This rain should help to get rid of the ice pretty quick.
-
Channel is open in front of our place on Sturgeon Lake but there is still plenty of ice both sides of the channel. I am hoping I might be able to get the boat in next weekend but unless there is a serious melt I still won't be able to go anywhere except up river.
-
You are on the right track young man, don't waste another second beating yourself up over the past, live for today!
-
It is sad that a life was lost regardless of the reason but I can't help wondering how it will affect the drivers that hit him?
-
Sturgeon Lake seems to be fairly stable right now high but holding.

Thanks for all the replies! I have passed the information along. Big Cliff

I'm much the same, I just use a salmon egg hook and egg sinker, seems to work as well for me as the guys with all the fancy gear but each to their own.

I don't fish carp but a friend just called me to ask where she could buy them locally. Any help would be appreciated! Big Cliff

It might have been a red car, it was small and on the North side of the road, I didn't have time to really check it out. I suspect from the trucks that were stopped and their position it might have been the one I saw in the middle lane. No matter, still very sad!
-
When I came past it about 7 there were two transport trucks stopped, one about 200 yards West and in the center lane and one about 25 yards East of the body, (which by then had been covered), a small black car almost at where the body was. Saddly someone isn't going to be spending Easter weekend with their family.

Well, in that case, who is there left to vote for?
-
Happy belated Brian, glad to hear you got to spend the day doing what you love to do!

I was South bound on 35/115 about 6:00 last evening, I was in the passing lane and a black SUV was slightly ahead of me in the sholder lane when suddenly his left rear wheel came off. The brake drum stayed on so I suspect that it was the wheel lug nuts that came out. The driver did an excellent job of hanging on and keeping his SUV under control and headed for the sholder as the wheel and I passed him/her. The wheel shot across the road in front of me and hit the cement divider between the North and South bound lanes bounced a good 6-8' up into the air but fortunatly came back down in the South bound lanes (there was plenty of North bound traffic at the time) but wasn't showing much sign of slowing down. By now I had turned on my beacon lights (I was driving the company truck) and 4 way flashers as there were still plenty of cars coming up behind me and the wheel was still rolling down the highway and criss crossing lanes. I tried to get my front bumper on it twice to see if I could nudge it off the road, we were on a long down hill grade and this thing wasn't slowing down very quickly. Not as easy as it sounds because it was weaving and bobbing all over the place. I was a also little worried that if I did make contact though it might drop and go under my truck which could have caused a whole new set of problems and I finally decided that I would just stay behind it and let it run it's course. Finally about 2 km from where it all started the wheel finally hit the cement divider again and flopped over on it's side right against the divider and clear of the lane. There was no way for me to go back and check on the people in the SUV, by now I had traffic lined up behind me for as far as I could see and I didn't try to stop and get the wheel, I doubt I could have lifted it up into my truck anyway. I sure hope everyone was ok! I got to thinking after how easily that whole situation could have turned into a tragidy; had that wheel gone over the divider and into on coming traffic; had the driver of the SUV not kept their cool and managed to hang on until they were able to get off the road; had the traffic coming up behind me not headed the warning lights......... well, fortunatly, none of those things happened. It does just go to show though, no matter how good a driver YOU ARE, there are some things you just can't be prepaired for!

Yup, was with a bunch of fellows one time trolling for pike out in the middle of nowhere and out of the blue we were on a rock. Tore a good size hole in the bottom of our cedar strip and water was gushing in. We made it to the nearest shore but this was before cell phones and we were way off the beaten path. We ended up pulling the boat up on shore, cutting some pieces out of the floor boards, squared up the hole in the bottom of the boat and melted some pine gum to seal the patch with and pried a few nails out of the floor boards. You know, that stupid patch was still holding 5 years later and to the best of my knowledge it never did leak. Oh, and to top it all off; while me and two of the other guys were fixing the boat, stupid that was driving the boat grabs his rod and starts casting off shore and lands one of the biggest pike we had ever seen.

I just bought 3 gal of #1 syrup (2 gal of med. 1 gal. of light) for $50.00/gal I tried the making my own one year and I think it probably ended up costing me a lot more than that LOL.

You haven't tried crappie fishing on Sturgeon Lake then. There are some but the few spots that they do seem to concentrate in are fished very heavly. One spot that comes to mind; it is not unusual to see up to 25-30 boats fishing a small bay. It gets bad enough at times that you could almost walk across them and tempers start to get out of hand. The other thing is that we seem to have a population of fishermen that take everything they catch so it is unusual to find anything of a decent size.

Lived in French River for almost 15 years, fished the French and the Bay including the Bustard Islands. Like everywhere fishing has it's good and bad days but to travel that area without a guide for the first few times at least would be just plain asking for trouble. I have seen areas in there where a boat would/could go through and the boat behind him in his prop wash would be hitting rocks! IMHO it just isn't worth taking the chance!

Tracker Tundra - Legal Advice is Appreciated
Big Cliff replied to young_one's topic in General Discussion
Well, I can't provide any legal advice but I was sure glad to hear that no lives were lost. Good luck getting it all sorted out, I hope it all works out for you, please keep us posted! -
Well, I agree with you totally about the "lock em up" part of it but we would have to build new jails if we locked up all the corrupt, lying politicians! Actually, that alone might create quite a few new well paying jobs and the billions of $ wasted (squandered is probably a better word) that we would save would easily pay for it. There might even be enough of a surplus to reduce our taxes. I know, I know, wishful thinking!
-
That might be one heck of a good idea except the only winners would be the lawyers. If we sue her and her party and we win, where do you think the money is going to come from to pay us? Trust me they will find a way to make us pay it! Her suit against Hudack is a total farce anyway IMHO, she knows that by the time anything legal comes from it the election will be history. They all lie and when they do get caught they just tell new lies! Corruption in politics in Canada is alive and well!

I wanted to buy it but Sue said I already have enough cute babes wanting to go for a ride in the boat I have now.
-
Didn't you get some pictures last year? It would be interesting to see how they compair to where it is at right now.

Since we have a lot of members that depend on the Kawartha Lakes it would be appreciated if this could get pinned just until the danger has past. http://www.kawarthaconservation.com/floodforecast/index.html Thanks Cliff

Water level in Sturgeon is starting to come up quite quickly, a good 3" since this morning, looks like they are trying to hold some back to avoid flooding down stream and drawing some down from up stream. You could launch at Lunge Haven or in Lindsay and there is open water up stream of Goose Bay as of this afternoon.

Much lower this year than last! I would say that right now it is probably at very close to summer levels.
