No where near 6" where I was on Sturgeon the other day and with all that rain and mild temperatures we had for two days... I could see some open areas yesterday especially close to shore. Might be able to get out this weekend but we are still going to have to be very careful. I think I'd rather wait an extra week than do the polar bear plunge thing.

Been dealing with them for years, wonderful people, good selection, fair prices!

And a Very Happy New Year to you to Marc and a Happy Birthday too!
-
Then just go with Stihl or Husqvarna oils, they are both good quality!

Didn't go too far today but there is plenty of safe ice for about 100 yards out in front of my place but I didn't go any further, my sholder just won't take drilling too many holes. Guess I'm starting to feel my age LOL

Getting the most out of your sonar & GPS units
Big Cliff replied to SLA's topic in General Discussion
Well, when you get a branch up in the Kawarthas, let me know. Grimsby is just a little far for me to go for a meeting but I'd sure be interested if it was closer to home. -
I wouldn't run a synthetic on the first can of gas, they don't allow the engine to break in properly, run any good quality two stroke oil in that first tank then switch to a synthetic if you really want to but any good quality two stroke oil mixed to the Mfg. specifications will do the job just fine. Using a fuel stabilizer in your gas is cheap insurance. It is the first thing I do with every can of gas that comes to the house. As far as which gas to use; if the Mfg. recomends 87 octaine, use that. These engines are desigined to run with a specific octaine raiting, sure they will run on a higher octaine but they will run hotter. You want it to last a long time?

To you and all the other members, may 2012 be your best year so far!

assy = assembly it will be black plastic the spare parts box has a lid on it that just lifts open. Those snow blowers are shipped from the manufacturer with a couple of spare shear pins and two wrenches for changing them. let me know how you make out.
-
Let me know how you make out Steve, I may explore the ice in front of our place today but I will post because I'm not worried about offending anyone LOL. If you can't post about fishing on a fishing board, it's time to call it something else
-
Did you buy it new? Many snow blowers come with spare shear pins when you buy them. On your blower there is a small black plastic box between the engine and the discharge shute, it is right on top of the belt cover assy. and you will probably find spare pins in there. The part number you need is 188243 and that includes the pin and nut. Failing that, I have some here that will fit but don't use a hardened bolt in there, shear pins are desigined to let go before you cause damage to the gear box.

Well my friend, I have never asked for help on this board that I wasn't overwhelmed with the responses I got! Only seems fair to try to do what I can to help others as trivial as it might be!

Snug Harbour is on Sturgeon Lake just North of Lindsay off Hwy. 36. If you want to PM me your address, I'd be happy to check on things anytime I'm in the area.

Rapala cordless electric fillet knives?
Big Cliff replied to lookinforwalleye's topic in General Discussion
Now, I have been cleaning fish for better than 50 years and I do a pretty good job of it and don't waste any time! I have a knife that cost in excess of $100.00 and I love it. My mother-in-law bought it for me years ago. About two years ago CPH and I went crappie fishing and came home with a nice catch of slabs. He pulled out his electric knife and I pulled out my really expensive one and we went to work. He was easily cleaning three to my one and doing just as good a job. The very next day I went to CTC and bought one (I too didn't get the cordless model). I have to tell you I love it!!!!! I can easily clean 3:1 from what I use to do and actually find it much easier to use than a regular filleting knife. So, all you die hard guys that insist on doing things old school, well a buck saw did a good job until chain saws came along but if you insist on doing things old school good for you, me, I'll move along with technology thanks. I guess you can teach some old dogs new tricks but others; well, lets just leave it at that! -
Well, first of all welcome to the Kawarthas! Where is your cottage located? If it isn't too far from us, I'd be happy to keep an eye on things for you through the winter. We are on Sturgeon lake in Snug Harbour if that helps you at all.

Yup, you need a carb kit and probably need the carb cleaned, I'd also check the fuel filter to make sure it isn't gummed up. There is probably varnish in the carb and it can be a little tricky to get it out depending on how bad it is. Not hard to do if you have the tools and know what you are doing, if you want to take a drive over to Lindsay, I'll do it for you for the cost of the parts. I have the carb kit in stock so you can wait while I fix it if you want.

Apparently about 7000 customers were without power in the City of Kawartha Lakes after the storm yesterday. Radio said some won't get power back until sometime this afternoon. I bought a 6500 W generator about three years ago, haven't had to use it since I bought it but I was able to help Beans out last year when they were stuck without power so at least it has had some use. I feel sorry for anyone that doesn't have some sort of a back up plan, -19°C here this morning!

I have a flat (well, almost flat) roof on my boat house and there is less snow build up on it than any of the sloped roofs. Any wind and it just drifts the snow off. I ended up putting that rolled asphault stuff on mine. 4 years later and still no leaks or problems. You won't have any problems!

Glad you enjoyed it, I know we enjoyed the capt. bob's shrimp, it was a huge success too!

Oh Bruce, what a wonderful thing, Molly needed a special person to love her and you needed a Molly in your life. It truly is Christmas. Doesn't matter if she fishes or not, the most important thing is that you both need each other! All the very best to you and Molly my friend!

I have been driving Polaris machines for 10 years now, sleds and ATVs. When I bought my first ATV I told the salesman I needed something dependable and that would go just about anywhere I could walk. About two months later I stopped in to see him but I commented that I had asked for a machine that could go anywhere I could walk. He looked at me a little strange until I added "this thing has taken me through stuff that I wouldn't even try to walk through!" As far as needing repairs; apart from normal maint. and trying to use one as a submarine I haven't had to spend a penny on any of them. I have also towed plenty of other machines out of the bush but never had to tow a Polaris out. I didn't baby mine either, skidded hundreds of logs out of the bush and broke many miles of trails. Take care of your machine with proper maint. and it will take care of you. Personally, I wouldn't buy anything but a Polaris but that is just based on my personal experience.

Check with the local ATV club they will be able to tell you what you can and can't ride and where in that area, all areas are different. My understanding is that you can ride 2 up on most trails but not on most roads. As far as the best place to buy and the best time; buy from an individual if you can but have it checked by a mechanic before you buy it. I sold a sled a fer years ago that was in mint condition for less than half what I paid for it and it only had 700 miles on it. It was in show room condition! The buyer got a really good deal and I got more than a dealer would have given me for it!
