  1. If they ship by UPS you likely will get murdered by brokerage fee, but if the ship by USPS then Canada Post has a flat fee which is very low. Last time I checked Bass pro USA still uses UPS and the shipping fee was still fairly high. I wish we could order from Basspro USA for those prices and do free pickup at the VaughnMills Bass Pro.
  2. Were the hooks sticky sharp?
  3. Yeah I'm going to be chucking #7 and #10 double Colorado inline spinners, Bulldog type plastics up to 5oz. ALso would be trolling with those. btw thanks for answering so quickly. I might just upgrade to 80lb and beyond since the Flouro leaders I use are 80-130lb anyhow. I'll check the power pro this spring, tempted to try the berkley fireline braid with 8 threads vs power pro 4.
  4. I have a chance of getting a 8'6" XH rod which I'll rig up with 65lb braid. Wondering if XH is overkill for muskies and big pike? I don't want a broomstick. What are you other muskie guys using? Mostly heavy?
  5. Sorry to dig this up but this negative point is very important to future readers. This applies to the symetre and below rear drags, not the uber tri drag reels. If you compare the symetre rear vs front drag you'll also notice that since the drag washers are smaller on the rear drag it consequently can only apply a fraction of the max drag of the front drag symetre eg: http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/gl...symetre_rj.html SY4000RJ Max Drag (lbs) 6 <---rear drag http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/gl...Symetre_FI.html SY4000FJ Max Drag (lbs) 15 <---front drag Same thing with the spirex 9lb rear vs 20lb front drag respectively. I don't think this would have much effect if using mono or flouro because you are limited by the thickness of the line, but when using say 45lb braid with such a thin diameter, the rear drag model will have a tough time.
  6. Just the chance to get out in winter and listen to the fishing pros lecture live and give good tips and answer questions was worth the price of admission $14 (although I did get a free ticket ). Got a few deals on plastics, reels were also with no tax sale. I probably would have purchased one if I didn't already have a reel coming in the mail. It was a nice way to spend a winter day with my nephew. We both had a great time and learned more. edit: Only thing that started to bug me was the boating girls. hmmmm pretty girls but this is not the car show? Wonder what they're doing here? "DO you have your boating license?" "Yes I do thanks" Now repeat that about 7 times every time I walk past them and at their other location. 2hours later: "DO you have your boating license?" "Yes I do!" "Well what about him" "What about him?" "He needs a boating license too" "He's only eight!" As if I'm going to let an 8 year old drive a boat alone.
  7. Suggestion: Why don't we just have one Olympic thread then people can just keep adding posts to that instead of multiple threads for every Olympic update.
  8. This one??? http://www.ontariofishing.net/linkspages/Tackle/ edit: no problemo mike. Go luck on your next outing.

  10. ah ok. Here is a more realistic and relevant example "$4,500 In Fines For Illegal Lake Simcoe Herring And Perch A woman and two men from York Region were fined a total of $4,500 after pleading guilty to taking herring and an over-limit of perch from Lake Simcoe in addition to making false statements to a conservation officer. Nicola Pertosa and Saverio Zupo, both of Stouffville, and Angela Zupo, of Goodwood, were each fined $750 for taking herring during a closed season and $250 for having too many perch. They were also fined $500 for making a false statement to a conservation officer. On January 25, 2009, during a patrol of ice fishing activities on Lake Simcoe, Aurora District conservation officers checked the group who were fishing with conservation licences. The group claimed to have their legal limit of 75 perch, plus a lake trout. The officers discovered a total of 100 perch, as well as nine herring – a species that is closed to fishing on Lake Simcoe. Justice of the Peace Ronald Prestage heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Newmarket, on July 10, 2009. For further information on fishing regulations, please consult the 2008-2009 Recreational Fishing Regulations Summary, which is available from licence issuers or at ontario.ca/fishing. To report a natural resources violation, call 1-877-TIPS-MNR (847-7667) toll-free any time or contact your local ministry office during regular business hours. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477)." this pdf had some herring catch info in the lower right page 11 PDF
  11. I can't tell where you live but Toronto metro reference library might have a general Johnson manual for the 50's. I remember looking through books from the 20's. Their online search is down right now but heres the link anyhow. http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/ask_index.jsp FWIW you could buy the manual but i saw it listed for $70 lol.
  12. Might be of use to you. http://forums.iboats.com/Johnson-Outboards/1954 I'll keep looking, pretty sure fleabay might have a pdf. Found a tune up guide http://www.outboard-boat-motor-repair.com/...20Procedure.htm Found the owners manual 1954 Johnson 5.5 hp with minor specs on pg 5 http://rides.webshots.com/album/561495154SpbbDk
  13. Thought it would more likely be a leaking tub of Berkley gulp bait that alerted the police dogs.
  14. Writing a professional letter to the school principal from a concerned parent with regards to the teachers misinformation backed up with ministry facts will go a lot farther that approaching the teacher and telling her to shut up. btw Jesus was a carpenter, some of the Apostles were fishermen.
  15. I stand corrected, thanks irishfield: "A fishing line must not have more than four hooks attached. A hook includes a single-pointed or multiple-pointed hook on a common shaft but does not include a snagger or spring gaff. The number of hooks includes any single-pointed or multiple-pointed hooks that an assortment of lures are part of a lure." Also learned this: "It is illegal to use or possess lead fishing sinkers or jigs in Canada’s national parks and wildlife areas." http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/LetsF...L02_165347.html Anyhow I'd still check if 4 trebles is even worth it on that lure, trebles overlapping each other or killing the action due to weight.
  16. I think you might find long neck trebles if you are worried that the hooks won't cover enough area. Maybe the regs in your area are different so possibly allowed 4 trebles although I can't remember ever seeing a 4 treble inshore lure. If you haven't top coated it and are only allowed 3 trebles you could just remove the center 2 and put one in the middle. Anyhow since you are building from scratch you might be at the experimenting stage with regards to how it will run with different size trebles and if it needs any drilling and weight filling if it is not wobbling how you like it. 4 trebles might even kill the lure action.
  17. Looking Good! Are you really going to put 4 trebles on it? Thought the max allowed was 3 trebles.
  18. Just because someone passes a law does not make it right or smart. I don't expect a law that makes 'intent' illegal to catch on in the rest of Europe or the world. This law may not even last a year especially if they are killing every fish they catch. From the same article: “And demanding that people kill the fish they catch gives no thought to the conservation benefits from releasing them." Angling Codes of Conduct with regards to proper handling and releases can be found for practically any fish species caught by anglers in Switzerland and the rest of the world. The new Swiss law makes it obligatory for anglers to take lessons before being granted a fishing license. So there is absolutely no need for an outright ban on the release of fish in Switzerland.” EFTTA acting president, Pierangelo Zanetta, said: "EFTTA does not believe that forcing anglers to kill their catches is either good for nature or for recreational sport fishing - which makes a significant financial contribution to the EU economy. “Making the killing of fish obligatory will simply reduce fish population and, at the same time, run the risk of having a negative impact on sport fishing." "Anglers and the sport of angling invest time and money to improve water quality and create larger and healthier fish populations. We believe is it far better for the fish if the fisherman decides, according to the situation, whether to keep and eat the fish or to release it."
  19. Tell her the amount of "torture" that fishermen inflict on a fish when catching it is nothing compared to the magnitude of emotional "torture" women inflict on men during dating or even during marriage.
  20. Two words "Deuce Bigalow" j/k How's the construction industry in your area Worm Dangler? or take a security job for survival if you have too. That could lead to working with electrical security systems for buildings and homes as an installer. Hell I would go do the elevator 6 month course that Dan Bouck wrote about if I did not already have plans.
  21. Interesting, never thought of that line of work before. Do you have to be a mechanical/electrical engineer? or can a simple electronics technician do the work of installing/fixing the panels?
  22. People fishing without a license? People still do that? Thats just plain stupidity, wonder what the fine is and if they have to appear before a judge. edit: lol found this, don't know for what province: "Penalties for fishing without a license can be as high as $500,000 with a possible two year jail term for repeat offenders. "
  23. +1 Forces.ca browse through the trades section. Even if you did a five year contract you walk away with eduction+experience+money. That's my plan.
  24. That would be James IIRC. I really like his SOFT plastic lures, great quality for the price. I watched the video where he is jumping on the rod. The handle is cool because it unscrews. I wanted one, but a one piece 7'6" footer or longer turned me off because I have to trasport it . Don't know how good it is in the long run compared to other rods, but his price is right. If you are lucky you can get a good deal on one on FleaBay Tacklebooty. He was on a Michigan fishing forum Late 2009 selling some for really good prices, below what he normally sells for.
  25. Foam needs to die a slow painful death . Cork has a much better feeling or better yet I found using a thin tennis grip wrap is so comfortable after 10 hours of casting.
