It's hard for us to judge. You know the dog the best. I'd say use your judgement. I'm abit of an animal lover/ tree hugger myself, labs are usually great family dogs, don't do anything rash.

I just got my PAL, I'm looking for a reliable, all purpose shotgun. I was thinking a Remington Nitro Mag. I'm not sure what I'll be doing hunting wise, so I'd like to keep my options open. I like the 28" barrel, Rem chokes and 3.5" chamber. I can also buy a rifled slug barrel. any advice/ opinions would be appreciated.

There are 2 lakes in the Chapleau area I'm familiar with that had walleye introduced after being only pike lakes. The walleye fishing was great after 3 or 4 years. I don't think these lakes are going to be "fish factories" forever. It takes a quite few years for the aquatic community to reach a ballance. With the invasion of zeebs, things still haven't ballanced. MuskyMike said he thinks the zebra mussles have thinned out abit since first getting established in his area. I think it's too early to judge the affects of zebra mussles, throw in other factors like fishing pressure, climate change, polution etc., and who knows what's really going on. Still, invasive species are bad.

Often when a fish community undergoes a major change (like the intro of zebra mussles)some species will do well in the short term but their populations may not keep up at those levels. I think you need 10 to 15 years to see how the fishery is affected after the change. Enjoy the good fishing, that's cool you're doing well. I still think all invasive species are bad for the long term. Once they are established, they are probably there for ever and we couldn't remove them even if we wanted to.

there's a guy I know on Gull Lake that keeps track of weather stuff for the last 25 years or so, the ice out this year smashed the 2010 record by 11 days!

They stock lakers on Maple and Beech. Pine, Grass and Green have bass and muskies and I think they have been stocking some walleye but I don't know how they are doing. You can get through these lakes with a small boat. In some water levels, or with abit of work and a small boat you can get into Boshkung then to Little Boshkung and 12 Mile. Good natural lakers on Boshkung. It's a little busy in the summer there, but a nice, cute little community around Stanhope.

rainbows eh, from the inflow in Sandy Bay or the outflow by Moores Falls? I'm guessing Sandy Bay.

Davis Lk once had a naturally reproducing lake trout population but I haven't heard about anyone fishing for them. In May, I guess you could try for lakers in Davis, or nearby, splake in Buller, rainbows in Cedar or lakers in Gull. There's some brookies in Crego creek too.

I was just up in Haliburton, a little south of Algonquin but with similiar altitude, I think the ice-out is going to beat 2010, with the warm weather it could be gone by next weekend

I went today (Thursday), I didn't like driving to/ parking at at the new venue. It's the same stuff, if you've got the time and are looking for something to do, it's ok I don't know if the attendance is low or the new venue is larger, but it seemed alot less crowded today (that's a good thing)

I was canoeing down a remote river, we dumped the canoe and lost it down a nasty rapid filled gorge. Way too far to walk out (no roads), we had to sattelite message for help. We were flown out by helicopter. When they pick you up they don't mention fines or the potential for fines, they just get you out and safe. The OPP later asked us questions about our experience, how much we were drinking, smoking any dope, our equipment etc., I'm guessing to see if we were competent. I guess they deemed us competent, and the wrecked canoe was just back luck, and the trip out was no charge for us. I'm glad these guys are safe, I think they should cover the bill though. It is good to know, if you do need help, there's people and equipment to help you.

oh yeah, I'm sure the Brace Lk outfitter will give you maps/ spots/ advice etc., but if you're into it, get a copy of "Northern Ontario Fishing Guide" by Hines, Herringer and Jensen (I've seen it at Lebarons), good reading and they have a map with spots and report for Ara/ Meta/ Brace, it'll get you really pumped up

Our group flys in from Nakina yearly to different lakes (we haven't done Ara/ Meta though, but most are pretty similar). My fly in tackle box has gotten pretty simple -lots of jigs (twister tails) for the walleye -spoons, 4-6 inches long (you may not think much about spoons but they really work up there, big pike on average sized spoons, lots of walleye on the spoon also) -some minnow baits (husky jerk, wally diver to get a little deeper etc) I wouldn't bother with the big baits 1st trip is going to blow you away, it'll be a blast, give us a report when you get back

Berger and Terry "Canoe Atlas of the Little North", it's pricey but an awesome reference book (I keep it in the bathroom so I can skim through it while I have some time sitting there) they don't say much more than that about the haunted stuff looks like 7 Lakes Outposts, I bet there isn't alot of parties going in there I'll say it again, you're a lucky guy, looking forward to the report on that one

the Dusey eh? that sounds awesome, is it a decent river? Are you paddling out to the Albany? The book I have says locals say the Dusey downstream of Dusey Lake is haunted (if you're into that kinda stuff)

I've been twice with Aaron Shirely, I'm not sure if he's still doing it, you can contact him here on this board, we were outfishing all the other boats in the crowded drifts, that guy puts fish in the boat!

I was at a Leafs game in Tampa against the Lightning, there was about equal Leafs/ Bolts jerseys, but the Leaf fans were louder (not like the suits sitting on their hands in the ACC), it was pretty cool

Alot of guys at work seem to have choosen to be fans of teams that consistantly do well, I don't get it really, we don't get many RedWing's games on TV over here, at least Musky Matt now lives in Ottawa so that makes sense

Previously, I would get randomly selected vacation weeks at work, a few years ago I got the last week in April, and headed into the Park for a week of paddling/ fishing, I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who can go, a very cool time of the year to be outside and fishing
