  1. Really cool Steve! Congratulations on the new arrival... and a genuine American citizen to boot! The chicken wing trade must really be suffering down there since you went all healthy on them? Keep up the good work in that department as well.
  2. Congratulations Folks! 27 years is certainly a milestone!
  3. Looks like the same situation as with the Chinese built ATV's and dirt bikes. They look good, last about a year, then there are no parts or dealers to repair them. If they truly want to break into the North American market, then they can set up proper dealer networks first like everyone else. Those ATV's were being sold through independent people like gas stations, individual retailers, etc. I think if someone is serious about selling these types of products, then they can fork out the millions required to stock a proper dealership. Shows a commitment to me. This MIGHT mean that they will still be in business when you need them.
  4. Beautiful fish tizfun! Hard to imagine something that size would live in such a small stream.
  5. Nice fish Bill! Looks like they really take on the colour of their surroundings? I'm sure they would be a bit darker in clear water would they not?
  6. Thanks Folks! Yes ben306, a Student of mine was telling me that these are all he uses for SteelHead and other trout fishing. I can't believe how great they actually worked! I had good success on using bright pink "Bubblegum" coloured senko baits on Bass as well. They look like NOTHING that actually swims in these waters! I tried a few casts with natural coloured worms, but no comparison to these.
  7. It has been a long time for a few things actually! I figure it has been something like 24 years since I have been Trout fishing....and almost as long (at least it feels that way!) since I posted a fishing report! LOL The last couple of years have been real busy while we tried to settle into this place, and I just haven't been able to get out fishing like I always have in the past. Since we bought our trailer back in 1986, I was always busy trying to get that place opened up in the spring and the boat ready, etc. Trout fishing just took a back seat to everything else. Forward to today, and we live right on a tributary of the Nottawasaga river. I had seen the little Speckled Trout quite a few times over the last two years, but never had a chance to throw a line at them. We pulled a couple of spunky Creek Chub out last summer, but otherwise nothing else. This morning, I woke up a little after 6 am, made a pot of coffee and set about getting a rod rigged up and hunted for about 20 minutes trying to find my waders! I headed down to the small bridge behind the house and rigged a float, several tiny split shot, and a #12 hook decorated with a Berkley Pink Trout worm. After only a couple of casts (man was I rusty!), the Chub started hitting straight away. All in all, I figure I easily landed about 15 or 20 of them. Got down to a bend in the small creek and Wow! This little Speckie came out to greet me! Fished along the creek till I came to a nice sized pool. Nothing but more Creek chub though. This little guy was typical. Started heading towards home and managed another small trout. Tossed a new worm in alongside a log and WHAM! This guy came thrashing onto the bank! Another shot of the same fish! All in all, it felt great and I had a lot of fun! Hope anyone else that got out this morning had a good day? I know these are nothing like all them chrome Steelhead everyone likes to catch, but pecking away at tiny streams for natural resident Trout was always my preference.
  8. Nice going Leechman! Always wanted to catch trout from a lake, but so far have not.
  9. "Free" to all OFNers has a nice ring to it! LOL, sorry, I have no idea what these things would be worth but I'm sure someone will be along shortly with a more intelligent response.
  10. Hey Mr. B, Hope you have a great day and many happy returns to you! Brian

  12. I know Paul, I know. LOL Folks here are a little slow to catch on sometimes! I know for a fact that both LargeMouth and Smallmouth Bass do well here in ponds. The only thing nice about the rainbow trout is that they are voracious feeders on pellet foods and are fun to watch. Nothing quite like a silver missile shooting out of the water to grab a pellet!
  13. Welcome to the board Becky! A great first report and pics as well....what more could we ask for?
  14. Paul, we have TSC stores up here (I believe they originated in Canada?) but they are not as good as the ones in the States. I bought bags of fish feed pellets at the store in Michigan last summer that are not even available here. It was a fraction of the price we would pay ...if we could even find it! When folks around here think of ponds, they mostly think of trout as a species to stock. Pure Springs is one of the few places that sell other species, but they are a long way out of our immediate area and it is not easy to get there.
  15. Thanks Burt! That would be perfect...since the fellow making them is in Woodstock! Good idea on the powder coating Joe. Might be an alternative if the plating cannot happen.
  16. Trying to find a plating shop that will do small orders for a reasonable price. My Daughter has a friend who is making some fishing spoons as wedding gifts for the people attending their wedding. The fellow is hoping to make about a hundred (100) and get them done in either chrome, or something similar. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks, Brian
  17. I bought 1" fingerling Bass from Pure Springs, and the guy was excellent to deal with. I have since found a line on some much larger 6" to 8" fish for less money. Let me know if this is something you are interested in and are in my area. This might get your young lad fishing much sooner. Depending on the water conditions in your pond, the fish may grow quite slowly. The more fertile, the better. With the well flowing into it, it may be very clean and less fertile. Good luck, and check out www.pondboss.com. Loads of info there!
  18. Bernie, The fact that these guys have been with you for so long is a good reflection on you as an employer. It is hard to loose a good person, but of course he is doing what he feels is best for himself and you can't fault him for that. This just opens up a spot for some other fortunate individual to join your team! Thanks for sharing and good luck!
  19. Cliff, Are you not worried about condensation forming if you wrap the engine with plastic tight enough to keep small insects out? Just curious.
  20. Sinker and Scuro2, You guys are good people. I can only imagine how happy you made those fishermen with your gifts of tackle items that they just don't have access to. I was in Cuba in 1975 as a young teenager and had the opportunity to fish with a great man and also leave a few items behind with him. He gave me a couple of jigs that I have held on to all these 34 years later. They mean a great deal to me. One of these days, I would love to get back there and enjoy the type of vacation that you are writing about. Thanks for stirring up some grand old memories! Brian
  21. It's great that you had such a good experience with your guide. My wife and I were not as fortunate. The guy sounded fantastic on the phone, but in person was totally opposite. I don't think I would ever hire a guide again without checking his references thoroughly or having a personal recommendation like you are giving. Looks like some really good fish and great time was had! Thanks for sharing your trip.
  22. but I saw an article in today's Toronto Sun about this new C&R record from the St. Larry back in November? http://www.torontosun.com/news/canada/2009...789376-sun.html
  23. Hooked, In fact, the higher the gauge number, the lighter (or smaller diameter) the actual wire size is. AWG 12 can carry higher current (or load) draw than can AWG 14. AWG stands for American Wire Gauge. Just make sure your new cable is not AWG 16 or AWG 18. These would be too light for sure.
  24. Very sad indeed! Joey, It was a side by side, like a John Deere Gator they were riding. These are called utility vehicles, rather than an ATV. The two passengers sit beside each other. I was out on the pond this morning and can see holes opening up all over. I think the ice will be gone by weeks end if this weather keeps up. The bigger bodies of water could be even worse with the wind.
  25. You missed this one: F ix O r R epair D aily Anyways, Randy, that is one sweet sounding Ferd you got there!
