  1. some lakes named for their shape, there's quite a few Elbow, Crooked, Boot and Horseshoe Lakes
  2. I thought he looked like he didn't really know what he was doing when he was on fish tv, anybody else get this impression?
  3. if you're cheap (like me), browse the rods at Can Tire, Wallymart, or wherever, look for a thin but stiff tip, "noodley" is no good, I originally put powerpro on my jigging rod because I thought it might reduce pike bite-offs, I keep powerpro on my jigging rod because it's waaaay more sensitive than mono
  4. if you look at a map, QEW- 427- 401- 400 is the most direct, I use this route alot, that time of day you'll be ok like Solo mentioned, I too would like to hear more about your Flindt Landing fishing trip. Sounds like the train is fun. What's the cost of the train? How much gear do they allow on the train?
  5. Never been there myself, but we do alot of research for our fly-in trips, I've heard good things about Rice walleye. It's a big lake with lots of islands/ bays, it once was a pike only lake and had walleye introduced 15 years ago (?). There are people (natives?) accessing the lake by ATV or 4wd truck from what I remember reading. I'd pick Rice over the Nemegosenda.
  6. Hey Dan I flew out on the plane you guys came in on. Glad to hear you had a great time and that the fish turned on. Eddies a great guy and that is an awesome place to be lucky enough to fish.
  7. early September is good for muskies if that's what you're after What section of the French?
  8. another great report Solo., looks like walleye city in there I agree about Martin and Parks Fly-in, awesome fishing and the cheapest prices, the drive is easier and prettier than Nakina. I just got back from Cam Lake/ Little Missinaibi with Parks, we had a great week, I'll post a report when I get a chance
  9. I was planning on overnighting there on my way through Friday, can't reserve anything online, anyone know what's up? Is it still operational? I need a drive to site. thanks
  10. "But to leave a bunch of tundra untouched in the middle of now where" yeah, but to get to that boggy wasteland, you need a road across the Albany and the Skat
  11. "You may have never been exposed to logging, mining or oil extraction but even if you sell widgets for a living," yeah, you're in T-Bay and I'm a city slicker, tree hugger in Jokeville like I said, I'm biased because I visit the area in jeopardy, but it's the same anywhere in Canada, jobs, economy, GDP versus preservation, we could argue forever but it can't be argued that we are on an unsustainble path I hope Canada will never be as developed as Europe and Asia, but we're losing one wildplace after another, losing one species after another if you're in a resource based job, hopefully you accept that you're at the mercy of the resource and the politics involved "We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors. We borrow it from our children."
  12. we either get smart now, or....... dig it all up, cut it all down and fish it all out and then try to get smart the planet needs this stuff like I need a hole in the head Moonias' reserve might have some garbage in their backyard, or some dicey septic systems but that can't compare to the environmental disaster big business resource extraction causes some ok, temporary jobs (CEO's win big) while the planet continues down the toilet
  13. looks like a rocket!
  14. We are already getting our cars, homes, grocery stores etc without the Ring of Fire. There's not many wild places left, hopefully they leave this one alone.
  15. welcome Luke, it's nice to hear how important family is to you, best wishes to you all
  16. Moonias, whose community of 300 people is 80 kilometres west of the Ring of Fire, has warned there will be a confrontation if a moratorium on development doesn’t occur. He wants a rigorous environmental assessment done on the effects of the mine on the Attawapiskat and Albany River watersheds. “I would put my life on the line. When the government told me they made an agreement with Cliffs to develop the Ring of Fire and build a road, I said if they want to cross the (Attawapiskat) river, they’ll have to kill me first,” Moonias told the Star
  17. We rented an outpost cabin on Partridge Lk with access to Kesagami Lk from Ron Baron of Gardiner Air. The cabin had 2 obvious cameras, 1 inside, 1 outside, we were pretty sure they weren't functional and were just there as a deterent, but who knows, Ron was pretty particular about his stuff
  18. bald, kinda stocky guy?
  19. never been myself, but I've heard it would be good to try Radiant and Plover for walleye.
  20. I'd say that stretch of river is best for muskie, in early September, the bass and walleye can be tough (especially the walleye) it's pretty safe going up Cedar rapids in normal water levels, it's more of a chute than a rapid, you can only go for a couple hundred meters before an impassable rapid though, there is walleye between Cedar and the next rapid up-river
  21. you obviously know what you're doing, try all the weights to the outside, and the lure drop adjustment you were doing, if there's still problems, something might be wrong with that reel, I have a Curado, very forgiving and easy to use, I love that reel
  22. Cedar rapids is the end of the line heading up river, just pass Ash Bay. I've spent alot of time on that section, don't worry about hitting rocks, stay off shore abit and you'll be fine, it's nothing like Hartley Bay or some other sections
  23. where are you staying?
