I enjoyed reading that Solo, I read Ralph's book (or 1 of his books, I don't know if he has more than 1), it was awesome, and is now stored with my great Canadian literature on canoeing and fishing library, you're lucky to have met him, he would be a great guy to chat with around the campfire

thanks guys with the info Solo, we were going with AMS June 18th to Caviar, just down from Teabeau on the Albany, Nancy seemed pretty doubtful that there would be enough water to get the plane into camp, soooo we are looking at Kaganagami (Kag) with AWO, the reason being, we like to try different lakes, we would probably get to this one at some point, it would be good now because being the opening week, most camps and Leuenbergers Lodge will be vacant, the river could be hot in the early season, brookies and lakers are a bonus, and it's huge, if the wind is light there's tons of water to explore any info on Kag Solo? a Nakina local once told me Kag is best in the early season with the clear, deep water, summer can make the walleye a little harder to find

We have a chance to move our fly-in trip, out of Nakina, to the opening weekend. On my satelite photo site, I can see Long Lac is open, Nagagami, Esnagi etc are open. I would appreciate if anyone can report from a little further north. I know there was some snow up there lately. thanks Chris

Sometimes local knowledge is hard to beat. Sounds like the weeds and a slower, deep presentation was the way to go. How did you like Wintering? What kind of #'s of walleye and pike (sizes too) did you get?

I picked a few on the weekend, most aren't out yet though (Oakville), this weekend should be good down here I like to drizzle balsamic vinegar and olive oil on them, shake them around abit, and put them right on the BBQ grill for a short time, taste better than boiled or steamed in my opinion

never used a custom kitchen co., I've done an Ikea at home and a depot at the cottage, seemed like alot of $ for crappy cabinets of poor quality, for the Canadians reading this, I liked Ikea better than depot

how did you know the cylinders and pistons were carboned-up? did you take the engine apart?

if you did all that you're capable enough to do the easier stuff (flooring and wall and base cabinets) you could go to Depot or Lowes and sit down and steal their ideas then do it yourself

I agree, just after the ice goes out, it's like a needle in a haystack, some deep, some really deep, some suspended, but none of them very active I'm going to Haliburton for a 4 day easter weekend, the ice has been out for over 2 weeks but it's been pretty cool weather, I'll see what happens

I'm happy with my older Garmin Etrex legend, I have the Topo Canada software for great detail on the base maps

It was always an isolated, quiet, out of the way place, it isn't listed on the Prov Parks website anymore, just wondering if they closed it? Can you still drive in there? It was a pretty cool place to camp/ fish, black bear city though.

Irishfield's recommendation is a good one, check it out, Marten River Prov. Park a little south of Temagami is another option, if the park doesn't rent small boats and motors, I'm sure one of the lodges nearby would help you out, big enough and busy enough campground ground that it will feel like bears aren't a worry

I always enjoy your posts JH, keep them up if you can looks like deer pooh right beside the one long bone picture, same animal? we always seem to play CSI when we walk in the bush, looking at animal tracks, trying to figure out the story behind whatever we find, watching birds and looking for game, there's alot to see if you pay attention, very cool

hey, be prepared that it could take alot longer than the 45 day maximum the RCMP says it will take to actually get your PAL in your mailbox, mine took about 3 months and I was calling/ bugging them consistantly near the end.

I know when dogs are fighting, they snap and lash at anything near them (ie your wifes hand). I've read that people dog sledding in the Yukon, have the whole sleigh and dog team fall into a well around a spruce tree. The dogs being piled in together, start to fight and can shred the sleigh driver in the chaos. It's you're call, you know the situation the best, you're living it, but it sounds like your dog was a model family member before the mastiff moved in. I'm biased though, I'm an animal/ pet lover myself. Hopefully things work out fine.
