late season, cold weather bassin' report w/ pics
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
no, I didn't use the rock throwing technique, I could have because there was nobody around though it did happen, the ATV wheelied and I fell off the back, covered my head waiting for it to land on me, I finally looked up and it had stayed vertical, we then staged the last pic, hahaha thanks FF for sure, it looks like it won't be long until the bravo will be the mode of transportation thanks, not a spectacular day but more fun than putting around the cottage for sure, glad we went good fun but no fish -
MCI Insiders - someone have the pic of the anglers 59x34?

interesting story, where do these guys usually fish? St Lawrence R ? -
if you decide to try the Canadian Tire or Wally GMRS radios, we found the Motorolas to better and more durable than GE's or Cobras etc I think they claim 56 km range (a total joke)

UBfishin gave me some cold water, late season bassin' tips so I loaded up the 4 wheeler and headed into the bush. I grumped at my wife in the summer for getting hung up on this rock twice, once on the trip in, then again on the way out, today was my turn Damn!, stuck again, I broke a sweat while trying to get the bike out, not a good idea on a cold day I knew Cam was about a 1/2 hour behind me with a winch and a cable so no worries lots of water in the creeks and ponds, the lakes in Haliburton are at record levels for this time of the year A beautiful day for fishing, the camera froze and didn't work during the period of time when we caught all the 4 to 6 pounders (Hahaha) the only thing worse than warm beer is frozen solid beer there's a tree blown down over the trail "no problem, don't bother with you bow saw Cam, I'll just bush crash around it" Man Down!

buying new snowmobile. opinions please!
chris.brock replied to Lunkerhunter's topic in General Discussion
my brother has a 2010 Phazer (similar, same engine), I've ridden it a fair bit, I think it's great, if I were buying a new 4 stroke that would likely be the one, -
great report, that's cool that you braved the October weather looks like a Curado that fell in, maybe bring a mask and snorkel if you go back this summer
-
looks like a great way to spend the day, nice splake, you can see it's brookie heritage, I think I recognize the lake, if it's the one I think, it's a gem

traffic on the 400 is mostly people from the GTA, it's definitely a different crowd than the people living in northern Ontario, they are more detached from where their food comes from but that's life in the city I don't like the actual killing of anything, I throw bugs out the door, and try to help injured birds etc, I harvest fish and game because I eat meat, not to show off or to try and provide some shock value on the 400 I don't think it's cool driving around with a dead deer on the roof in the GTA, it doesn't bother me, but everyone's different and I respect that

typically, the more difficult it is to access the lake, the better the fishing

Rob Ford being grilled this morning by TO city council
chris.brock replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
a kind of interesting tidbit- a co-worker of mine was at the Leaf game a few weeks ago, he saw Rob Ford in the Hot Stove, Rob downed 3 pints in the first intermission (15 minutes), I guess he was pretty thirsty -

Mayor Ford likes to come down hard on TTC employees and other TO workers for sleeping on the job, texting on the job etc., Why doesn't he fire himself for being drunk on the job, stoned on the job, lying on the job, wasting time with prostitutes on the job, making racist comments on the job, coaching football on the job, etc, etc? I guess it's "Do as I say, not as I do" He is a unique character, that's for sure, I think some of his backers are swooned by the daily soap opera and his resilience hopefully Karen Stintz gets the job soon, just for the reason that I like looking at her picture in the paper -
just walk gingerly NAW, and don't jump around too much, you should be good to go (Hahaha)
-
lakers or splake? definitely nice country up there, looks like more fun to me rather than fishing shoulder to shoulder down here I'm guessing the ponds might get a skim of ice in the next couple days up there PM me if you're ever looking for company to hit some back lakes

Saturday eve/ night walleye report, no pictures
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
yes it does Roy (Hahaha) Hilarious, OFC continues to amaze me, nice to meet you guys last night, lets keep the name of the lake in our pocket though, there's enough guys out there, what were you guys thinking, "look at this redneck cruising around in the dark"? Hahaha -
no pictures, it was too cold and rainy to bother to get the camera out nice time of the year, I only saw one other boat on a popular lake, I over-dressed and was fine in the cold drizzle, I caught 4, 2 were decent but the regs say they had to go back, so they did it's just a fish story but it was a highlight for me, trolling (mono line), it felt like my crank bait imbedded itself into a wall of weeds, put the motor in neutral, and began to pull the clump of weeds slowly towards the boat, after a few seconds I felt big, slow head shakes, I didn't have the sense to set the hook, continued reeling, then gone, urgghh, water was 43 degrees and this fish just sat like a log if "if's" and "but's" were chocolates and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas

I remember reading a previous post about this, I remember thinking "wow, some great tips", I can't remember what the tips were and can't find the old post anyways, storing a sled for the summer or a boat for the winter, what are some good things to stash in there to keep deer mice and other stuff out? moth balls? thanks, Chris

walking through the bush, 1 in the chamber, your eyes are looking for the prey and not where you're walking, and you trip I think it was last year a grouse hunter shot himself in the head and died, sad story

Some history findings for the MAPLE SYRUP GUYS
chris.brock replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
The trees look a lot bigger in Bernie's picture, I guess it's "pave paradise and put up a parking lot", and buy your maple syrup at Walmart -
I don't know, this might be more of "shaking hands and kissing babies", Rob has also made derogatory and racially charged comments about the youth in TO including his football team One could argue the economy lost some decent jobs with contracting out of garbage collection, now the only people that prosper are those CEOs at the top of the companies doing the collecting, all the rest get minimum wage wearing your heart on your sleeve is great, but I wouldn't trust him as far as I can throw him (and I couldn't even lift him)

any time you're in the neighborhood, stop by, Hahaha no, that was on a simple 3 way rig and a good sized live sucker minnow, it's hard to explain but there was too many people around to try the secret weapon, next weekend for sure I didn't weigh or measure it, I should have though in the picture I'm hiding my hands, I would guess it was 5 to 6 lbs

yeah, it's coming, I love all the seasons I wish I had some time off work to enjoy to enjoy the late fall, who knows, I can throw my back out picking up a quarter off the side walk
-
I enjoyed it, very cool
