  1. still looks like a great trip, there's alot of places for more walleye for that kind of money and that drive, post if you want some places to go
  2. the pic looks good, the guy on the right's shirt and hat, not so good
  3. well put danc there was a lady interviewed on the 6pm news about the Burlington bear, she seemed to think that if she was walking her dog, and had come across this bear, the bear would have for sure charged, attacked and ripped her limb from limb
  4. I'd say you did pretty well getting one decent fish in that short time and windy conditions on Balsam, nice job
  5. that would take way too much effort, also, the Halton Regional Tactical Team don't see much action, they want to bring the big guns out and shoot something, they look great, way to go guys! I think the younger males can pretty well wander aimlesly, I don't think central Burlington looks like a great place to forage or find a mate so likely the bear wouldn't try to return
  6. 6 nations is taking the dead bear here's a solution- if we exterminate everything with even the slightest potential of danger, we wouldn't have problems like this
  7. yeah, that makes sense, uncharted territory trips can sometimes be tough, a partner can help I have a SPOT satellite messenger thing for a safety net, it got us out of a jam once too
  8. I'm definately not an expert, but if it doesn't burn much oil, I wouldn't worry about it, it makes sense the lower cylinder might be bathing in oil a little more than the others, and hey, it's a Yamaha, they are typically reliable
  9. ditto on the mountain lion (cougar) pics, or even the stories would be cool
  10. I don't know how you do it Solo, you don't seem to sit still for too long, I'm looking forward to the trip report when you get back. Pretty dicey adding a partner you likely won't have met before, trips like that you will be pretty well attached at the hip for 4 days or so.
  11. I've got a cottage on Gull. You could try it for lakers, I caught 1 today. Surface temp was 55-60, the fish I caught was 80 feet down, verticle jigging. I'd try Clear where your buddies cottage is, for splake, they stock alot of them in there for the size of the lake. Try to mark some fish on your sonar, look 40 to 90 feet of water and verticle jig for them. There's also alot of ciscos in Clear. Driving for walleye- Kash (north), Balsam or Head (Kawarthas) are all pretty tough fishing if you don't know the lake.
  12. I always want a campfire every evening. It doesn't seem right without one. If it's raining, or has rained alot, you'll need to cut and split wood. A light, compact, bow saw and small axe (even a large buck knife can be hammered with a rock through a cut log instead of an axe). also- leatherman - LED headlight - extra fishing line
  13. maybe so, but here I would have to say, this is Canada, we catch and release, and it's vital to sustaining some fisheries, if you don't like it....................
  14. that's cool that you caught it and released it, nice fish too, I was just making the point that people have different opinions on fish and wildlife ethics, I'm sure some people noticed your avatar (there's quite a few muskie guys on here) and thought "damn, that fish should have been released", even though you could have legally kept it, and actually did release it
  15. it's tough, everyone has their own ideals, who's to say what's right or wrong, just as an example, Don'tcryformejan... has a muskie at the dock (likely kept, or looks alot like it was kept) in his avatar, a few people on this board wouldn't think very highly of that (no offence don'tcryfor..) I know guys who fish bass tourneys and are very offended at anyone keeping bass for table fare, everyone has their own opinion, if nobody is breaking the regs., we really can't say anything
  16. could you explain this for us that aren't familiar with what you're talking about
  17. Everybody has their own moral opinions on how to respect and harvest our natural resources. I'm a little closer to the "tree hugger" side, like it or not, if someone is breaking the law (too many fish, over limit etc.), that's definately wrong the gov't is cutting everything, so more COs isn't likely going to happen
  18. I agree, Martin River can be tough and it's a little more than a 5 hour drive from the Hammer.
  19. they have them at Lebarons, in stock on a shelf, at the Mississauga store
  20. ok, thanks guys, I'll probably stop in quickly at Tromblay's in Orrilia to see if they have an improved choke for that gun, if not, I'll just use the skeet II I was surprised that Remington didn't include any info on chokes and ammo with the gun
  21. I was planning on taking a few shots this weekend. I don't care right now about performance, just damage to the gun or me. Is the skeet II tighter than a regular skeet?
  22. I bought a 12 gauge, smooth barrel, remington shotgun. I want to get familiar with it and try firing some slugs. The gun came with an extended full choke. I went to Lebarons and asked for a choke and some suitable slugs. The guy gave me a "skeet II" choke. From what I have found online, that choke is between a modified and an improved. I would think an improved or cylinder choke would be the best. Did the guy screw up? Is it safe for me and the gun to shoot slugs and buckshot through that choke?
  23. that's cool, drive to also, if I'm not mistaken, should be an awesome trip, give us a report when you get back
  24. just curious, what lake are you going to, Abamasagi?
  25. the planet has existed for millions of years, in the last 200 years, we as smart people, have cut down and paved everything we can, we burn everything we can for heat, transportation and recreation, and we continue to exhaust any resource available, breed like rabbits and urbanize the planet something has to give the planet and the environment is a "common property resource" which means it belongs to everyone on it, it's like owning a cottage on a lake, why should I practise sustainable harvest and catch and release on my lake if all my neighbors on the lake are keeping every fish they catch
