Had a guy out here watersking last Sunday (either that or they were using the biggest muskie bait I have ever seen and going way too fast). Water is still really cold but no ice in sight.

Pedestrians and cycilists seem to have the attitude that because they have the right to do something it is alright to do it. What they don't seem to understand is that a car traveling at 80km/hr is coming at them at 73'/second. On a dark night with no lights assuming the driver can see them even 230' away that gives the driver less than 3 seconds to realize what it is they are seeing and take evasive action. Reports say this woman was doing 90 in an 80 zone, who here doesn't? She blew zero on the road side breathalizer She had no reason to expect that there would be 3 kids without lights riding abreast on that road at 1;30 in the morning. The reports that one of the invistagators was a friend of her husbands turned out to be false. She didn't file a suit against them until after they sued her. I'm sorry but if most of you were in her situation I think you would be filing a countersuit too or would you just say it's all my fault and pay the $900,000.00? Wayne, glad to hear that Leah managed to avoid them but here is where I think they should be charged!

Might be just an error? Call FedEx and see what they have to say.

Drive safe, you should be home just in time for the crappies to be turned on. water here was only 44°F yesterday still way too cold for the good action.

That really sucks! Was it password protected? Mine is set up that after 10 failed attempts it wipes the phone clean and renders it useless. I also have the "find my phone" set up on mine just in case (I know, hind sight is 20/20). Bell should be able to find your phone though if it is turned on but I'm not sure they would even bother to do it. A friend of mine had her phone stollen, her dad used the "find my phone" found out where it was and called the police, they wouldn't even go to the house were it was. Sorry for your luck, I hope it all works out ok for you!

28 gauge I hope

Will do! Should have posted on this sooner so I could have had a whole list of questions to ask. Anyone else thinking of going steel roof, here is a good place to get started!

I have to tell you, I really appreciate your help and advice on this, wish you were closer!

Super information, thank you so much! Just got off the phone, 40 year paint warranty in writing from the manufacturer however it is only 29 gauge. I did ask about 28 gauge and he said he has been using this for about 12 years now without any issues. He did say he could get and use 28 gauge but it is more expensive and he didn't think it was necessary but would quote us on that if we wanted. I will ask for a quote on the 28 gauge. Again, thank you so much for helping to educate me on what is good and why and what questions to ask.

So true LOL. Old man, old values, your word and a hand shake was as good as or better than any written contract. Saddly those days seem to be gone. There are some advantages though to being older, at 68 I have learned that you have to keep on learning every day (at 16 all I wanted to do was get out of school and get a job). I have also learned that they don't give seniors discounts at the LCBO or beer store no matter how old you are LOL. (but I keep asking ) -
I will be calling him in the next hour Lew. Thanks!!!!!

Was up in Minden yesterday Head lake had lots of open water but still some ice. There is still some snow in the bush but most of that is gone now. Miners Bay still had a fair bit of ice but I think that was mostly from the wind.

Glad to hear it all worked out for you! Thanks for letting us know.

I have no idea who the supplier of our shingles was and the contractor that did the job has since passed away. My shingles aren't compleatly toast yet, I could probably get another couple of years out of them but I would rather be sure and safe than sorry.

I don't know what the pitch is, it isn't very steep but it isn't what would be classed as a low pitch roof I don't think. If I had to guess I would say it probably drops about 1' in 3'. There are 2 valleys no chimney 2 roof vents for plumbing. They said something about cutting shingles back from the edges a couple of inches all around the edges to allow for trim apart from that strapping the existing roof. It will be sheet but I didn't ask what gauge it would be, they are getting it from the local Menonites "Stoll Metal Products" which seems to be the supplier of choice around these parts. I haven't asked about what material the strapping would be but it is 1 X 4, didn't ask about spacing, I guess I just figured they knew what they were doing. No big trees close to the house but I do have a row of cedar trees running along one side of the house that go about 15' above my roof line. Flashings and vents. Ridge vents, snow guards on all slopes, not just over the doors, drip moldings and trim (caps) on all outside edges. The comapny we got the quote from is Elite Roofing Systems in Bobcaygeon his name is Jayson Doucet. Seemed very professional, and sat down with us and answered any questions we had and no pressure what ever. I didn't think to ask about paint warrenty, Stoll have been around these parts for quite a few years and seem to have a good reputation. He did say that any color would fade to some degree given enough time and that is why we chose charcoal grey rather than black. Hope this is enough to help. Cliff

I kind of have mixed feelings about this whole thing; If I understand correctly she is being sued, am I correct? Now she is counter sueing, am I still correct? It sounds to me like this was an ACCIDENT! The only sad part of it is that a child lost their life and several other people including the driver and the parents have had their lives changed forever. It is sad but it happens all the time, kids do things they shouldn't, christ, adults do things they shouldn't and sometimes we get lucky and sometimes we aren't. I just don't see the logic in eather party sueing anyone, it isn't going to bring the child back, and it isn't going to remove the feeling that the driver has. However if the driver is being sued I totally understand a counter suit. If someone pointed a finger at you and said "murderer" would you just stand there and take it if you were innocent? My wife hit a kid on a bike almost 40 years ago, it was the kids fault, he came out from behind parked cars and right in front of her, there was nothing she could have done to avoide it. To this day it still bothers my her! Forty years and this has plagued her, who is to blame; the kid for making a mistake? Or her for being on the road that night?

Well, it is getting to that time, our roof is 12 years old (so much for 25 year shingles LOL). It doesn't leak yet and I am told that they MIGHT be ok for a couple of more years but the last thing I need in my life is to wake up in the middle of the night in a rain storm and find water coming into my house. I got a couple of quotes; 57 bundles of shingles (50 + caps and starters), strip the old stuff off, two rows ice and water shield, tar paper the rest, new gutters (2) $4600.00 all in. Then I got a quote from a local guy (good reputation) to do it in steel. Snow guards and all $5200.00 and he (swares and guarentees) that it will never leak and will last many times longer than shingles. I wanted black, (our house is grey) Sue wantes charcoal grey (she is afraid black will fade over time) Anyone else got any thoughts on this?

I did as was suggested in the original thread and did try to just ignore it. The result was that they went and filed a police report and have now threatened to sue me! You guys are right, I am letting it worry me and I shouldn't! Oh, and I am partially at fault, I was backing up in a parking lot so I am automatically partially at fault, (or so I am told) and he could have sounded his horn or hit the brakes but he didn't and had he been watching what was going on he would have seen my backup lights on and stopped, he didn't! That being said however, I could have done more damage to his car if I had thrown a basket ball at it! (and I'm old, well not as old as Beans but I'm working on it LOL) I guess my biggest problem with all of this is that my honesty and integrety are being challanged by these guys and their lies, I guess it is just my old school attitude but those are two very important things to me! In my day someone smacked you one, you smacked him back and when it was all sorted out you shook hands and bought each other a beer, doesn't seem to work that way anymore. I am going to take your advice and Monday morning I am just going to forward their latest letter to my insurance company and ask them to contact these guys directly and let them handle it! The most interesting thing is that they don't even own the car and twice I have asked for their insurance information and they haven't provided it! Thanks again everyone for all your input and ideas, I do need to let things like this slide off my back and being able to talk it out really helps. I really appreciate all the "professional" advice I have been given too! There were/are a lot of things I just didn't know because I haven't been there before! Always here for you if I can be! We had a similar problem with ours, turned out one of the air adjustments was partly blocked with a small piece of stuff.

All of your replies are very much appreciated! That is good information about the information in a MVC report (can you tell I have no experience in stuff like this LOL). My concern is that if I ignor this, the next thing I could get is a notice of claim from the Small Claims Court? Now I have to file a defence and then I could end up having to appear for a discovery and then even have to appear in small claims court (all in Parry Sound). Ignor that and I could be found guilty by default and a judgement issued against me. Believe me I have seen some really strange things happen in small claims court! It doesn't always matter who is right or wrong, it is how the judge feels at the time. Once I have talked to the officer in Parry Sound on Monday I'll have a better idea of what is really going on and then try to formulate a plan on how to handle this. -

Thanks for the replies! I don't think ignoring this is going to make it go away, I think they see $$ here and are going to do what ever they can to get that money. Even their comment about me agreeing to pay up to $2000.00 out of my pocket doesn't make any sense. I have never had an at fault accident (a guy did run a red light and T-boned me about 5 years ago) and haven't even had a speeding ticket or any moving violations in over 30 years. What reason would I have for not wanting to put this through insurance, it isn't likely to affect my rates. My only thought at the time was that if the cost was at or near my deductable I might as well just pay it out of pocket. I am going to wait until Monday and talk to the officer that took the report then try to figure out my next step. If he put in the report that I agreed to pay up to $2000.00 then he has filed a false police report but I am not sure anything can be done about that, it would be his word against mine. Right now I am thinking I might just go into my local detatchment with all of this and their letters and see about having them charged with attempted extortion although right now I just want to fight back, I may have calmed down by the time I talk to the OPP on Monday LOL. He never did go to a colision reporting center, just a body shop (6 weeks after I dented his door) and got the estimate. Who knows what he told them he wanted done. Thanks again gang, I'll update as this goes along. -
Sturgeon Lake got close to but not up to the highest levels last year but they have dropped back a good 3-4" now.

http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=73401&hl=%2Bbig+%2Bcliff&do=findComment&comment=835767 A couple of days after getting their letter I got a phone call from the driver of the Honda, wanting to know if I had received their letter and when I was going to send them the money. I told him that there was no way I was paying them the $1900.32 and to send me their insurance information because I was going to turn it over to my insurance company. They never did. I contacted my insurance company and told them what was going on so they have it on record as well. Yesterday I get another letter from them saying that I agreed to pay for the damages as long as it was under $2000.00 and since I wasn't going to honor my word they had called the police and filed a report. He was the one that kept insisting that the damages would be under $2000.00 so there was no need to call the police of insurance companies. They went on to say that if I didn't pay them within 30 days they would sue me in small claims court. I called Parry Sound OPP and they do in fact have a report on file but the responding officer wasn't in and won't be until the 28th and the person I talked to wouldn't give me any information about what was in the report and said he couldn't send me a copy of it, something to do with freedom of information. He did give me the drivers contact information, occurance report #, and told me that the car is registered to (XXXXXX) "someone other than the driver or the passanger". How is it that they could file a report like this and no one even told me about it or contacted me to get my side of the story? Why is there a police report naming me and I can't get a copy of it, I am being falsly accused and can't defend myself. (mind you it is my word against his). Why would I provide him with all my insurance information, (I even gave him a copy of my insurance slip) if I had no intention of putting it through insurance? How can someone sue you for damages to a car that they don't even own? To be honest with you this feels like an attempt to extort money from me but they seem to be playing the game fairly well. What it would take for me to have them charged with attempted extortion or could I even do that? I always try to keep my word and and do right by others. Things like this eat at me and I can't sleep and I can't get it out of my head. Sorry for rambling here but I value the input from you all and I don't know what I should do next.

Well my friend I think you just got your wish. The wind today has cleared Goose Bay of ice. Might be able to do some fishing by the weekend. There is still plenty of ice in the main body of the lake but it is more slush than ice.

Flood waters are now receding in the Kawarthas and it seems that for the most part danger has passed for our area at least. Roy, thank you for pinning this but I guess it could be un pinned now to leave room for other important things! Thanks! Big Cliff
