  1. Steve, you and I have been friends for a long time, long enough to know that we can have a difference of opinion without ever offending each other. I don't have any problem with anyone feeling like she did the wrong thing, clearly it probably wasn't the right thing to do considering the outcome. I just don't believe that she should be punished for the rest of her life because of an accident. Sue hit a kid many years ago, the kid came out from between parked cars, everyone said it wasn't her fault, she couldn't have stopped in time. She still has nightmares about it to this day! I just don't believe that this girl should pay for a mistake made with good intentions for the rest of her life. Nothing short of you hitting on my wife would ruin our friendship (ok well she is kind of special so I might have to reconsider that one too but Debbie would kill you anyway LOL).
  2. If you can't express your opinion without personal attacks maybe you should keep them to yourself? That's the exact thing that gets threads locked. I'm sure she's been called worse than dame and I'll be Smitty55 had alternate names which he INTELLIGENTLY opted not to share. If you think calling her an Idiot dame wasn’t derogatory (and I can only assume he has never met her). If you think that insinuating that because she is female that she is an idiot “some idiot dame” is ok. (Is that what you feel is intelligent!) You and he will probably get along just fine on an extended fishing trip. Personally I tend to try to show respect to and tolerance for everyone until they give me reason not to! You see, at my age I have had time to make plenty of mistakes. When I look back on my life I have made plenty of stupid ones without ever meaning to harm a single person. Thankfully I don't think I ever have but it easily could have been different. In fact if the statement is true that; “we learn from our mistakes” I should probably be one of the smartest people in the world! Sadly I think it is pretty evident that I am not! The one thing I have learned (and I am still working on this) is to try to show compassion and understanding! Sometimes it is a very hard thing to do. I will say one thing about this thread, it has taught me a lot about how some others think and see the world. My friends will always be my friends because we can agree to disagree and at the end of the day still respect each other’s opinions. It has also taught me that there are a few here that I wouldn’t get in a boat with if it was the last life raft leaving a sinking ship! For those of you that fit into that catagory; may you live long enough to gain the wisdome you think you have!
  3. Then you are following too close!
  4. And I respect your opinion too, but how about we also find the father guilty too! His actions contributed to the death of his 16 year old daughter. He was obviously speeding and in any rear end colision it boils down to care and control of your vechicle; The 'Rules of the Road'If someone hits you from behind, it is virtually always his or her fault, regardless of the reason you stopped. A basic rule of the road requires that you be able to stop safely if a vehicle stops ahead of you. So, as a tailing driver, if you cannot stop in time and wind up rear-ending the vehicle in front of you, you are not driving as safely as you need to be under the circumstances. If the father had proper care and control this wouldn't even be an issue and no lives would have been lost. At no time have I suggested she should get off with a slap on the wrist but I do think that the circumstances should carry some weight too.
  5. Stupid (No doubt about it, although the intentions were nobel the decision was stupid) Incredibly poor judgment (Sure she exercised poor judgment, lots of people on this board have too, fall through the ice, upset your boat, drive in a blinding snow storm…..) Irresponsible to the point of being criminally negligent (at what point does “criminally” come into it?) Absolutely no common sense ( I never said in my OP that her decision was smart but she could face life in prison on the one charge and up to 14 years on the other one. My question was Where is the JUST in justice). I don’t believe she should get off scot free, I just believe that the sentence should be reflective of the intent. Actions like that don't deserve a second chance in my books. (Here is where we would disagree; I believe that everyone deserves a second chance when there is no malice or criminal intent.) Some idiot dame (that comment just showed the level of your intelligence! Up until now I didn’t realize that there was a sub zero level.) Here's to hoping she gets 25 years. (Compassion certainly isn’t one of your strong suits is it? I bet that if it was you or some member of your family you would have a very different attitude.)
  6. Beans my friend; at this point in your life take all the chances you want! What the heck have you got to loose? So you run out of juce half way home, big deal! You just go for it my friend, take a run into Tim Hortons in Bobcayegon, just call and let me know ahead of time and I'll stand by in case you do have a problem. 30 miles is a long way, the Manor can't be more than 5 or 6 each way (if that). Buddy, live each day like there is no tomorrow and just remember you have a ton of friends that would bail you out in a heart beat and be happy to do it! Go Beans GO!!!!!
  7. Oh, like I'm sure she thought about it.... gee, "save some ducks kill some people". I am quite sure she didn't think that someone would rear end her and die. As for drunk drivers: I know of one that drove a transport truck into a car on the QEW and killed two people, he got two years less a day. He was so drunk that he didn't even know he had hit anyone. If that isn't a slap on the wrist then what is?
  8. Drunk drivers kill people every day and they get a slap on the wrist! If she had plowed through these ducks and one had flown into these bikers and they had lost control and died who would you blame then? I'm sorry, what she did might have been the wrong thing to do but she tried to do what she thought was right! I don't think the penalty fits the crime.
  9. Looks like one mean dude!
  10. Beans, you are my friend! Besides MB gives me really good hugs LOL.
  11. just goes to prove; good things come in many forms!
  12. Ya, what ever happened to "care and control of your vechiel"? I stop to help a turtle cross the road; some one runs into me: I should surrender the rest of my life? what a sad sad world!
  13. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/quebec-woman-found-guilty-after-cyclist-passenger-died-while-she-helped-ducks/article19258695/ She tried to do a good thing, IMHO she tried to do the right thing! I am so sorry that it had a tragic ending for the people involved but I want to know where the JUST is in justice here! I don't see any!
  14. New ride? What happened to MB?
  15. Love those little screwdrivers LOL. What a bonus!
  16. Paul, AKA Mercman on here has come to my rescue several times now. He has guided me through repairs to a fridge, freezer, (which without his help would have cost me a lot of money) parts for a dishwasher that no one else could find and he keeps sending them to me at his cost! Paul my friend, I really appreciate what you have done for me (and I suspect many other members of this board). There are OFCr's then there are OFC members! Thank you so much for all you have done for me and I hope we can get together one day soon, you must be one heck of a good man and I would love to spend some time with you! Sincerly! Big Cliff
  17. Please don't get me wrong, I totally respect your right to do that and I do agree, there was no GOOD way to vote in this last election. As far as sending a message my question there is "who is listening and what will it change?" Saddly I suspect that the answers are no one and nothing! Wynne did not get a majority because enough people voted for her, she got it because not enough people voted against her! Even some of the unions are having second thoughts now!
  18. And look at what it accomplished!
  19. http://www.mykawartha.com/news-story/4582784-two-charged-in-fishing-equipment-theft-investigation-kawartha-lakes-opp/ Three were identified but only two charged?
  20. You want to be my Campaign Manager It could never happen my friend we are both far to honest, we would tell people the truth, say what we'd do, do what we said. People don't vote for you when you do that I'm afraid.
  21. My son has been working for drilling companies (exploration) for several years now. He typically works 3 weeks in, one week out and loves it. The work is hard, the money is fantastic, but he is in charge of camp maintainance so he has some perks. That being said, he started as a drillers helper. 12 hour shifts, work like hell, share a tent in the middle of no where with guys you have never met before. It ain't all wine and roses! I have watched this thread go go from a good political discussion to an assualt on specific individuals (I don't much care for that) to now talking about working for a living. IMHO that isn't bad! It shows the diversity of the people that visit this site. It isn't really about which political party is best, what we really need to decide is what is best for you and I and our kids. As far as I can see every one of the political parties out there are there to push their own agenda and it boils down to their survival as individuals. We need a party that says: We are Canadians! We have all the resources we need to survive! We will consider sharing those resources with the rest of the world as long as it isn't to the detriment of Canadians! We are not interested in filling our pockets, we are interested in being a part of a great country! Saddly I don't see that happening! What ever happened to "government for the people by the people?"
  22. Persuant to your post I did some reading up on WD-40. Turns out you are correct and I was wrong, I was always under the impression that it was fish oil based which it seems is a myth. I always appreciate learning about things and I do appreciate your comment! I have learned something new again. (but it does kill wasps LOL).
  23. Without being organized there isn't anything we can do that will make a differance! My next job? Well, with the way things are going I'll have to work until the day I die because I wasn't smart enough to get into politics so I could have a huge pension. Must be nice, work two terms, get a penson for life (at who's expense)? I was always too busy working and trying to make ends meet and feed my family. In my case as with many others we didn't have jobs that came with comfy pension plans and we couldn't afford to put money into pensions. It took everything we earned to feed our families and pay our taxes so we could some day get to enjoy our CPP and old age pensions. Turns out the government squandered all that money we paid into them so that now they want even more money with the promise that we will someday be able to retire with a pension we can exist on. BULL SPIT! I saw friends this past winter that had a choice: eat, freeze, or go into debt on their credit cards (which they can't afford to pay anyway). This is Canada for christ sake, we can send billions of $ in aid to other countries but let our own people suffer? Where is the logic in that? In the meantime billions of $ are getting pissed up the wall by people that I can assure you will never have to worry about going hungry because they just take what ever they want. Unlike Robin Hood, they take from the poor and give to themselves! I would start a revolution if I knew how but I don't! I would love to know how, and have the energy to make the people that spend our money accountable! Saddly I am lacking on both counts! We need some young people with the brains and energy to get this going, I would be one of the first to get involved, do nothing, you deserve what you end up with and your kids are left with or at least try! If we don't, our kids will be throwing rocks in the streets while getting shot. Is that what you want to wait for?
  24. That would be the Canadian thing to do I guess? Walk away, let it happen, as long as I have beer, and enough to eat I should be happy. Well, as you can tell, I am far from happy! The fact that I have grandkids and now great grandkids that are going to have to live with the mess that we allow to happen saddens me no end. Now I need to find a way to try to fix some of it so they at least have a chance. My biggest problem is I just don't know what or how to do anything about it.
  25. So does WD 40. works for wasps too and it is biodegradable. haven't tried it on weeds yet but I might do that this weekend.
