65 years ago today....anniversary of D-day
Rattletrap2 replied to Rattletrap2's topic in General Discussion
I was shocked to learn today, that there are 4 provinces in Canada that DO NOT teach anything at all regarding history from this time period!!!! Even of the ones that do (and Ontario is one that does), it is at the discretion of the individual teachers and schools as to how detailed they get into it. I recall learning more about the fur trade, explorers, Jesuit Priests, and such from the 1600's than we were taught about world wars I and II. It really is appalling!!! I don't think there is anywhere else in the world that this type of situation could exist. -
Bowslayer, I actually have a brand new one still on the original card......just have no idea where it is!!! LOL Icould be here, or up North. I know this won't help you much in the here and now, but down the road when i find it.... I no longer have the motor, so it is of no use to me!

Yes, They have been over greased. It is as you said, very easy to do when you are pumping grease blindly into a bearing. Bearings should be re-packed by hand or if they are greased in place, it must b e done very carefully. I believe the idea of Bearing Buddies was to prevent a void from developing in the bearing housing that would allow water to enter. A uniform constant pressure developed by their spring would keep the bearing housing full. Unfortunately, we tend to over pressurize the Bearing Buddies and cause the rear seals to blow. Just replace the bearings and keep a spare set on hand.

Let's give thanks to honour the anniversary of so many lives lost to liberate Europe. The sacrifice these men made against such horrendous odds on that fateful day in Normandy, should never be forgotten.

Having a CO hassle these people is the last thing I would want to see! They live a simple life and should not be bothered. NOW, as for the one "redneck" buggy there with the automobile seats on a huge platform.....that there is a feat of engineering! LOL These folks would definitely be leaning towards "new order"! (Kinda bordering on "trailer trash"!!

Congratulations Justin! Nicely done as always!

Little Angler, I don't have any first hand experience in this area, but I had a student here a couple of months back that had made it to playing for the Carolina Hurricanes for about 10 years. He was now 34 years old and going through with his Refrigeration apprenticeship. This fellow had been smart with his money and has a nice home, nice cottage, and all the boats and other toys that go along with it. He is now learning a trade and should be able to sustain his lifestyle through that. The advice given already is sound. Follow your dreams, but have a back-up plan if it does not work out, or to fall back on when you get older. Good luck and keep at it!

Ultra-Lite Trouting - Brookies, Brownies and Silvery Surprises

Great report and an awesome mixed bag of Trout, MJL -
Paying $17 to launch and park does sound steep to me as well, but on the other hand, I have heard countless stories of vandalism and theft at some of the "public" launching areas on various lakes. I know for a fact that your tow vehicle is safe at Layzee Acres. For peace of mind and a good ramp, it might just be worth it.

Great report and some nice camera shots as well. Thanks for sharing!

Nice fish! Congrats on them all!

Sure is sad, but for the family, at least they have some closure to this horrible week. Thanks for the report. I was wondering what happened in this case.

Poor man's trout: Suckers any good for eating?
Rattletrap2 replied to Funkeh's topic in General Discussion
Funkeh, Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was talking about the small Drennan "Loafer" style float. The little Berkley trout worms ( in PINK) should be threaded once through the nose about a 1/4 inch into the worm and then leave your hook point exposed. Small tiny swivels are good if you want to attach a fluorocarbon leader to your main line. 6 lb main line should be okay if you drop to a 4lb leader. Perhaps your line is of poor quality or has been stored wrong? It should not break that easily. I tie my hooks on with a "Trilene knot". I think the baitholder style hook you are using may be too big. i would never have believed these artificial worms could be as good or better than live worms, but they are. Even the little chub go for them. -

Welcome to the board! I can't really help you with locations East of the city, but the suggestions to look at Google Satellite are probably a good place to start. Sounds like you already found one good spot with some real decent fish in it. As for techniques, maybe try this. Downsize your line to 4 or 6 lb. and try the Drennan clear plastic floats that attach to your line with small pieces of surgical tubing. Next add several BB2 sized split shot spaced out below the float. Downsize your hook as well to maybe a #10 or #12. I found using the small pink Berkley trout worms work very well. You can easily adjust the float to suit the section of water you are drifting. There are many good trout fishermen on this board that will most likely be able to teach us both a few things. I'm certainly no expert! Good luck! -
In order to stay under $350, you will most likely have to stick to a ready made cover from Costco, CTC, or Bass Pro shops. Custom fit will probably be around $500 to $800. I had mine made by Greg at Covers Unlimited in Brampton. He did a great job for $500, but it was about eight years ago. I unfortunately had to leave it out in the snow the winter before last and I had some damage from the weight of the snow. I took it back into Greg last Spring and even after all that time had passed, he made the repairs and didn't even want to charge me! The man does good work and really stands behind it.

Thanks GCD! Yes it is a very small stream and difficult to fish because of all the trees and brush in the water.

Very nice Chris! Imagine us both out chasing oily fish this week-end. Not such a big stretch for you.....but me on the other hand... I would love a shot at a Brown. This stream I'm on is actually the same one I fished back 20 some odd years ago. It held Browns and Rainbows then...so who knows? I guess these species all co-exist? I'm just about 20 miles further upstream now. Water levels went up huge overnight with all the rain.
