to switch out later. That said they are easy and can provide a reasonable rate of return.

hey nomad I just looked at your website looks like you do some pretty cool trips. I bookmarked for any future plans I may have with a guide.
