How will the late ice out effect opener?
Big Cliff replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
We are usually seeing plenty of walleye up at the dam in Lindsay by now but I haven't seen a single one yet. Long range forecast is saying that while we might get a bit of a warm up to near normal temperatures for this weekend it is going to cool back down again after that. I have a feeling that everything will be about two to three weeks behind normal this spring. -
Call MNR. To the best of my knowledge they are the only ones that can issue permits to cut trees on Crown Land. I know that when I lived in French River we had to go to the MNR office every year to get a permit to cut fire wood on Crown land and they were very specific about what we could cut and how much.

Older than a rock, smarter than a fox, about as handsom as a coon coming out of hybernation but one heck of a good man!

I get them from local bait shops, if you have any trouble finding them, just let me know and I can pick up a couple of packs for you. One minnow will catch you a lot of crappie, they stand up really well!

All the very best to you my friend and I hope MB gives you everything you want today!

Sounds like we both use a lot of the same things, If you want to get together on an order let me know!

I have tried a lot of different things over the years but FinS minnows are by far the best producer! (although I do use colored jig heads) As for places to look for them; back bays, canals, marine basins (if they will let you fish there). Don't be afraid to fish shallow, I often find them in as little as 2' of water early spring. Also play with your line depth below your float, sometimes 6" more or less line can make a huge difference even over 3 or 4' of water. I find that they seem to be most active when the water temperature is between 58 and 62°F, doesn't mean you won't catch them outside that but if you and find them in that temperature range you are going to be catching a lot more fish. Lastly, if you are getting hits and they quit, try moving slightly one direction or the other, they tend to move as a school and sometimes if you just relocate a few feet you can stay on them.

Very sad news! Sorry to hear it!

A friend just came back in off Sturgeon Lake, he tried a few places all had between 24 and 30" of ice. However every hole he drilled he had lots of water coming up onto the ice and it made it quite messy!

Like the deer, turkeys, rabbits. Tried feeding the rabbits here one winter, the owls and fox took care of that plan LOL.

Got out and cleared mine before it got too warm so it was still nice and light. Then the wind came up and drifted a lot of it back in. It has warmed up enough now that it isn't drifting any more and things are starting to melt again. I sure hope this is the last of it though!

If there is any way you can afford buying new then do it. I have seen so many "used" machines that looked good and seemed to run well but that had serious issues with them! Unless you really know the history of a used machine be very careful!

Only job in the world where you can be wrong 85% of the time and people still believe you!

Just a little thing and doesn't make much difference in the operation of the car but: A couple of years agoI was doing some sales/marketing work for a coffee supplier. I had talked to quite a few car dealerships as part of our program. Most of them were interested in providing coffee and tea for their waiting rooms but the Subaru dealer in Peterborough insisted right off the bat that he wanted the best for his customers because they deserved it! We talked for a while about what system would supply the quality and variety he wanted for his customers and he decided on a single serve system. His cost per cup was almost tripple what most of the dealerships wanted but as he explained: They buy the best, they deserve the best! That statement alone made me think that If I could afford it my next car would be a Subaru. For a variety of reasons I did opt for a Nissan but I really wish I hadn't!

LOL now that was good!

Well, at this rate I wouldn't be surprised if we still have ice on the lakes when you do come back!

Had to drive up to Sudbury yesterday, wasn't so bad going up but coming back with white outs and all it sure didn't feel like spring! Looks like we are staying well below normal until at least the end of the month.

You post as many pictures as you want! I have been through it more times than I care to remember, just try to remember that while this is very hard on you it is the kindest thing you can do for your beloved friend! My heart goes out to you!

It breaks our hearts but it just isn't fair to her to be stuck with two old people! She loves to please, she loves to cuddle she is such a suck and very well behaved!

Well, you may be right but I have never had to tow a Polaris out of the bush. I have never had to be towed out of the bush ( in 14 years) ! I have had to tow more than one Yamaha (and a few other makes)out of the bush with my Polaris. Oh, and now you know at least one guy that traded his Polaris for a newer Polaris and has no regrets what so ever. My machines are WORK machines but I also trail ride with them, use them for ice fishing, hunting...... I do most of the regular maintainance on them myself so maybe that is the reason I have such good luck on them.

I am a Polaris fan, I have a 450 sportsman that just keeps going and I had a 1997 300 before that, and got the 450 in 2006 both machines work hard and both served me well!

Looking for a good home for a 3 year old begle! Mandy is a fun loving, friendly and very affectionate pup. She loves to chase rabbits (or just about anything that moves) (haven't had a mouse in the house since we got her), loves kids and cats is house broken and very clean! She has been fixed and has had all her shots and has no health issues! As with any beagle, she needs room to run, and Sue and I just can't give her the exercise she needs. We have the invisable fence but our lot is only 3/4 of an acre. This is not a dog that would do well locked in a kennel all the time, she is too socialized. If you are interested or know of someone that is, please let me know ASAP Cell# 705-928-8899 Email [email protected]

I know I can buy what I need from Electro-Sonic but I figured I would rather deal with an OFC member if I could. I am looking for: about 250 white LEDs (1" or longer leads) 25 simple off/on switches 25 plastic battery holders (2X AA) covered 100' light gauge wire Not a big order I know but it is a start.
