  1. Well I'm utterly lazy. I have extra mouse buttons for forward and back page, autopager addon for multipage threads (next page loads automagicly when I scroll down to the last post of the first page), mouse gestures, and smooth scroll addon so the text is not jumpy when scrolling (saves my eyes).
  2. hmm haven't use IE in ages, and my IE on any website just opens link in the same tab. A simple workaround is to hold the "ctrl" button while clicking on a link, then it will open the link in a new tab and keep your current web page from disappearing.
  3. Are you in firefox? If yes, in firefox click tools, options, click Tabs, set "open links that open in a new window as" to "new tab".
  4. I think eating a humber river sucker will put him right back in the hospital. Half joking 3 eyed suckers in the humber. I'd check the 2009 - 2010 Guide to Eating Ontario Sport Fish http://www.ene.gov.o...guide/index.php just to double check mercury and pcb level of those fish.
  5. The Humber is still pretty muddy and the water is high. Did not see anyone fishing at Etienne Brulé Park last week when the weather was warm.
  6. What is your budget? I'm in the market for one too. I read reviews online and checked youtube owner reviews. Seems to me that garmin is a good company to go for. Then I checked http://www.gpscentral.ca/products-handheld.html for the comparison charts. Then I downloaded Ibycus topo (free) and have played with the gamin maps charts too, just to get a feel of what I'll be looking at. For my budget and the features I want so far the best I've seen for myself is the http://www.gpscentral.ca/products/garmin/etrexventure-hc.html I saw it going cheaper on amazon.ca ($130)with free shipping but I'm holding off until I get closer to summer because prices should drop lower. I've been reading articles about android and other phones such as the iphone that just need software to be installed to make them into GPS unit and its impact on reducing sales of handheld gps units. Also the Canadian dollar should be going on par too instead of sitting at $0.96 on paypal. If I could afford it I would get a GPS that can take memory cards and floats. I would avoid getting a GPS that uses the serial interface because USB is much easier to work with as far as recognition and file transfer compared to USB.
  7. I've never tried just a straight retrieve. I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Its a floater and they make a popper version too. I just cast it near shore especially near Lilly pads. It does not make much of a splash. I let it sit there for 20 seconds then twitch it with the rod (not even reel it in at first unless there is lots of slack) and let it sit for 15 seconds and repeat. I've watched other bugs land in the water and thats what they generally do, so I just copy them.
  8. Good to try. I've had amazing success with a light tan/gold Rebel Crickhopper in the past for bass and panfish in shallow waters. Yeah you need light line (4lb) to cast them father than 10ft. Anything small like the bumblebee if it has a tight wiggle (pause and twitch retrieve) should be killer for catching fish.
  9. I'd reel it in. Sometimes the big fish I catch just play dead and are easier to reel in than the wild snot rockets. I've landed medium size pike (30") on ultralight 5'6" rod and 500 spool with 6lb (was fishing for perch with thill bobber). Sure the rod was bending like crazy but it just took longer to reel in. four year old little girl caught a 50 pound fish.
  10. I'd check ebay, and reel warranty centers such as Aikman’s Sporting Goods Repair 3010 Novar Rd. 11. This reminds me of the you tube video of a guy using hollow braid. He was putting the line between 2 vise like holders. Thought it was something to do with flyfishing. IS the hollow braid really expensive? IIRC he explained in the video that the flouro was held by the braid the same way a finger trap works.
  12. This is a really good week for outdoor running. Got to run in my shorts today. Weather will be beautiful the next few days. So sunny today with plenty of people with families out on the trails. Sad to see all the trees barren and flooded muddy water in the river. Hurry up summer.
  13. Awesome! Now I can use my bread gloves for scooping beans from a large bowl.
  14. http://www.torontosportshow.ca/index.php?id=90 They have $5 after 5 pm deal. Also save $2 buying online.
  15. Try to find a pattern that works and stick with it until you're not catching. The fish will be in different moods. Fan casting the area. Feathering the spinnerbait on landing (ok thats more a bass thing). Steady retrieve, slower deeper retrieve, burning it on top, pulsing it, jerking it side to side then letting it fall then retrieve. You can do so many variations. Mix it up and find what works for the day. Once I was reeling what I thought was fast, next cast I reeled even faster like a mad man and caught a pike. Usually I find I do best pulsing it, especially if its got marabou, making it look alive.
  16. Some of them look like shoe prints walking back and forth and they have melted.
  17. I was thrilled when I first heard the news a BPS was coming to Toronto. Anytime a new fishing store opens it gives me another place to shop. BPS just adds to the economy by employing more Canadians. Long live BPS. Irishfield, she reported you to the manager.
  18. I saw someone use a boga grip on a perch (lol city folk) . I got very comfortable using a puncture proof fishing glove on toothy friends last summer. It was easy to hold their mouth open with the glove to unhook them.
  19. Lindy glove for lip holding while the pike is in the water just to stop it from thrashing during hook removal (never lifting the pike vertically). Wish they would make the puncture proof material wrap all the way around the thumb though. We are going "exploring" lakes this summer hopefully, so I guess a venture Hc GPS will be my next must have item.
  20. Good stuff. The adopt a veteran program is particularly touching. http://www.ontarioveteranarchive.ca/Adopt.aspx
  21. Thanks TJ and all those contributing. Lots of good reading!
  22. Pike love booyah spinner baits in yellow chartreuse white with two willow blades but the wire is a bit thin for pike , so they do break on me after a few pike ( I was fishing and catching slabs of small mouth at the time). Another great option is the northam spinnerbaits http://www.northamfishing.com/index_files/Page4551.htm. edit: just noticed booyah also makes a bigger pike spinnerbait http://www.lurenet.com/productdetail.aspx?id=bypk12712 My suggestion is to look for thicker wire spinnerbaits thicker than .035. .045 is ok but .051 is much more durable but the trade off is loss of flexiblity in the wire so you can't do a good job at pulsing the bait to add action but you could go to bigger blades to make the wire flex more when you pulse. You probably already know what I'm going to say but I'll write it just in case you don't. Willow blades better when you want to show flash especially on bright sunny days and you are fishing clear water. Colorado blades give lots of thump underwater are harder to retrieve and turn slower. Better in murky water if you think the pike will have a hard time seeing it but may locate it better using its lateral line. R bend vs loop. I like r bends better for pulsing but looped end is more durable. I just put a piece of plastic tubing over the r bend to keep the snap in place. Proper pike spinners are mostly looped end for good reason.
  23. Happy birthday Chuck Norris He is 70 today. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/po...010/03/norris/1
  24. hey, lets not talk about flouro by making a thread called "Fluorocarbon Advantages" This thread makes perfect sense if you totally disregard logic. edit: Thread hijack! Just cause 2 demo is out and its soooo much fun http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c51eL5l9g6E&
