  1. I have a 2000 Polaris Magnum 325, and the previous owner did not baby it, lol. It has a low range, and works fabulously. It has a variable transmission drive belt system, but with a driveshavt to the rear and front, and a manual shifter. Pretty bare bones really, only a couple of indicator lights to tell you if you are in neutral or not. Only goes about 70 kmh flat out, but I don't need to go any faster. My bud bought a 2006 Yamaha Bruin and its works equally as well, but I have more control with the low range in certain situations. You will find pros and cons with all manufacturers, as well as differing opinions from people who have used them successfully or not. Mine is mainly for use in spring, summer, fall, and early ice. Then the snowmobile comes out to play and the ATV is stowed. Too much snow is hard on mine, the larger cc ones might have less trouble in deeper snow. I have not tested it to the extreme though, I use it as a tool to get into where I want to go, not for sport riding. I will avoid sketchy looking spots, haven't had to use the winch yet. Mine is perfect for what I need it for.
  2. Is this a new episode, cause I saw a program with him and his wife and child living off the land in a homemade cabin for a year.
  3. Killbear provincial park for me, summer of '76. Actually, that is when I caught my first ever smallmouth, didn't fish for them up here when I was a teenager. Also caught my one and only sunfish, and my first ever WGSF. They were indeed tasty.

    Snowmobiles

IF I could afford it, I would buy a Bombardier Skandic SWT 550F. But, there is no negotiating prices on these things up here, you want it, pay for it. Presently own a 1990 Yamaha Enticer ET400T. Been an excellent sled, little maintenance, but does not like slush one bit. OK, it does like slush, it likes to wallow down in it and park its heavy butt in it for the duration, lol. Have to shovel it's 500 lbs. out. But, its old school compared to sled's nowadays. It has no suspension to speak of, and you cannot put a deeper lugged track on it. But, it can tow anything, anywhere. My bud, just over a year ago, bought a Polaris Indy Light 340 2 up, with a very nice suspension. It tows the gear just a good as my sled, and has enough suspension, track lug thickness, and muscle to power itself out of some very deep slush. Even with his dad on the back seat. The one thing I do not like about sleds nowadays is the trailing arm suspensions. Not that it is not a good thing for handling, but I use mine for moose hunting also, and I can take off through a cut, or bush, and not worry about smacking that type of suspension on a stump under the snow. He has to be very careful where he drives his. He and I were on a moose hunt last year, and he ran over a chopped off log, only about 18" long, I was right behind him. His a-arm got bent up going over it, I hit it also, but with my old leaf spring suspension on the front end, no worries. I hit the same darned log. No damage. T'all depends on what you are going to use the sled for, in the price range you mentioned, you can find a lot of nice sleds from the different manufacturers. Up here, if we are going fishing, we do not need to buy a trail pass for using the OFSC trails going into fishing spots. Generally, those trails are traditional access routes into lakes, which the OFSC incorporated into their trail system. Yes, you do have to have insurance on your sled, unless you use it exclusively on your own property. Licensing, yes, you get a sticker to put on each side of the sled, and up here, you can have it done for 2 years, or annually. OFSC trail use a lot, buy the pass. It pays for the trail groomers, which cost about $250,000 per. I will use my ATV in the early season, before the snow load gets too bad, but once it is over a foot or more, snowmobiles are the ticket.
  5. I have owned a few, tasco and bushnell, over the years. Pocket binoculars for hunting and fishing. 8x25 mostly, but have a pair of 10x25 now. Also own a full sized pair 10x50. With the 10x50's, you need to find a good rest for them. With the higher magnification, you need a good steady rest to view anything clearly without a lot of shaking. Any movement will be a problem. The bushnell and tasco's can be cheap, but if you get the chance to put them against a higher priced pair of same brand or another, you will see an incredible difference in clarity. Multiple coated optics are sooo much nicer than the cheaper ones. Mine work just fine for what I use them for.
  6. Its called a pulk, and it works great. You buy any kids sled you like that fits your need, add some stainless cleats or hoops for tie downs, and a couple of tie points to the front on each side. Buy two six foot pvc pipes, one inch I.D. Run some good rope through it, and put stainless clips on them on each end. Makes for easy disconnecting of the pulk. Make a harness for your body of some sort, or if your pack already has the D rings, then you are good to go. CROSS the pvc pipes when hooking them to your waist or pack, so that the pulk stays centred going around corners. The reason for the pvc pipe, as you mentioned, is so that the pulk does not run you over going downhill, lol. And be sure to use some ski poles when trekking with it , need them for going uphill, and downhill control. Do a search for pulks on google, lots of good info to be found.
  7. I agree fishdawg, CTC only carries jiffy. They did have eskimo at one time, but not now. Strikemasters should be available at other specialty tackle stores. Too bad my jiffy is basically brand new, I would buy the 4 stroke if it weren't for that. I have a feeling more of the few major manufacturers of augers will be offering 4 strokes really soon.
  8. LOL, maybe he will be in a nice new boat with all the bells and whistles(sirens and lights), you guys down there might have to keep an eye out,. Congrats FishnNAutographs. p.s. if you do end up on the boat, slap an OFC sticker on it, lol.
  9. You're EVIL, EVIL I say............... There had better be a report soon, or otherwise..........................
  10. Wayne, or Irishfield as he is known on the board. Don't know how far west he is of the places you mentioned(he is in Penetanguishen), but for aluminum, he can do it.
  11. Awright, enough of the cryptic stuff, who is your hubby??
  12. This was mentioned a few months ago, and a lot of people here have read his book. PBS is running their pledge drive right now, and showing this video.
  13. Yeah, finally, lol. That is a nice fish, and the brookie wasn't too shabby either.
  14. But, its true, heard the sound link, checked in, and saw you had entered, then left. Sorry.
  15. Yup, when "you" enter the chat room, you get a sound response, but when others enter, nothing is heard, thats how I missed you. But also, when people leave, I can hear it, thats when I noticed that you had entered, and left, the chat room. I heard your exit.

    Old Pm's?

I downloaded all of mine earlier today, no problem. Now, my bookmarks, that's another issue, lol.
  18. the thing about the chat room now, is that when someone enters it, you don't know unless you check every minute. It used to be, that when someone entered, and you had your sound up, you would get a sound message saying someone has entered the room. That does not happen now with the new chat room, so I missed you by about 1 minute nautifish. Stay there for a bit, to see who shows up, you may be amazed. AND, for a long time now, 2 yrs anyways, tuesday nights around 8:30 pm, is a general meeting time for a bunch of us "irregulars" lol.
  19. ya ddn't wait long enough for me to get back nautfish, 2 of us are havin a yak right now
  20. LOL..........BUUURRRNNN!!!!
  21. Don't know if all of them have it, but my old Eagle AccuNav Sport GPS had a plot trail on it. Saved our butts a few years back. Launched out of Grand Portage on the west shore of superior. Shallow bay, with an island in the middle before hitting the open lake. Got out there to be greeted by 6 ft. rollers. Tried to downrig, but it was a no go really. Then the fog came inshore. We just followed the plot trail back in, and finally saw land about 100 metres before reaching the launch, and it took us a good 45 minutes to go back in, but only 10 min. to get out originally. Man, its such a wierd feeling to be surrounded by fog without any shoreline visible.
  22. No problems here, but I have a hard time believing the 2nd poll, 2nd choice, lol.
  23. Geez setomonkey, shut the darned cell phone off, you are supposed to be having fun. I do carry mine with me on fishing and hunting trips myself, and in my area, its not always able to reach a cell tower. but I do not turn it on unless I need absolute help. So far, that has never happened.
  24. Type what you can Tracker, we can be very accomodating. do you actually want me there douG???? lol
