I just did one on the long weekend with my son and friend and his son for their first tenting trip. We weren't sure how they would take to it so we found a camp rsort with amenities, we stayed at Golden Beach on Rice Lake. They have all the extras there in case he gets bored on the water, and have good boat rentals if you need one. Plenty of Bass and panfish in Rice Lake, just drag a worm and you will do fine. Next one will be a little further north and more of a bush camping experience seeing as they reacted quite well to the tenting aspect.

I believe it is tresspassing/illegal to fish from the tracks. I haven't been there in years and it was never really enforced back then, I don't know how strongly they enforce it now.

I have used CORN mixed together with some MAPLE SYRUP, they go for it quite well but a little sticky on your hands.

Christie Lake outside Hamilton... Is it any good????
express168 replied to john_C's topic in General Discussion
I prefer Binbrook Conservation in the Hamilton area compared to Christies. Binbrook is technically under the management of the Niagara Conservation authority even though it is in the Hamilton area. No gas motors, but have caught some good numbers of crappie and some reasonable pike. -
See post titled Weeked Boat/Trailer Hell!

You got that right, I was that idiot that you hear about every long weekend on our roads and waterways ( and am not proud of it). More things went wrong in that one day then in all the years I owned the boat prior to my brother buying it. Next time a little more prep time and try to keep my senses about me when things are going wrong.

Great to hear, she definitely sounds like quite a fighter. Remember that love helps the healing process. -
So borrowed my old boat from my brother for a long weekend camping trip at Rice Lake with my 9 year old son, my friend and his 6 year old son for our first tenting trip together. Boat hell begins when at home testing the batteries I can't get the cranking battery to start the motor, clean up the terminals and that gets it going. We head up on Friday morning and get caught in the bumper to bumper traffic from Ajax to Bowmanville. We finally get moving and just before the Port Hope service center I hear BANG! I see rubber flying in my mirrors and the trailer drop and pull to one side! Luckily I am able to slow down and get off right into the service center, get out and see a shredded tire and a twisted up fender. Pretty scary, I have never experienced a blowout on a vehicle I was driving before. We get the tire off, muscle the fender back into shape somewhat and put on the spare. Of course why would I check the air pressure on the spare that has been on the trailer for 7 years? Practically flat, go over and fill it at the service station. Finally arrive after 4 1/2 hours, should have took about 2 1/2 hours. I leave my friend and kids to set up camp and go to launch and dock the boat, the launch is empty so no need to rush beautiful. I go to pull the boat of the trailer and it won't budge, I take a closer look and realize I still have the transom saver motor support attached. I pull it back out and realize how lucky I was, as I reach the back of the boat there is water pouring out the drain hole! Forgot the drain plug, I am a boating genius today! Well the rest of the weekend goes well except the wind/lightning/thunderstorm that rolled through Saturday night and nearly blew our tent and us across the campground! The trip home was uneventful, however as I finally unhitch the trailer in my driveway I notice that the tongue and coupler were actually twisted about half an inch when the blowout occured. Spent the last day straightening the tongue back out and replaced the coupler. I still need to get a new spare and rim for my brother. After all that my son still looks at me and says " Dad when can we go do that again, it was a lot of fun!" I love that kid and it just goes to show all they really want is to spend time with us, no matter what. Here are some pics from the weekend.

I would but everyone is closed tomorrow, I can get by with the 2 deep cycles and my battery charger for the 3 days but I would like to sort this out for my brother because he is letting me use the boat for no cost.

I have borrowed my brothers boat for this weekend ( used to be mine that I bought brand new but sold to him) to fish Rice Lake with my son, my friend and his son. I was getting the boat set up and installed the original Stowaway Battery for the motor and the deep cycle upfront and have an extra deep cycle. I went to crank the motor and I heard the initial beep but when I went to crank the motor nothing. I checked all the fuses, the kill switch, and put it on the charger and it reads full charge. So I tried it again and once again I heard the initial beep but it would not crank. So I put the extra deep cycle battery in the back instead of the Stowaway and it started the motor no problem, multiple times. I checked the Stowaway and it had some corrosion on the terminals so I cleaned the terminals with a scrub pad, but have not tried it again ( I will when I get to Rice) do you believe the corrosion could be the problem or do any of you have some other ideas. I am confused because it is showing a full charge on the charger but it is the original battery from 2004 could be done? Any suggestions would be appreciated, by the way it is a sealed battery no where to add water.

Sad situation, I read that the driver is suffering from paralisys right now. He may get a life sentence of some sort after all. A life is gone, children never getting to know their father, and a group of young teens that think they know it all about to learn consequences I hope. Sad for everyone all around.

Identifying the " Vancouver Terrorists"?
express168 replied to express168's topic in General Discussion
In the article it says he has been identified by people on Facebook, and he will be turning himself in. He has not been charged by the police and the police did not release his name so there is no violation of the Young Offenders Act. These damn social media sites, be careful kids they may come back and bite you some time. -
This is a shame, I am sorry but at 17 you know better. It looks like it will have a pretty negative impact on his immediate future. http://news.ca.msn.com/top-stories/vancouver-rioter-outed-as-elite-athlete-4

Yeah BRUINS! Thomas carried them and Luongo dropped the Canucks. I like Luongo personally, but his firepower upfront didn't put it in the net plain and simple. You cannot win without scoring.

That is funny, and you know what I wouldn't give it up for the world.

My in-laws bring fish back up from the U.S. all the time with no problems. Saltwater species from the around Rhode Island, can't see him having any trouble taking fish back over to the U.S,

Another thing that hasn't been mentioned is that I am assuming you will be there for 5 years and likely not staying in that area after graduation. After 5 years at 0 down if it is still available there will be basically 0 equity in the home after just 5 years even with market increases. When you go to sell it and pay the commissions, legal fees, and the like you are likely in a losing deal anyway. Rent or stay at the dorm, enjoy your University days they are a special time of life.

Thats amazing congratulations, and no matter what occured keep it up. Plenty who were turned down did extremely well afterwards as well, but I will keep my eye out and hope you got one to " bite"!!!

Thats great to have the old camera returned and good karma to give the camera to her. I am currently in Portugal with my in-laws showing the kids where thir grandparents came from. I can tell you these pictures are worth way more than the price of the camera.

Good work, we are trying to help my brother who is not doing well with the drink. He recently lost his job after 21 years, he had the problem before but has worsened with some deep depression. You should feel proud of yourself and enjoy the life you have now made for yourself, it is an incredible battle and true strength. P.S. don't forget to honour that lady by your side.
