  1. i strongly prefer a 60' farm jack, never leaves the box, but come alongs are cheaper, maybe find a scrap pipe to fit over the handle for leverage
  2. depends on the snow and how it's packed really...i've gone through 2 to 3' of fresh sugary powder, 4x4,duratracs/mud tires with no chains, no issue at all hard packed snow is much different, get high centred and you're digging to get going again, but keep rolling smoothly without spinning you're usually ok...if you pack a portable compressor dropping the psi will help a bit for what you described wouldn't think you'd need chains, but definitely get the vbar chains if you're buying chains and chain up before you think you need it
  3. newer version of the black betty it looks like (which I like/don't like lol)...if it still free spools with a lightweight lure it would be a good reel but for deep water lakers I'd still stick to my c3 on a baitcast ice rod cool look design though
  4. that's the upper end of the budget, I was looking at the samsung led's at costco and bestbuy in that range plasma were cheaper but really didn't look better to me, but i hear so many reviews saying better picture
  5. looked at the 4K tv's, look amazing and seemed sharper to my eyes at any distance...but sales guy said it's brand new and basically not supported yet? not a huge techno guy myself but didn't seem worth the extra cost...he also said the samsung 4k tv's have pretty low hertz rating? 60 vs 120 or 240 on most other HD tv's, not good for sports or high speed scenes still shopping but undecided between plasma or LED...the samsung LED is top of my list at the moment if you were dropping 1000-1500 and want 55-65", what models are worth looking at right now I saw the LG plasmas, but the samsung led's looked like a better picture to me, again not a techno guy so feel free to school me on some tv knowledge here
  6. nice job there! ice looks under 6"? at least buddy didn't become a statistic, scary stuff my last 2014 was also a snot rocket...and I also got lazy and didn't anchor, wind came out of nowhere but managed to grab on during "lift off" dropped/kicked my rod down the hole but recovered it pretty quickly in shallow water
  7. so you're one of the disgruntled neighbours? lol "The controversy started after neighbours complained that the rink didn’t look good." "“I’m in between,” said one neighbour. “This is wonderful for everybody to have a good time, but this is the city and they’re breaking bylaws. It’s too bad that this has had to happen amongst neighbours”" WOW...my childhood neighbourhood did not sound like this crap, unbelievable, pathetic pretty sad, but they have until Jan 5, not sure what the weather is like over there right now, but I'd get max use out of it, deliberately to piss off the pansy neighbours
  8. that doesn't sound like a bearing, sounds like gears are binding...do your reels get dunked in the river? I would imagine shimano would take care of you no questions asked, they have good service I have a 12 yr old stradic, replaced a few bearings and drag washers once, strip and clean during the winter, still going strong
  9. this was a huge factor, root cause IMO....a few seconds makes all the difference
  10. I'm not an expert rider, but my time riding a motorcycle vs a car/truck, sudden high speed manuevers felt MUCH more safe in a 4 wheeled vehicle vs a bike she didn't just stop, she parked on the highway without her hazard lights on...if she had her lights on that very well might have provided enough reaction time I was coming down a highway this summer and there were tourists taking pictures, no hazard lights flashing, it took me an extra second or two to realize what was going on, those couple of seconds make a big difference
  11. not according to the OPP in Fergus...
  12. the skeena gloves are the nicest neoprene's I've had, but you do lose a bit of feel and dexterity...I wish the cuff was a little higher have you tried seal skinz gloves? they sound pretty close to what you're asking for
  13. in BC you need a winter rated tire on mountain roads, often have tire checks on certain highways.....do studs actually tear up roadways? I think that's a myth, pavement seems fine out here...I've ran dedicated winter studs and currently back to duratracs on my trucks, they do help a lot I wouldn't agree with mandatory winter tires in ON, but insurance discounts and other incentives would help more people put them on....I think if you're in an accident and found to have bad tires (summer or winter) it should be extra demerit points/increased fine
  14. bill beat me to it....allen reels are quickly making a name for themselves, hard to beat on value
  15. you can throw streamers with a spey rod if your main purpose is to throw streamers for lakers, I'd recommend a fast action rod, 7 or 8 wt, 8'6" or 9' I've owned several okuma reels, fair value but unless you're buying their high end models all my reels have not stood up to hard use (helios reel being an exception) your budget is kind of an important consideration for recommendations... echo, tfo, redington all make great entry/mid level gear, good warranties (great dealings with echo and tfo myself)....would really check out allen fly fishing too http://www.allenflyfishing.com/compass-rod-series/ http://www.allenflyfishing.com/alpha-iii-reel/ you have sound advice on shooting head system above
  16. you went from casual fly caster to shooting head/running lines in about an hour...tomorrow you'll be spey casting and rambling about anchor placements, prepare your wallet!
  17. a 6wt would be a blast on 3-5lb lakers, but may/likley struggle to cast larger streamers with a full sinking line, especially in the wind...8wt would be great for bass and pike too if you're into that
  18. it seems like you're tying to keep the budget around $200? If you're a casual fly angler and want to switch lines, I'd go with that first costco combo and buy a sinking line for one of the cassettes...it will do everything you want it to if you have a bigger budget, say 400 or so, then lots of other options open up a lot of fly guys (all fisherman in general really) are huge gear hounds, always flipping gear...browsing classifieds would be a good idea as well
  19. need to call/email to ship to marcum after getting a return authorization, my lx 7 died and turn around was about 3 weeks (but I live up north, slow mail service)...my puppy chewed on my transducer cord, entirely my fault...they gave me a new tranducer for free and fixed the power unit under warranty...I was happy
  20. Fishing Innovations is using a flambeau case...bookmarked on my home laptop, this thread just reminded me I should order a case
  21. those skandic swt's are awesome, got to bomb around the laydown at work, only about 12k out of my price range LOL I know nothing about sleds, anybody got an opinionon this sled below? my buddy who knows his crap is in camp right now, so waiting till he's out to take a look, don't want to waste the driving time if it's not worth it....main purpose is ice fishing, maybe a little trail riding http://www.kijiji.ca/v-snowmobile/kelowna/1991-arctic-cat-jag-440-with-reverse/1030982449
  22. I was able to block a few numbers with my telus cell phone (888 number for parking tickets)....but I don't recall telus having the best service when I was in ON...can never have the best of all worlds be good to report him to anti fraud centre, but doubt is does much in the long run, jsut start over with a new number by the sounds of it
  23. post his phone number...i'm sure some of us enjoy prank phone calls you sure you can't block his number? I have a few blocked on my personal cell phone with telus...just googled bells policy, so they say the below instructions won't work if he's calling from a mobile? http://support.bell.ca/Home_Phone/Calling_features/How_does_Call_Screen_on_my_Bell_Home_phone_work?step=2#displayStep Call Screen is a Call Privacy feature that allows you to block up to 12 phone numbers.
