I too would go with the canoe for those longer trips. I have had several over the years, not too long (14' max) for one person. Something wide so it is stable. I have never owned a Sports Pal but know a few people that have and for what you described it sounds like a match. From what I am told they are almost imposible to flip but they are still light and easy to manouver.

It only takes a second! There have been a few times when I have "taken a chance" = "not really sure what to expect but nothing bad is going to happen". It really goes to show that ANYTHING can happen and it can happen in a heartbeat. I've been one of the lucky ones, my number just wasn't up at that time but it can happen to any of us at any time no matter how invincible you might think you are! I'll bet you anything the driver of that truck didn't go out there that day thinking that someone would die. My heart goes out to the families and all that were involved,

I had a 1998 Subaru Forester, that thing was awsom!!!!!! I put snow tires on it for the winter and often drove around people that were stuck on ice or in snow. It was without a doubt one of the best cars I ever owned, I wish I had gone that route again except there isn't a dealer here in Lindsay. I talked to a mechanic one day and he told me that if he had to make a living off Subarus he'd be living on the street.

Super report and some really nice pictures! Congrats!

I have sold a few things both through here and other on line sites and I have always tried to make sure that the buyer got a good deal and there were no hidden problems. I don't ever want to be walking down the street and have to hide my face. Unfortunatly not everyone is like that so it has to be buyer beware!

I don't go on Facebook but I made an exception in this case!

X2 Take your time, there are good deals out there to be had and getting caught up in a bad one could take a lot of the fun out of fishing for a long time to come. Give us some ideas of what you are looking for; what sort of water do you intend to fish? What do you have to tow it with? What is your budget? Are you planning on doing a lot of trolling? The more information you can give us to work with the more we can help you!

Wow, this is an excellent thread. Perhaps we should have a review section on here for cars/boats...... it would be a hit with anyone that was looking!

I did have a Fronter and had a problem with the engine on it but in that case Nissan (and the dealership) were fantastic to deal with. They even provided me with an upgraded fully loaded truck for the seven weeks mine was laid up while they changed the engine and also gave me back my lease payments for the seven weeks. Once the engine was changed out, there were never any other problems. With this Rogue about the only thing I keep hearing is "that's just the way it is"! They will fix the tailgate under warranty but it is a new car, it shouldn't have to be fixed already and they will fix what I can see but what about the stuff I can't see right now. (they have also said they would talk to the body shop about having the front spoiler plastic welded when the tailgate is being done for a a fee of course) They have offered to disconnect the sport mode switch but that doesn't solve the problem of it being very poorly desigined. You pay for it, it's no good so they disconnect it?
-
Boy I wish they would take this one back, how do you go about it without loosing your shirt on it?

I have a Rogue and I am not the least bit happy with it: The back up sensors on it are a joke (they are actually pointed up in the air rather than down behind you and even when they do work, you can't hear them) I have had my air bag light come on but they can't figure out why (they said it must be weather related but they don't know, that is very rearasuring) I don't find the seats comfortable for long trips, they are hard and boxey The "sport mode" switch is located right beside the drivers seat so if you are wearing a coat you are constantly putting it into sport mode which is harder on fuel but does little else for you My car is only 4 months old and already there are rust bubbles coming through the paint on the tail gate I get 460 km for the first half a tank of gas and less than 100 km before the empty warning light comes on, clearly the fuel gauge isn't calibrated properly but as with so many other things with this car, "that's just the way it is!". You are not supposed to be able to lock yourself out of the car while the key is in the ignition, yup, 4 times so far when I talked to the dealership about it they told me that it happens so often now the techs even put the window down on the car when they are working on it. (Not good when you are trying to warm the car up on a cold winter morning). The first time I took Sue out on the highway with it she kept checking to see if the one of the windows was open because of the wind/road noise, her Toyota is much quieter. Start the car on a cold winter morning and you'll think you have a deisel, even sitting in the car you have to turn the radio up to hear it over the valve clatter. In Jan. I went through a snow drift coming in our road, my neighbor had been through it 20 minutes before me with his Honda, Sue drove through it about 10 minutes before with her Toyot, as I went through it I herd a snap sound, when I got home I checked and the spoiler had a crack in it from the top down, I showed it to the dealer and their comment was that "well this is a much colder winter than normal" Wait a minute, the Honda and Toyota which are both smaller than my Rogue didn't have any damage to them and there is no impact mark or anything so I didn't hit a chunk of ice or anything. I have been driving Nissans for 12 years now and was always very satisified but based on my experience with this one it will be my last. I have even requested a meeting with Nissan regarding the issues with it, that was three weeks ago and as of this morning they have not responded or even acknowledged my request so if you are thinking a Rogue you might want to consider my experience!

Had to drive Beaverton to Tottenham three round trips in that stuff yesterday from 10 am until just after 10 pm non stop, boy that was fun. I even had a few fools pass me while I was doing 80 in an 80 zone white knuckle most of the way. Saw plenty of cars in the ditch and one really bad accident on Davis Drive just East of the 400 about 7:30 last night. I didn't stop because emergency services were on the scene but one of the cars was really badly smashed up. I'm sure glad that run is over with, by the time I got home last night I was beat! I can't wait for summer and dry roads to get here!

Big Cliff replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
Moe I love you dearly but even I wouldn't be willing to do that for you if you did win, besides, I'm going to win anyway so I wouldn't be here to do it for you! -
Even 1 is too many!

Just about sums up my opinion of this winter LOL.

Who ever coined the phrase "dumb animals"?

Oh Lew, the tears are streaming down my face as I read your post and I feal the pain. He was a wonderful friend and companion and he couldn't have had a better home. I know from experience the hole that they can leave in our lives, and they will never be forgotten! May he forever live on in your heart and the hearts of all of those he touched in the years gone by. R.I.P Marvin the wonder dog!

Good apples/bad apples Good Fisherpersons/bad Fisherpersons Good Cos/bad Cos Can you tell which is which until you check them out? If you are good and get checked by a good Co, no problem! If you are good and get checked by a bad Co there shouldn't be a problem! If you are bad and get checked by either you deserve to have a problem! One of my very close friends when I lived up in French River was a Co, you wouldn't believe some of the bull poop they have to contend with. At the end of a very long day of trying to chase down poachers, figure out who is telling you the truth and who is just a very good liar I don't doubt that some of them get very frustrated and sometimes they don't always react as we would like. I sure wouldn't want their job! Dambed if you do, dambed if you don't!

Anyone interested in a mid week fishing trip for next week, 3 days two nights? I am flexible as to which days, wouldn't mind getting some jumbo perch, trout, and white fish too would be nice. This just sounds like very reasonable trip with what sounds like a very good operator to miss out on as an end to a bitter winter.
-
Just curious, I am looking for a place down that way for next year, if you don't mind could you give us more details on the area, cost, fishing opportunities close by. PM me if you don't want to post openly.

On my last trip out I passed an accident, it was dark, snowing, and blowing snow so I turned my 4 ways on to warn oncoming traffic that there was a problem ahead. When I see someone with their 4 way flashers on I pay extra attention, might just be that they are trying to warn me of something or it could be they just forgot to turn them off but either way I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Well, it's a lot colder than normal down there for this time of year but it's a heck of a lot warmer than it is here! Wish I was back down there right now, just looked at the long range forecast for here and we are staying well below normal for at least the next two weeks. Enjoy your stay!

In all my years fishing and hunting I have only ever had one bad encounter with a CO. I was coming out from duck hunting 10 minutes before case time and he stopped me before I could put my gun in the case and started talking to me. He checked our shells and all our gear and ducks no problem. This whole conversation took about 15 minutes then he asked me if I knew when case time was. I looked at my watch and told him it was 5 minutes ago and he said he was going to give me a warning. I insisted he charge me because we were going to be going to court and he was going to end up looking like an idiot. A couple of shots sounded a short ways off and he left in a hurry without giving me a warning or charging me. I have had many, many other interactions with COs over the years and never a problem, I have even offered to take them out in my boat here in the spring becaues I often see people taking OOS fish and over limits of fish. Just happy to see them doing their jobs.

Well, if he stole a calander he probably got 12 months!

Bruce, that's wonderful news, I am really happy for you but I wish I had known you were moving, I can't lift a lot anymore but I'd have been happy to help driving or wharever!
