We arrived back from our amazing trip to QC. Fishing was a little tough, but we caught enough for a couple of fish fries and a few to take home.. Love fishing the stained water, which is a far cry from the clear waters of southern Ontario. Great hosts at Mike's Outfitter. My buddy had the extra bonus of bringing home some bear meat from one of the hunters ending his trip on the weekend we arrived.

Heading to Quebec tomorrow for a five day trip. We have been going for a few years now, joining another group that has going for 18 years. It's so nice to be on a lake where I can actually catch a walleye.

Who designates an area as a fish sanctuaries?

Could be someone saw people fishing for bass out of season and tried to take matters into his own hands. Just another way to look at it. Ignore the sign once bass season is open. -
It's not even a game fish we're talking about. Silly Liberal Government.

You can always give the spot on the charter to me. LOL

There are some real wackos out there. The comments in support of the ban are quite funny. They really are stupid and I don't use that word lightly.

The Bolts had nothing left. What warriors!

It seems to be the same everywhere you can fish from shore. I checked a few places out over the years down in Florida and it is worse there. What good are laws if they are never enforced. Local by-law officers should sit there without uniforms and had out tickets every weekend. It would be quite the haul.

Manitoubass2 hit it right on. Too many people would abuse the rule and fake an injured illegal fish to keep it. It tough to waste a fish, but tougher to pay a hefty fine.

Better than I did! I caught a small one about 20-24" in the first 15 minutes and never had another bite. That 49" is a real beauty!

I was cursing and swearing at them after they blew the lead. They must have heard me. LOL That was a great comeback with clutch hitting.

Rice Lake used to be the lake to go to for panfish, everyone thought it was endless. Your post proves that over harvesting can effect the population. There is never an endless supply.

Always like a good knife! You're lucky to have your dad around to enjoy these trips. Cherish them.

I only brought it up to appease the huggers. That way they wouldn't have anything to cry about. Maybe they could start up a donation box amongst themselves if they are so passionate about saving the bears.

OFAH didn't really have any impact when the spring hunt was being cancelled, I doubt they have any pull with this type of situation. Communities that are having bear problems should be investing in live bear traps, just like they would invest in lawn mowers, trucks, and the like.

People get in an uproar over the craziest things. Where is this passion when things are happening to human beings or the government keeps reaching into our pockets. I know it's a different situation but really.......if they didn't shoot it, then it attacked a kid, they would get heat for not killing it.

Time to shut the MNR down. Unfortunately many people that don't have any experience with wild animals will make the wrong decision.

I have been fishing for them for so long and the largest was a 48"er out of Pigeon Lake, so it didn't have much weight to it either. I have seen some over 50" while fishing but never lucky enough to hook up with one. I love the stories of the first time muskie anglers boating one over 50" on their first trip. Argh!

Unfortunately I believe there are some that would definitely abuse the opportunity if they were open pre-spawn and it would definitely have a negative impact on the populations in smaller lakes.

Trust your wife's instincts and then do what you have to. Most women I know are usually right on the mark with their gut feelings. Face to face is a tough thing to do, but like someone else mentioned, you can get your own read about the situations and his responses. Could be a lonely guy that can relate better to women (he lives with his mother at 45) or a creep like your wife feels. I have had neighbours in the past that seem to show up when my wife is out gardening and then proceed to waste an hour of her time talking about nothing important. All innocent, but boy can it be annoying. She has learned how to deal with them, which is more powerful than me talking to the guy. Yes, I keep my eyes and ears open.

Weather doesn't matter if the fish are biting! Good on you for hanging in there.

I would actually love to see the picture of Mr. Martin's work. I haven't heard that name in a very long time. It could very well be a tiger, we can't know until there is some kind of debate.

I lost my brother in law in that storm. It was tough to get into the city that night after receiving the call from family. My wife and I were north of Bobcaygeon when we got the news. It looked like a military zone that night and the next day (bluebird skies) showed the devastation. Dave was working with his father on Morrow Street and their shop was lifted and sent across the street into another factory. Dave ended up there, but my father in law got stuck in the shop and survived. There was a loss of life, but I was definitely surprised that more were not killed after seeing the level of destruction. That factory had everyone sent home early because the power went out. Can't imagine how many would have been killed if the employees were still working. RIP to all those that were lost in that storm.

I agree with whoever said you can't use a mount to distinguish between a muskie and a tiger. Fins can be trimmed incorrectly and the fish can be painted in any pattern. ( I have also won awards at taxidermy shows) Scugog muskie are definitely more heavily barred than the other lakes, giving people the impression that they are a tiger. Someone would have had to put the pike into Scugog if there are any. Sturgeon would have to be full of them before any reached Scugog and moved upstream through the lock system. This rumour has been going around for quite some time. Time enough for a decent population to be established to confirm their existence.

I was just reading this post and one of those buggers just landed on my arm in my main street office. Crazy this year!
