  1. Shoulda bought a pickup..... LOL... jk!
  2. If your travelling relativey slow, your likely only to take out your prop. I did in one blade of a prop on crowe lake years ago and I was only doing a few MPHs. I'm not trying to put you off, because there is some decent fishing to be had, but be warned that even regular cottagers on the lake have been know to smash up a lower unit every so often....... It happened to me to the tune of 3k or thereabouts. I was doing about 25- 30km at the time in a location I "thought" I knew well, and a big old rock just rose up to meet me out of nowhere. Every year I hear of it happening to a neighbouring cottager or friend of friend at least once, so just be careful as not all obstructions are marked! Good luck!
  3. What side do you want to launch. There is a launch on keswick side at the end of Walter street, and there is another at the end of Guilford road on the Other side of the bay!
  4. I only own mauis and have no experience with the other brands. I am very happy with the MJ's. I have also used their warranty service, and it is second to none. Your mileage may vary!
  5. That's only estimated..... And it's truly estimated! I know the lake very well ( family cottage) and wrecked a lower unit on Kahshe. Good luck, and go slow outside of marked channels!!
  6. There is some truth to this. While fun to catch, I sometimes find the bloody things a nuisance while pickerel fishing the kawarthas!
  7. I broke a rod on its first trip out a week after purchase. It was a fenwick not a shimano, but Lebaron replaced it in the store no problems! Good luck!
  8. Clearly your doing it wrong!
  9. I don't care if it pisses you off, it is certainly my right to give an opinion! its a message board, thats what they are for! Your response indicates you have no idea the time, elbow grease and cashola that goes into being a member of a large organized jointly owned year round hunt/fish camp. We block access to nothing, and have great relations with our neighbouring camps. But from time to time, every camp in the area has had troubles with freeloaders. There was a time we didn't have to chain stuff down, or take oars out of the bush. Not so much anymore!
  10. Yes, until you spend hours in time and labor dragging them in, then have people cutting your chains, stealing your stashed oars, leaving your boats to drift etc. Plus leaving them full of used plastic baits, dead line, beer cans and garbage and then not bothering to flip them back over when done so they can fill up with rainwater. Add to that, they had to trespass through your hunt camp, that is PRIVATE and the only accessible trail has been maintained by yourselves and one other camp back in the bush..... Finders users indeed. If people had half a brain about it, guys like me and my hunt gang would have a pretty laid back attitude about the use of our boats, however we don't because dum dums come through and make a mess, with no regard to our labours!
  11. Your boats or someone elses?
  12. They where trying to make a quick buck off you! Glad you didn't get taken!
  13. Book value on an old hull is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay. All the add ons are awesome, but that hull is going to hurt you terribly wether or not the work has been done to it! People won't pay much for a hull of that vintage and it hurts the overall picture. That's the trouble with doing up a rig like that unless your in it for the long haul! Sorry I can't evaluate a price for you, but best of luck!
  14. Walter street launch, foot of Walter in keswick, takes you in on the east shore, in the marsh where your relatively protected!
  15. I have a loomis IM6 float rod that has landed untold numbers of steelhead and is over 20 years old. I have many other fishin poles that have been around for years and years! Without being abused, they can last indefinately. A rod that is structurally flawed ge really snaps on the first trip out!
  16. I'd be having words with those neighbours if I where you! That's plain ignorant!
  17. West lake, just down the way.
  18. Thanks, was working nights last few days...... It does wonders for your reading comprehension, LOL!
  19. FYI you can load it straight to the Dakota 20 without a card. I did this, then loaded it to a micro SD card as a backup to leave in the truck.
  20. If your going with a commercial map, go with backroads maps sd card. My buddy has it and it is excellent! If your interested in saving some cash, download IBYCUS for free. I recently added it to my Dakota 20, and for 0 dollars I think it's fantastic! Had a bit of help from a member here getting it set up, PM me if you need a bit of info, but almost everything is available online for directions. I am just a little computer dumb, so needed some assistance, but I've got it figured out now!
  21. I agree with the above statement. I commute 100KM each way when I'm on shift. I drive a 98 civic. While we have a late model pickup in the driveway, we also have a late model truck payment that goes with it. I will drive my little civic into the ground! It is great on gas, relatively cheap to fix, and the damn thing is extremely reliable. I don't have to put a whole pile of money into it each year either. My father in law drove his last subaru to 350K before the head gasket went on him, and he decided to replace instead of fix. Your forester at 220k is just nicely broken in!
  22. Sounds about right, I wouldn't change a thing unless you have a need to go faster!
  23. I run a 14 footer deep v utility rated for a 30hp with a 15hp outboard. I can run 19mp, and the boat will still plane with 2 guys and all gear even if I lay off the throttle a bit. I don't have floors, but have seats, trolling motor battery, gear, cooler, I weigh 230 and don't have a buddy that is less than 200lbs. Unless your hull is extremely heavy, or has a lot of interior finish like heavy floors etc, I don't think it'll be an issue. By the way, I run my Jonson at wot all the time, and frankly even when I had my lund and larger motor, I pinned it all the time. I have never had an issue, and it's never caused motor damage or failure. My old boat is still running great and a buddy owns it! I use premium amsoil synthetic, and all my 2 stroke and 4 stroke power equipment purrs like a kitten! Edit to add, I also have a starcraft. Figure out what your floors weigh, and take it into consideration!
  24. For kawartha weed mats, you can also try drifting overtop with the motor trimmed up, and drop a jig and grub in every pocket you drift over. Many folks equate this with bass, however I have turned up many a pickerel this way!
  25. Thanks for update!
