  1. Congrats Darcy. If you need ideas of what to carve: http://www.tacklemaking.com/default.php?pageID=49 http://www.jerksnedkeren.dk/15298989 http://pikewallis.blogspot.com/
  2. I want to tie a few 6-8" perch flies with a 4/0 5/0 hook Some thing like this with a large size profile http://www.uksaltwaterflies.com/acatalog/a...gbunkerfly.html The material in question is "Moss hair body" material. http://i.imgur.com/lXAJa.jpg Can I use moss hair or will it be too stiff to create a lifelike undulating body in the water. Like this: Should I be using "Angel Hair/silk" type hack instead? Edit: I've been doing more "homework" about the materials and I've found out the Moss hair above probably is not hydrophobic and the angel hair is not really meant to hold a large vertical shape for a Puglisi type fly although you can use the angel hair to highlight the fly. Right now I'm researching between Enrico Puglisi EP Fibers VS Congo hair. Yes Ep would be my first choice but its more than 3X the price of congo hair on the upside I was reading a fishing post and it ended with "P.S. The wife was at work when the package was delivered. " ,which made me chuckle heartily. Edit2: Found nice detailed HD videos for a EP Bait Fish variant (really awesome) http://flyartstudio.com/wordpress/?p=634
  3. Sure you can find it in store but the ASP is a grey item. I can go downtown and buy brass knuckles (prohibited) even seen them in store windows in the past. Since its not a spring loaded baton you can buy it legally, but many reputable security stores that sell batons ask for ID, security lic and proof you took the baton course or they won't sell you it. The baton you have is not prohibited because its not spring loaded, so they can sell it legally. "13. The device commonly known as a “Kiyoga Baton” or “Steel Cobra” and any similar device consisting of a manually triggered telescoping spring-loaded steel whip terminated in a heavy calibre striking tip." http://www.canlii.org/en/ca/laws/regu/sor-...sor-98-462.html BUT all it takes is a person seeing you with it (while walking your dog), who calls the cops and you can get yourself in trouble quickly. For example: If the police want to they can charge you with carrying a concealed weapon. Now you may go to court and get acquitted but you would have spent your time and money with a lawyer if you aren't one. Because you live far away from Toronto and the many crazy people we have here probably those you see while walking your dog and know you wouldn't bother you, knowing you carry a baton. I'd bet the local police would not even bother you about it. But sometimes all it takes is a cop in bad mood to find yourself arrested then the'll just drop the charges later after you've been stressing out for a few weeks. Yes I carried a baton only after taking the baton course and only during work. We were told if you pull that baton out at work for example to threaten teenagers to leave (bad idea), you would be charged with assault. If it was totally OK, many people would be caring a baton, although many people (esp homeless) find a knife to be more practical to carry around.
  4. Nice to hear you're having a great time. Weather must be awesome and that fresh sea air must be refreshing too. I have no clue how to fix you reel so I can only offer my thoughts. Did you ask around and see if there is a reel repair shop (d they have a yellow pages there at the hotel?) or perhaps a local fisherman who is knowledgeable and owns similar reels? Maybe you can trade him a lure for a quick repair. Did you check the parts for any physical damage and are you absolutely sure all the parts went back into the reel in the correct locations? Since you have internet access: Did you google for reel take apart articles with pictures example take downs of other reels: http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/shimano/...00-rebuild.html http://www.reelschematic.com/content/view/348/28/ an old 250 schematic: http://fish.shimano.com/media/fishing/SAC/...69830641849.pdf Hope someone with baitcasting repair skill chimes in so you get it fixed quickly and catch some nice fish.
  5. I feel kind of bad now because I heard it was a puppy that was snacked upon. I wonder if there would be a market for synthetic porcupine quill suits for dogs, or dog armor. or maybe owners could make this: Surely a coyote would think twice trying to take on a Cerberus pup from the fiery depths of hell!
  6. It might show up here in the next few days http://toronto.flyerland.ca/bass-pro-shops/110/flyer/17250
  7. Yes it is your duty as a proud Canadian and imo should do your duty and serve in a jury. Unfortunately jury duty may seem like a punishment to many hard working Canadians because you have to put your life on hold while those who weaseled out with fake excuses get to go on with their lives. Some of your family members (children especially) will be drastically effected if they depend on you for rides, cooking, cleaning, helping with homework, etc and you are not there. Not to mention your boss might think you are trying to take a holiday from work and will have to find a replacement worker for you for the weeks you are away. That temp worker may make mistakes and might not be as efficient as you are. When you get back to work after the trial you may find a mountain of work and many screw ups that the temp worker did, boss won't be in a good mood either. These were my observations recently of a family member who was a juror at a murder trial. She had to rely on the spouse (who already works 12 hr shifts) to do her workload. She was gone everyday to trial 9-5 mostly unless the judge decided to go golfing, then she had to go to work at her real job for that day. Trial lasted 4 weeks and ended in deadlock She needed counseling afterward because of the graphic evidence. The last few days (4 days), she spent in a hotel not allowed to talk to anyone except jurors. The trial motions, arguing jurors, and stupid hounding news reporters put much emotional stress on her too. If you get a short trial (1 week) then consider yourself lucky compared to those away from work for a month.
  8. 9.9 HP? You're gonna need at least 100Hp for a 12 foot, probably 120Hp if you have a fishing buddy.
  9. I prefer a double ferule because its less likely to srew up the crimping and I melt the flouro end until it bulbs before crimping just for added pull trough prevention.
  10. Wire kept kinking on me usually after a pike or two and I could not straighten it out. Tried the titanium wire for a bit but it is so expensive and even that snapped on me! Tried flouro 80-100 leader eg Yo Zuri HD pink for swimbaits and all is well. Stiffer 150lb flouro works better with jerkbaits and walk the dog type lures. Pike, especially the snot rockets can cut heavy braid 50lb+ easily I was surprised to learn firsthand. I'm just making my own leaders now because its cheaper and I can make my own lengths. If theres any nicks in the line, I just cut and add a ferule. You can use a coil (metal or plastic) on the loop to drastically reduce wear at the lure end, but it did seem to impede the lure action imo.
  11. Well its two clicks away from this page. Click where it says "Links" in the brown bar above. Then half way down that page you'll see a link called "OFC Apparel Hats, T-shirts and Ontario Fishing Jackets". That page needs to be updated with a link called "Roys silky bedsheets"

  13. You guys are hardcore with all that snow on the boat, but it sure did pay off. Really great pictures you shared. Amazing size and colour on those beauties. Great job!
  14. I've got to check fishing reg just in case, but looks legal to me. Looks like great action in this video http://www.rattletrapramblings.com/?p=1126 Looks like a winner for pike and bass. Can't wait to try it. Thanks for sharing the info.
  15. Hamburger and cheese (likely cheddar) laced with bacon. The limbs and head are pork wieners. I don't plan on trying it, think I would die. Same thing with McDonalds food Dam, now I'm hungry. Wish I had some pilsbury dough and cocktail wieners with melted cheddar right about now.
  16. Well I was going to post the recipe for bacon turtles lol but I don't want you people to get a coronary before bass season opens: So, I love grilled chicken anything especially with lemon/lime. Here is Grilled Chicken and Vegetable Fajitas Pics here: http://www.mykitchenaddiction.com/2009/08/...etable-fajitas/ "Grilled Chicken and Vegetable Fajitas * 1 packet Amazing Taste Fajita Seasoning * 1 pound chicken breast tenders * 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, divided * 2 small bell peppers, cut into 2 inch slices (I had one green and one purple from the garden) * 1 small yellow squash, cut in half lengthwise an then sliced * 1 small onion, sliced * 4 ounces baby portabella mushrooms, sliced * 1/2 lime * Flour tortillas * Fresh salsa (optional) * Sour cream (optional) * Fresh cilantro (optional) * Lime slices/wedges (optional) Preheat the grill to medium heat. Combine one tablespoon of the seasoning and one tablespoon of olive oil in a bowl. Add the chicken breast tenders and toss to coat with the seasoning and oil. Cover and refrigerate while preparing the vegetables. Slice all of the vegetables and place in a large bowl. Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil, the rest of the seasoning packet, and the juice from the lime half. Toss to evenly coat all of the vegetables. Transfer the vegetables to a grill basket and cook on the grill, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes. Meanwhile, cook the chicken on the grill, cooking for about 8-10 minutes, turning once. Transfer the vegetables to a platter, and top with the grilled chicken tenders. Garnish with fresh cilantro and lime slices, if desired. Serve immediately with flour tortillas, salsa, sour cream, and all of your favorite taco/fajita toppings!" 20. Chuck Norris's real first name is Carlos. CHuck facts are kind of old now. The rage these days is Epic Beard Man. Anyhow: Chuck Norris once visited the Virgin Islands. They are now The Islands. Chuck Norris once won a game of Connect Four in 3 moves.
  21. I'm not worried. Just got an email from a Nigerian price who promised to reward me handsomely $$$ if I forward him some money.
  22. I was wondering how microguides would work on spinning rods and the answer is here http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/bassmas...ea_micro-guides "Micro guide technology is also applicable to spinning rods, although only from about the mid-point to the tip. Longer casts aren't necessarily a benefit here, but increased smoothness, sensitivity, balance and weight reduction are."
