like Shasta said, I wouldn't bother with Cootes, unless you know a spot that's a deeper hole trying around the high level bridge or Valley Inn Rd sounds like a better plan, these are current areas though so be super careful let us know how you do, if you go

How does cold affect fish when ice fishing?
chris.brock replied to limeyangler's topic in General Discussion
yeah, that's what I was thinking, it doesn't make sense were the lakes you were surveying shallower, mesotrophic lakes? I'm going to try to dig up my old limnology book later the bad news about all of this, is now to go ice fishing, besides our graph, we also need a temperature probe and dissolved oxygen meter, Hahaha -

last winter, ice fishing, while using a friends aqua view, it had a temperature reading accessory, the water at the hole was around 32 degrees (obviously), surprisingly to me, the temp at 55' was 52 degrees, I found this interesting, I had thought the water was going to be a fairly uniform temperature -

size of minnows for simcoe lakers and whitefish
chris.brock replied to redpearl99's topic in General Discussion
Wouldn't a tip-up with a single hook and minnow below a split shot be more natural and sensitive to bites rather than a dropshot set up? I can see the advantages of dropshotting from a drifting boat, but ice fishing you're not moving at all and totally vertical never tried it, just curious -
Thanks for making few holes for me and my sons

when I'm up north or in outdoor situations, people seem friendlier and conversations are better funny, I was sledding to my hut this weekend, some walk on guys were packed up and ready to head off the lake, they were walking while towing a portable hut and sleigh with all their gear through a foot of snow, I stopped about 200 yds away, thinking "should I go over and offer to tow their stuff in and give them a ride in?" I really wanted to help, I'm not in a hurry. I just continued towards my hut. Why- because I thought they would think I was trying to steal stuff (I guess I've spent too much time in the city???) good story Rodelu -

some recent ice pics and an odd story
chris.brock replied to chris.brock's topic in General Discussion
yeah, coleman style 2 burner, the burners are fairly far apart, there was some air drafting in because he hadn't yet piled snow along the bottom of the hut, I'll try to get a picture of the damage up later -
you definitely know how to put fish on the ice and in the boat Greg! feel free to PM me the name of those hot lakes (Hahaha)

I filled the tank with water first here's a pic showing the pipe -
took the "slush buggy" out to the hut I planned on staying past dark to see if the ling would cooperate so I lit the red neck woodstove a couple lakers before dark a ciscoe too all fish released playing video games like Brian after dark, I had fish regularly chasing the glo spoon, with minimal contact, I'm assuming these were ling, I tried a live minnow too but no takers any ideas or input? I guess they could have just been not very active? they totally stopped coming around about 1.5 hours after dark, and I didn't mark a single fish interesting story- A cottage neighbor puts his hut out last weekend, lights his stove to warm the place, locks the door and goes to town for minnows. He had a 2 burner stove, he assumes 1 burner was lit, the other burner was on but not lit, just spewing propane. BOOM! Somebody heard the blast and saw the fire, they assumed someone was in there, the OPP and the CO soon showed up I was hoping to get a picture for you guys but he brought whats left of the hut home to see if he can repair it
