hockey stuff for Leaf fans like me (NF)

I know we (the Leafs) have sucked, but they're my team and always will be, "I Am Canadian", this is where I grew up and live, and I'm in it for the long haul (for better or worse) -
what's your team Musky Matt?

I grew up watching the Leafs with my Dad, 30+ years ago, on CHCH on Wednesday nights, and on CBC on Saturdays and have been a fan ever since. I've always lived in the GTA, and always followed the Leafs. The friends, and friends of friends and co-workers who claim they are fans of other teams tick me off, the teams they jump on the bandwagon with are always solid teams- Detroit, Boston, Flyers, Habs, etc, I don't know any Blue Jacket , Panther or even Predator fans, I think they should go away and live in the city with their teams, it doesn't make sense to me

I agree with what Kypreos and company said tonight, $5.5 mil equates to 80 points per season consistently, I hope you read that in the Sun tomorrow Grabo, because you're going to have to step it up, you're a rich man, now hold up your end of the bargain If I had to guess, this is just another screw up that helps to keep the Leafs out of contention for the next few years I'm a Leaf fan but it's very frustrating putting up with their constant crappy performances, you have to go to the bottom and draft well and rebuild before you can be a contender, the Flyers finished dead last 2 years ago, now they are respectable, why do we consistently suck so hard? ahhhh, I wish I lived in Boston

with only 20ft it doesn't sound like good habitat for cold water trout species unless there's some springs

we've had various brands over the years but our group has now gone to motorola, they seem to be the best, the distances they claim they are good for isn't even close, but they work well, we found cobra to be crap, I know this goes against some previous posts

that would be great if they would stock walleye, seems they like to only stock brookies, lakers and splake, let us know what they say

Pigeon Lk (not the Kawartha Pigeon) derby, south of Minden
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
it's a smaller, stocked lake, they put in about 500 fish every 2nd year, it's easy access for people to walk out and fish you can fish where ever you like, ATV's and sleds are allowed, 2 lines per guy if you do catch even a tiny laker, you know you will be in the prizes it supports the Minden Volunteer Fire Dept., always a fun day, I just get competitive johnnyb- it's great up there in the winter, way quieter than the summer season -
cold morning, I was riding the sled over before the sun came up to secure the spot where the other guys caught big ones last year. Me and my Dad were 1st to the spot and spread out tip-ups and gear etc to mark out territory. The guys from last year showed up and crowded in on us from the one side. The guy was complaining his buddies didn't get up early enough so they could get the spot. They had about 16 people fishing. I marked only 4 fish all day, 3 didn't even stop to look at the minnow, the 1st one, around 9am tapped the minnow twice, moved off and hit the tip-up 50 feet down the shore. I felt it, set the hook, but the fish must have had the minnow by the tail, no hook -up, that was it for the day for us the guys beside us again won with a 2.8lbs and a 2.3lbs laker, 1st and second place 136 guys, 12 fish entered we got gift certificate prizes of $40 and $60, so that's not bad but a pretty disappointing day

NF Anyone ever use Property Guys??
chris.brock replied to Rustic-Fisher's topic in General Discussion
I think the real estate selling system is crazy, agents can make way too much for the amount of time and work they do (sorry to any agents out there), I know how hard I have to work for a dollar and it ticks me off to see them driving around in BMW's, talking like used car salesmen. With the internet and sites like Kijiji etc., I hope private sales will become more popular and some of these agents will have to do some real work for alot less gravy. -
anybody have a Minden/ Haliburton ice/ snow report?

heading up to Gull Lk this weekend, thanks in advance -
for people thinking of quiting, there's a book I've heard of that has a good success history, I've heard it doesn't scare smokers with grim statistics or pictures of black lungs etc, it just simply explains why you smoke and why you want another smoke, it's something generic like "Quit Smoking" the author is Car or Carr, I think his first name is Alan, check on amazon.ca if you're interested, I've heard quite a few people have quit with this book's help I'm pretty sure you have to be ready and want to give it up for this to work though, just like the patch or pills etc I enjoyed reading this thread, congrats to everyone who has quit, really inspiring to hear

I seem to agree with MM and not so much with Manitou, some spots I've found, and are notorious for this, just hold schools of small walleyes (we call them key-chains), it's fun getting the consistent action, but for all the time we've spent there, there hasn't been a larger fish to be found, fish shallow, fish the deepest channel, it doesn't seem to matter, if you find them it's fast action but all small guys
-
a very cool site, some easy access information, I've found some incorrect info on some lakes I'm familiar with but the stocking statistics are helpful,I've already found a bass lake I'm going to try to portage into next summer near my cottage
-
I've found that before too, spots where I can catch plenty of small walleye, while never catching anything larger, I would say accept the smaller fish and get consistent action, or move to another spot you like where the numbers are lower but you get the odd biggie at least you're getting action and fish
-
I know it's a personal confidence thing, but my favorite bait the last few laker ice seasons has been the mepps cyclops in pink glo, sometimes tipped with a piece of shiner caught my 2 biggest fish on a white tube though, both while slowly bringing it up to the hole, both fish hit mid depth

not sure if to head up there this weekend, anybody have a report on the conditions? thanks Chris
-
never heard of the place, I was curious so I found it on a map, close to hwy 129, on the east side, it's a pretty small lake, less than 5 km long without many bays/ islands I think those smaller Chapleau area lakes can be tough fishing when they are small and receive a fair bit of pressure check out Bisco too (if you haven't already), about the same distance driving, Grey Owl Camp, Ritchies End of Trail Camp, even better is Rays Camp on Ramsey (near Bisco)
-
I just got back from Minden area today, there was a couple small, stocked, year round open season lakes I was checking, hoping to get out on, no go, around an inch of ice+ slush+ snow, if guys were getting out in Miner's Bay, the season doesn't open until today so that doesn't make any sense it's going to be cold mid week, but then above seasonal after that, I think late January is what I'm hoping for

Just booked at Paquettes camp
chris.brock replied to michigander fisherman's topic in General Discussion
it's the place on the way to Happy Day/ Windermere never fished it but I'm not a big fan of those Chapleau area lakes, especially the smaller ones if your adventurous, look at a map, and continue into the logging roads past the camp to explore other lakes -
for the fishing, Eddies and Pym Island are far upstream from the reserve but that is a sad situation on the reserve, I agree with what the guy said "we send foreign aid all over the world, why is this happening in our own backyard?" (or something along those lines)

I was up there last weekend, I'm pretty sure Sludge won't be safe this weekend

the Golden Route Lodge on sideburned lake?
chris.brock replied to michigander fisherman's topic in General Discussion
I fished Sideburned for 1 day and camped there for the night, I caught 0 walleye (I was targetting them) and 2 small pike, it seems like one of those weird Chapleau area lakes that are either hard to figure out or there's just not many fish in it, the lodge is pretty close to the noisy hiway I do remember James Smedley (Ontario Out Of Doors) writing about Sideburned (fished with a local who knew some spots and techniques) and they did ok I'd look into Bisco Lk or Rays Camp on Ramsey Lk instead of these lakes
