oh it can be done bro .. it can be done ... the real question is who to thank
-
Heh .. I wonder if that would count as a daily limit

Just a few miles north Lake Joseph is said to hold a few lakers ... public access right off Hwy 118 ... Jay or Bill at Baits and More in Glen Orchard (169 just south of 118) can point you where you need to go.

First two shots !

Not so fast Cliff ... I have an Ice fishing trip planned for this weekend But I suspect you are right ... I thought I got a whiff of 'Chrome' while walking by my backyard trib today -
Kinda like getting a hole-in-one on your mulligan ... feels great but you can't count it

I'm thinkin somthing along the lines as follows : Mfg : $1.00 Pkg : $1.00 Shipping :$0.50 Mfg price to distribution : $5.00 Wholesale price to retail : $6.00 Retail $12.00 (out of that comes 2 X commission for sales.. actual costs and profits) ... not as lucrative as you may think for any one link in the chain.

Love em for trolling for Musky and for trolling Lakers/Brookies deeper with Lead-Core ... also they have proven very reliable as a rigger reel with a consistent/smooth drag. (I have 4 of the 209's)... a couple of which saw alot of salmon action back in the '80's and are still in the same condition now as when I got them 30+ years ago. But I must admit to never having become very effective at casting with them

Welcome aboard ... and no you are definitely not the only one .. in fact I am savouring my "daily medication" even as I type this .... Bell's is my 5 O'clock special nothing fancy but does the trick ... and I will confess that I do have a particular fondness of The Glen Livet ... especially once it is at least old enough to vote

Anything in fishing that you've never been able to do?
camillj replied to Dave Bailey's topic in General Discussion
One VERY common cause for this type of problem on spinning reels (and I am surprised everyone says they have never seen it before) ... is OVERSPOOLING the reel .... when you do that the line tends to fly off the reel too loosely when you cast (making you feel like you can cast farther) but unless you are VERY careful EVERY time you start your retrieve you create a mess that quickly turns into a disaster. On the first pass reading this thread my assessment would have been line twist ... but this more often is manifested at the rod tip where the line keeps getting tangled around the tip ... if you dont over-spool then this sounds like it is either drag related (ruled out because you said it was tight) ... or .. as I used to find way back in the day with my old Mitchel 300's .. the anti-reverse dog would lose a tooth or two and the reel would not properly prevent 'back-reeling' - and thus a mess at the spool (not so much a problem with newer reels but was a problem with EVERY single Mitchell I owned (still not sure why I loved them so much -
Nice report ... that was poetry - cause I got the picture even before I saw the photo ... and now I am decided ... I am heading north tomorrow for openers

Sorry ladies ... I really don't understand your gripe - other than the old big brother is watching me crap ... the bad guys have been monitoring you since the inception of the internet (and before if you had anything valuable to steal)... now the govt wants make it legal for them to do the same... to maybe catch some of the bad guys in the act. If you really think ANYTHING you do on the internet is private you are living in dreamland ... as I always tell people ... dont write ANYTHING you wouldn't put on a postcard ... because many people can and do read EVERYTHING... and there is little you can do to change that (legal or not).

Well ... almost Lew .. if it was 'ensuite' bath ... and you plucked a few rose petals ... I'm thinkin you're good for some - some

If you fish in salt water (with a pro) you will notice they ALWAYS wash their lures and equipment after each outing in clean fresh water ... salt will corrode literally overnight. In freshwater I ALWAYS leave the trays open (rain or not) overnight before storing... wet lures - especially ones with bucktail or feathers will create condensation on all your other lures as they dry ... and even your plastics will get all gooey. No real need to do anything else (I dont use the gaskets as they just seal in the moisture anyways) ... BUT ... I do take one of those big $10 blue plastic storage bins (with the lid) on the boat whenever there is a threat of rain ... it serves as 100% protection of my stuff (and clothing etc) from the elements and doubles as a 'table-top' for those lures and pliers and camera and things I like to keep right within reach ... plus it makes transport to and from the vehicle alot easier.

I leave mine for the couple of weeks I fish in Muskoka every year ... I actually registered it years ago and sewed my numbers into the side ... perfectly legal ... I try to secure it into the ice to prevent any chance of the 'screws' coming loose and blowing away ... been doing it for about 10 years .. and yes ONCE ... it did disappear .. but honestly couldnt tell you if it really just blew away. I figure if you have to work that hard to protect your property (worth about 200 bucks) maybe it isnt worth protecting anyways ... anyhow ... sorry to hear about your loss .. but dont lose faith in your fishin brethren .. sure there are a few bad apples but most of them are actually stand up guys.

Tragic news, my deepest condolences to his family.

Probably wouldnt hurt starting it up once in a while too ... just to keep the plugs and carb clear of 'gunk' ...gas motors don't like sitting around for months at a time without being run for at least a few minutes

1. There is ICE (but be careful)!!!!! (There was about 5 inches black and 5 more white) About 20 people out ... most on foot where I was near Port Carling on lake Rosseau. Ice is tight - No slush, no snow ... WEAR your CLEATS ... its slippery. 2. Minnows are available close by (in Glen Orchard)... 'Bait on the Lake' has changed hands .. Jay, the new owner seems like a nice guy has plenty of Minnows and has expanded the store to have a bunch more fishing gear available. He tells me he ALSO has a store in Mactier (About 4 miles away) that opens at 5:00 AM for Minnows Happy fishin ! 3. My report ... 2 hours - three hits - 0 iced ... saw a couple nices lakers taken in that time... went to the cottage... had a duck dinner that couldn't be beat and didnt get up until the next morning.
