  1. I've fished some of the lakes they promote, Winderemere, Nagasin, and Borden and didn't think much of any of them, Winderemere is big and scenic but fishing was disappointing
  2. awesome trip, alot of us are jealous
  3. yeah, supposedly a private pond above Kushog introduced them (pike)into Kushog and they are well established now Kushog is close to Boshkung, which leads to 12 Mile, Mountain, Horseshoe, Gull etc the pike have invaded the Trent from the North now it seems like just another example of how people mess up the original ecosystem
  4. I BBQ 6 out of 7 dinners a week when I'm not working nights (all season), I just like being outside with an excuse, the BBQ is over 3 years old so it has some high hours on it, but I don't like to spend money on things like that Hey Mercman, it's a Centro from CT, it has 3 burners shooting flames right now hint, hint
  5. I'm too cheap to spend the $90 to get replacement parts, the burners have holes about the size of a dime, is there any danger of an explosion or fire? I've been just avoiding the hot spots while cooking, it's a natural gas thanks
  6. nice pic, that's great that you put it back too, very cool
  7. I'm looking forward to this report, should be a goody as usual
  8. Up in Haliburton, while bushwacking, in October last year, we found a similar old tomato plantation. I was thinking this August, I'd grab my tilley hat, binoculars and "Birds of Ontario" book (not to look suspicious) and wander back through there
  9. oh yeah, try casting 4 inch spoons for pike (you'll be surprised how many walleye you'll catch on the spoons too)
  10. I've been to Kesagami (same area) but not Nettogami. We never bring live bait on our fly-ins and never regret it. I'm pretty sure you will be fine with jigs/ twister tails. Maybe some worms for insurance, but minnows are high maintenance and high $.
  11. I'm not really big fan of fishing pike/ muskie from a canoe. If the water's warm, and valuable stuff is secure (in case of a dump), you should be ok. Sounds like good walleye fishing though, I've always wondered about that section around Radiant/ Plover Lake.
  12. In Haliburton, my neighbor called the Fire Dept. to warn them, took out all the bad stuff (insulation, plastic, shingles etc.), then set it ablaze, we couldn't get within 20 feet of it when it was on fire from the heat in the morning there wasn't much left, I don't know how environmentally friendly the whole process was though
  13. Dr. Salv. beat me to it by a few seconds
  14. I use this satellite imagery website to watch the ice go out in the spring http://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/modis/region_map.html I love it when I'm a guy heading to Nakina, because it means a great week of fishing
  15. Chessy, did you work for the MNR in Minden? If so, when?
  16. I like Chessy's idea, for a new laker fisherman, hopefully one of you guys has a decent sonar, cruise around in the boat first, I'd look at depths of 50 to 90 feet (even though spring is late), and look for fish just off bottom, when you think you have an area with some fish cruising around, vertical jig a spoon and send down a minnow (shiner) and split shot let us know how you do
  17. I know a guy at work who spends alot of time on the lake, I'll try and get him to sign on to the OFC and reply never fished it myself, but my Dad and his buddy fish only 1 spot, a small section of shoreline, and seem to do pretty good for walleye
  18. I'd like to read the report of that trip, Moosebunk versus Solopaddler, in the James Bay Watershed, in a head to head pike tournament that's far more interesting than the NHL Playoffs so far
  19. the playoffs are totally unpredictable, there's been a few crazy series, BOS/ MON, VAN/ CHI, ANA/ NASH, TB/ WASH St.Louis, Roloson and company look pretty good, can the Flyers do what they did last year and win 4 straight against Boston? I hope so, I don't like Chara and those Bruins
  20. I still wouldn't want to be booked for a lake, opening week north of Nakina/ Armstrong, anxiously watching forcasts and sattelite images like solopaddler said, the big rivers will be fine though and could be a post spawn, pike feeding frenzy
  21. it looks like a sunny, warm few days coming up for Nakina, should help melt some ice on Cordingly Lk
  22. I didn't get up there this year, did anybody brave the Park?
  23. what area do you fish? The lower Grand has lots of eager daytime biters, but up north they do seem to only come around at dusk and after dark, quite a few times at the French River, I thought I had a good walleye when it was a large catfish, always really late in the day
  24. yeah, you're lucky to live in an awesome place, we're jealous down here in the GTA
  25. For our yearly fly-in trip, we have one guy do all the food, planning meal by meal, it seems to avoid waste and on a fly in weight is limited, everybody pays their portion of the cost one afternoon at Costco can get most of it done
