  1. I bought a Lowrance 1510B paper graph from them , '80 or 81, they actually were on Stavebank for a few years before they moved to Lakeshore.
  2. Same here, the Wednesday game you missed the first period or so due to regular programming.
  3. The Crappie I caught in my youth, 50's and 60's, were as I recall all White Crappie. I don't recall Black Crappie till I lived in Port Rowan 1973 to 75 and fished the Inner Bay at Long Point and they soon became my favourite table fare.
  4. I worked for the MNR back in the early 70's, out of the Simcoe Ontario Office, they had to routinely deal with Kingfishers and Herons at the Normandale Fish Hatchery. Farmers deal with a lot of wildlife but that falls under the three S's Rule ?
  5. Yes, listed under families not protected federally , no different than crows and starlings if the province chooses to remove their protection. https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/migratory-birds-legal-protection/convention-act.html
  6. I would expect that stretch would produce more browns than salmon at that time of year.
  7. My crockpot died last fall, I replaced it with a 3 quart Instant pot as we are retired and just my wife and I. We now have a 6 quart and a 8 quart instant pot as well and I bundled up the rice maker and steamer and gave them to my stepdaughter. They have become indispensable in the kitchen for everything from hard boiled eggs to spareribs and corn on the cob.
  8. WGSF, World's Greatest Sport Fish , aka Rock Bass . They used to go by that on this board in years past
  9. Given the choice of Black Crappie or Rock Bass as an invasive species in a lake, I'd rather the Crappie, we had WGSF's get into a Haliburton smallie lake years ago, fishing was never as good. At least Crappie are tastey.
  10. As a kid 50 years ago we would sometimes get the diminutive Grass Pickerel in the Welland River, they are a true pickerel but top out at about 10 inches or so in length. Back when the MNR was called the Dept of Lands and Forests, Yellow Pickerel was the name used in the fishing regs with dore , walleyed pike and just walleye listed as other common names. Walleye was actually a name picked by a group of Biologists in the 30's to avoid confusion with true pickerel.
  11. Even with a very intense data set, 1 foot contour intervals are essentially a guessimation limited by the experience of the cartographer or today probably the model that a computer program uses.
  12. Unless you are actually building a hull with plywood you are wasting money buying marine plywood for things like floor or transom replacement, the difference is in the quality of the veneers not longevity. Even then there is quite a bit of difference in various so called marine plywoods. https://www.woodenboat.com/marine-plywood
  13. I've fished smallies out of Port Colborne since the late 50's , the population has always been excellent except for the late 60's/70's when water quality was especially bad. It is not so much a population increase IMHO but a big increase in size. A shortage of gobies would only result in a decrease in size not a population crash, I would think.
  14. I remember dad and I entered a 2 day Bass Derby at Port Colborne , single big fish derby back mid 70's, he took 2nd with one that just barely cracked 4 pounds, like 4lbs. 1 oz., got a nice prize. Today, that fish and a twoonie will get you a Timmies.
  15. my bad, must be more than 1. I see red with things like residents have exclusive access and no fishing........https://www.lakelubbers.com/pinecrest-lake-1503/
  16. I googled the lake, if it is the one I found it is some deed restricted , gated community in ski country, uber rich folks I assume and they don't even allow fishing in their "Lake" . Probably released from some garden pond in the fall. Hope the goldfish breed rampantly with a large stinking die off every spring Yeah, maybe I am getting to be a grumpy old man.
  17. The worst thing they did was get rid of the bench seat in the front of pickups, slept on that bench quite a few times steelheading and duck hunting and pickups had 2 doors and eight foot boxes.
  18. Dad was a very good tournament caster in the late 40's , both fly and baitcasting accuracy. I learned to cast very early in life with silk fly lines and old Shakespeare/Inglis or Langley direct drive knuckle buster bait casters. Lots of casting skish in the backyard.
  19. If your really old you put Mucilin on your silk fly lines and gut leaders ?
  20. Makes no sense to me, it ties the vehicle up , a separate tent frees up the vehicle and is probably roomier.
  21. Forty Creek Distillery is nearby ?
  22. Welcome, looks like a fun day .
  23. I swap the crocs for duck shoes for taking out the trash and letting the dogs out in winter.
