the contour maps are free at the Minden MNR, the lady that gets the maps is usually pretty grumpy and makes it seem like it's a huge bother for her to find it though

A wake up call to the OFC community?
chris.brock replied to Bassaholic's topic in General Discussion
totally, like I said, if it's illegal, they should get whatever comes their way, a thread won't get locked down if the the topic is illegal activity, things get locked down when ethics within the law are discussed and other aspects pop up, like race or country of origin -
A wake up call to the OFC community?
chris.brock replied to Bassaholic's topic in General Discussion
I hear ya, I dropped the ball on the weekend though a cottage neighbors son (15 ish years old) has been fishing bass for the past few weekends, I mentioned it, half jokingly, half with the premise of don't get caught, I didn't feel like going into the righteous speech of "well, the male bass stays with the fry, and if he's pulled away from his duties........etc", now I'm thinking I should have said more, regardless of consequences everyone has their own view on fish and wildlife ethics, I guess nobody can really say anything unless it's against the law and illegal, at that point, the poacher should get whatever comes their way -
I'm guessing the flyrod won't be any good for the brookies or lakers in the summer, I'm assuming you won't have a sonar unit, try to find (guess-ti-mate) 40 to 70 feet of water and vertical jig just off bottom with a spoon for lakers

sort of on topic about live release mortality- this relates to a walleye (I know most tourneys are bass) last year I had a walleye on the stringer (I know that's a debate in itself), time to head back, 10 minute boat ride, 10 minute portage and another 10 minute boat ride, the fish was out of the water for at least 30 minutes, I hung the stringer off the dock while I got ready to clean it, another 30 minutes, I went to retrieve the fish and it was alive and feisty, we had plenty of food in the fridge and I had already had a few beers and didn't feel like filleting so I let it go

Toronto Sportsmen's show is moving again
chris.brock replied to kickingfrog's topic in General Discussion
that's cool, I like the Ex location better than where it was this year, one of the most memorable things I recall about the show, is walking outside at the Ex alot of years, and the suns out, it feels like spring and summer's around the corner -
Dusey Lake Outpost ~ Journey To A Brook Trout Zoo
chris.brock replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
another awesome report Solo, looks like brookie city up there on the Dusey he looks like a great outfitter, I like the no kill policy on the BTs, and plenty of water to explore I'm guessing you're going to be visiting Brad's Teabeau camp in the near future -
it's not a secret honeyhole, but the Massasauga PP or Moon River area has all species of fish, great landscape, and you can pick a boat-in campsite with a fairly remote feel, a little further up the hi-way, the French River has similar crown land camping/ fishing/ landscape
-
I don't think they have swim bladder problems, I've seen that with lakers and rockbass through the ice and the behaviour looks totally different in the youtube video, the gills are being dragged along the surface, maybe they can take in more oxygen by doing this? or, having their eyes or nostrils out of the water for awhile somehow helps them, an itchy air bubble in the nostril? a little parasite on the eye? good job finding that video JoshS
-
it's tough, typically the more effort required to get to the lake/ river, the better the fishing plus, alot of people won't give up information on their "honeyholes" anyway, how far do you want to drive and what species do you prefer?
-
Yeah, I would a guess a fish can't see when out of water, I'm pretty sure that even if they could see well above the surface, they couldn't comprehend what they see above the surface and relate it to where they are "oh, there's that yellow boathouse, I'll go see if there's any shiners hanging around there" the researcher that proposed the theory Roy posted, is in the wrong occupation
-
if you've got 3 days, it's a further drive, you're still in the park, Kiosk has good smallie fishing for a drive to, no portaging campground, quieter and a better vibe than the hwy 60 stuff
-
If you want all of those species, the French would fit the bill, less than 5 hours from GTA too, post your choices before you book because some sections of the French are definately better than others
-
wow, possibly the best fly-in you've done? should be a cool report, I've said it before, I'm going to say it again, you're a lucky guy, I'm jealous again
-
I know you're likely working on a full report, but give us a little hint on how Dusey went? I was watching the weather up there last week and it looked like you had great conditions. If you did go for some pike and walleye I bet they were on fire.
-
after watching it, I researched the actual history of the feud and the TV show was bang on, the sequence of events is almost exact and true, the length of time may seem abit distorted though (in reality, there were years of gaps without incidents between the 2 families, it all didn't happen in less than a year the way it appears on the show) very cool that they stuck to the facts, even more shocking is how people can be violent and set on revenge I thought it was bizzare that the head of each family, who could have likely ended the trouble early, lived the longest

How did you get down 50 feet flatlining?

Broke in my 2012 Yamaha 75 HP 4-Stroke
chris.brock replied to RangerGuy's topic in General Discussion
Only 4 mph difference between 1/2 throttle and full throttle, I'd be doing alot of cruising at 1/2 throttle to get around, probably save a ton of fuel with little loss of speed -
Who benefits from the pipeline? Yeah there's some temporary jobs constructing it, then the only Canadians it helps is the CEO's of TransCanada or Enbridge and their bonuses, I'm sick of this crap, the environment continues it's spiral down the toilet

no, 1500 isn't many for Kash, but I'm pretty sure the MNR stopped stocking fish in lakes with natural reproduction, the premise being that the stocked fish will interbreed with the natural fish making the population less fit
-
that's kind of sad, Kash once had a natural, self sustaining lake trout population, if the MNR is stocking, that means they consider the original population toast
-
I would guess he is studying to be a structural engineer looks pretty good
-
never been to the lake but we looked into it. I'd bet the fishing will be pretty good. there's lots of water (Kap, Melchett, and Tester), when we were thinking about going there, a group of US guys sent me some info on the lake and they were happy with it and seemed to do pretty well what I didn't like about the lake, once I drove my truck right into Durer Lk, from there, I could easily pull my boat up a small rapid into Melchett Solopaddler would likely have some input on this lake I still think the fishing will be good and they will be happy, there is probably some better choices for the drive distance and price though check Walleye Central message board, quite abit on there, search Kapikotongwa and Melchett (same system)

11 days is a pretty big window, I'd check out Nipigon, Bisco and the French will always be there

Yamaha F90 mechanical question..?
chris.brock replied to Pigeontroller's topic in General Discussion
Yamaha's the best to heck with the rest! 2 sleds, 2 outboards and 1 really geeky Yamaha scooter, I'm happy with them all
