  1. Ice fishing them can be done. Should hook up next winter.
  2. Headed down to camp out on my fav swim today. River's high and muddy but they are tight against the banks, lost two 10+ after work the last two days, caught an OOS brown on spicy corn. Today's the day for the bugles, I hope! Anyone else been taking advantage of the warm front? Open water feels gooooooooood!!!!
  3. I cant plan anything that far ahead. All my fishing trips are on a whim. I wouldn't have it any other way!
  4. Lol, I always see those pics and assume they just stuck the lure in there after catching it on something else. This fish inhaled the spoon, so the lure shot would have been somewhat gruesome, lmao Thanks everyone!
  5. I am perhaps your proudest Whure TJ! Jigging the DNL clown colored jigging spoon yesterday evening, it didn't really even take that long and I was into what I wanted all ice season. This is a cell shot and the fish was released, but make no mistake it was a huge crappie! A lot of bending and flexing on the tape put it at 17" but I'm happy with an 'official' measurement of 16.5" Awesome. I have never had a crappie fight like this. I thought for sure I had a 25" pike on the line.
  6. Sometimes it's the toughest thing for any of us to admit: There are more important things than fishing. Good luck this weekend, though like you said.. bright side, you haven't been out in so long even the slowest of days will be relieving and rewarding!
  7. I went out one morning before work for 4 hrs in June, on a Tuesday I think, and caught silvers like ive never caught them before. Anything silver in the flow, fish on before you could turn your bail over. All small ones of course but we picked out about 30 keepers to bring home and released triple that. Never got into silvers before or after that one magic morning. Every other trip out there was pretty well a washout this season. Lots of drum & rockies to play with, some tiny smallies.. hit some jumbo perch further out into 30fow a couple times in the summer too.
  8. On the bright side - though the silvers may have generally gone down in size, its exactly what Ryan said. Consistent action. Drum, wee smallies (the odd pig) , rockies, perch, and the whities are the most common catches. Anything is possible though, in 20 years I've seen giants of every species come out of there at random. Most notably my dad got a 53" musky there when I was 16, in november. What a fish, I'll never forget that.
  9. When I was 14-18 on my dad's bass boat we used to get fish around 15-17" as an average. As years went on, the average size got smaller. Just like LMB and SMB on the inner bay, too many keeping genetically large fish from the pod. There are still big roamers once in a while but these fish travel a long distance following pods of bait to get there. The residents are much, much smaller. I fish the outflow once a month during open water and have for 20 years now. Look for a steel camo boat and a loud, cocky dude .. thats me, lol
  10. The outflow aint what it used to be. Some silvers left for sure, nothing close to what used to run in there. Fishing pressure ruined it like anything else down here. Too many meat hunters. Enjoy catching 8" silvers, if you luck out and can find a spot to anchor your boat.
  11. Piff, I did it with a gar!
  12. It's good people have these GoPro cams to document their slip into insanity.
  13. If you're gonna go with entry level gear, go with shimano. I had a Crestfire ($80) for 7 years. Worth every cent. I'd still be using it I:m sure but my own mistake broke the seat off the reel.
  14. I had a cabelas one, it lasted a season. I bought a "0 degrees Celcius" from walmart on blowout next season, been running strong for four seasons now!
  15. My android takes better pics than an iphone, but.. i still prefer a real camera. I use it a lot less nowadays though.
  16. Im good watching thos repeats over big bang theory, storage wars and all its variations and duck dynasty repeats on every other station!!
  17. Poor me, I paid for it all along
  18. Something I was always wondering, as Erie is considered the shallowest and warmest of the great lakes, and Ontario one of the deepest and coldest.
  19. Swiffer handle + zip ties
  20. Aren't you supposed to cut the line if you hook one anyway through the ice? Sounds like all went well!
  21. Oh thats relevent information about your opinion. Thnx
  22. I hear ya. I was sitting on lake erie perch all day yesterday. First time in my life i've caught bass, crappie, warmouth and rock bass from the bay. Brought home 5 keeper perch out of 10,000 jumbos seen. Lol
  23. I was wondering who was the authority on that. Obviously it's you. Everyone else just has an opinion, but you straight up set it right there as fact. I agree, its not a sport. Its not a bunch of immature, overpaid, brainless and skill free kids that never grew up chasing balls and pucks around like idiots.
  24. Anyone had luck, or should I say any better luck, ice fishing for bluegills, perch or pike at night through the ice. It seems they completely shut down where I fish. Just wondering if anyone else has done well doing it? Reason I ask is I work mostly days so to go out after work usually involves a few hours of night fishing. Besides 'blind lucking' into some pods of feeding crappies, I've never caught much else in or near usual good daytime spots.
