  1. old-mill-speck.jpg , guessing it's the Humber River. Back in the 80's we'd get those Laker backcross Splake a crazy distance up the Bighead in the fall, caught them at the 13th concession which was the end of the fall extended season water, whoda thunk.
  2. About ten years ago there was a lake run Brookie that caught several years running in the Credit River fish lifting operation at the Streetsville dam, maybe it is one of his progeny. Cool . edit: here's a couple of pics of the one that got lifted at Streetville back in 2008 and again in 2009 2nd pic, who know's a few more sightings and they will rival the Atlantic run
  3. Here's a stickie from another group I belong too. You can hacksaw the terminals off if you want but nothing further. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?138362-Why-Car-Batteries-Are-Dangerous
  4. It was a family owned business that was quite successful for many years. Many started small , I recall the Columbia catalog over 30 years ago was a half dozen pages of fishing vests and the back was their quad parka, none of the yuppie crap. Also growing up near Welland, the now furniture giant Leons was a single family owned store and I believe the family still controls the empire. Seems you are only allowed to get successful to a certain point.
  5. Lean ground beef $2.98 a pound at Real Canadian Superstore
  6. Fishing tackle I always bought locally, but for some reloading components I'd make the trip if I couldn't find what I needed at the local gun shows or the few remaining gun shops. I did buy a bunch of salmon stuff when the "Outdoors Stores " closed shop in the early 80's. Collegiate Sports bought them out and promptly liquidated the firearms, got me a nice 06 Ruger 77 for real cheap.
  7. seen it on a few of my firearms sites as well, seems to be true from what a few employees have been told, shut down by Christmas.
  8. TSC advertises them Cliff You're in luck, 30 bucks off the original 100 cfm Eco Fan in this weeks flyer, $69.99 on sale.
  9. How much refinishing products do you have?????? build a small box to house them and put a light bulb in it. Why heat the entire garage. or something like this http://www.midwayusa.com/product/1138614184/goldenrod-gunsaver-dehumidifier-rod-110v
  10. Could hear the waves crashing onshore when I let the dogs out before bed, still hear them this morning, south shore is going to be muddy.

  11. Roofers and plumbers may be a source of lead especially in older neighbourhoods, also if you known anyone doing stained glass windows as a business or hobby they may have some scrap.
  12. I see the new TSC flyer starting today , they have the Champion 338cc 5500/6500W generator on sale, save $400 bucks off the 999.99 price, this week only $599.99.
  13. Must be fishing the north shore, I don't see any greasers in your total. Good going if you not including 1 pound shaker Chinnies . Want bows and cohos you need to hit 300 plus depths
  14. You are right about the late big Cohos, Still have the visions of a huge rosy sided buck Coho coming out of the water on hookset at the clay banks at Erindale one December morning with ice forming on the shore. About the same time , mid 80's, a 50 fish day the weekend after opener on the Ganny, somewhere up around Canton on a hydro rightaway, pool might have had 2 -300 dropbacks above a logjam waiting for a rain to get back to the lake, they were voracious.
  15. Think they have got bigger in your friends memories, pike spearing was a spring ritual in my teens/1960s and never knew there to be any monsters from the Grand or Welland River, there was the occasional good sized one in a ditch off Gravelly Bay at Port Colborne running from the clay pits. Huge is my books is 20 pound class, good size is 3 footers in the 9-12 pound class, most were 24 to 30 inches.
  16. A little outside the box perhaps, but one of my favourites is an old G. Loomis 10 1/2 foot 10 wt. fly rod blank that I built up as a spinning rod years ago. I built it to replace a Fenwick HMG 1262 steelhead rod that got stolen at Queenston one day. I'd be looking for anything in the 10 1/2 foot range with some backbone to it, maybe something recommended for 8 to 12 lb test line and 1/4 to 5/8 oz lures, of course most might prefer something a little heavier.
  17. Sounds good to me. I got into the game back when it was a Coho fishery in the seventies, I believe the first real decent run of Chinook was the fall of 82. Coho are far better on the table and an infinitely better sport fish when they hit the creeks in the fall for those that like that sort of thing. Browns are available shorecasting here from ice out into June and than again from now to winter both along the shore and in the creeks providing opportunities for the angler without a boat, like me now. Only the stocking levels of Chinook are being dropped in response to the alewife situation, makes sense.
  18. thanks for the tip on the UK Turks add on
  19. Springtime, get a season's pass from Foran's here in Grimsby, spring fishing is better. Summer when your fishing offshore, 7/8 miles offshore of Bronte is the same patch of water as 7/8 miles offshore Grimsby/Fifty Point. No gates but parking is limited.
  20. Now that the summer is over and the derby is done they have reduced the hours, off season.
  21. What do you want to bet that the bird watcher that posted this has their P3TA membership up to date and maybe a few tax receipts for donations stuffed away till tax time. They feel that sport fishing, especially the "catch and release " variety is barbaric and should be banned, fishing for the table has some merit in their eyes, just some one pushing their own agenda, I have to check it out for next weekend, what kind of fish are in there?
  22. R.I.P Jimi Hendrix, Sept 18th, 1970
  23. My wife is up to season 17 on this one, very believable , a BBC production, not a glitzy N.A. star studded production .Wish I had started watching from the start. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115355/
  24. Did you see the fans had a homemade poster with his name and picture on it titled " World's Worst Team Mate " and he went over and signed it and had a laugh? Great finish, to get the field goal with time out on the clock.
  25. Those Wels catfish are huge
