  1. I’d pay scrap value for it!! OP; it’s tough to find any boats this year, I bought and sold one in a week, had several more disappear before I could inquire. (Within days of listing) I say patch it up with 5200 and use gently for the rest of the season. Repair this winter. if rivets are really bad, what about using closed end pop rivets wicked in a bit of 5200 as a temp repair?
  2. I’d check the coils 1st. They were known for dry rotting and splitting apart. I’d check for spark first, then if not pull the flywheel and look at coils. If they look good, they will most certainly have been replaced. Plug wires might be solid copper core, not braid so I’m not entirely sure on that. (I could be getting that confused with other engines of the era.) The pre 59 OMC motors had bronze bearings instead of roller which is why the 24:1 ratio. (Pre 54 was 16:1 I think) I’d suggest looking the pressure can over too. If its rusty inside or hoses rotted, coupler missing etc. You could put more $ into the motor and tank as a whole than you can recoup should you not want to keep it. (Been there) not trying to burst a bubble here. If it was running in recent years it could be an easy project. If sitting for 20-30 years it’s going to take work. And if it needs too much, it’s still a beautiful wall hanger/display. Oh and don’t dismay if the compression readings are low, these are low comp motors by design. IIRC they will still run well at 85 psi. As long as they are both similar you’re good. Long stored motors can actually come up a bit in compression after running with rings unstuck and seating again. Oh and bummer on the 25 hp. Maybe you can find another lower unit or someone might want that powerhead
  3. Looks like a great place to get out and escape from the world. Sharp canoe. Glass of Kevlar? I bought a square stern glass canoe...freaking tank to paddle. Goes all day on electric though. But I miss a nice tranquil paddle with an efficient, lightweight ‘noe
  4. There’s a park on the water in Huntsville (deer lake Rv) and one in around Gloucester pool Severn area. The latter may be more permanent “trotages” though.
  5. That’s one of my favourite omc’s. is it a 54 or 55? Its a really clean looking survivor I’ve had a pair of 58 10’s, a 58 7.5 and I just sold a beauty running 57 18 hp Johnny. Horribly dirty running motors though. 24:1 how do the coils look? Pressure can still work?
  6. Lower unit oil and carb clean for sure. Fuel lines if questionable, super hard or spongy. Clean/replace and gap plugs. Seafoam is something I’ve always used but I’ve heard others rant about how bad it and premium fuels are on 2 strokes YMMV
  7. That sucks, 600v antitheft systems should be legal. I hope it gets recovered
  8. Pressure from being one of the first accessible lakes in the region?
  9. Thanks, I’ve been wondering about that lake since we stayed in the area last year. I’ve heard about the unmarked rocks so it makes me a bit nervous. I’m going to check and see if it’s a lake covered by navionics
  10. Thanks, I don’t know how much ground we can cover in a day. Actually, in a HALF day really, because we have to double back to the launch to go home. We have been talking about buying a big cruiser to do extended Trent Severn trips. But for now it has to be short excursions and I know NOTHING about these waterways and what to expect. Do you think we could do that hike and back without flying everywhere? I guess I was envisioning something like a really fast troll. The fastest maybe just on plane. And is this a super dumb idea to do without a group tour when we’re in a 45 year old boat? I've run this motor for 3 years without trouble.
  11. Hey guys, I know this isn’t a fishing question but you guys seem to be in the know of Ontario waterways. I would like to take my wife on a day long scenic river or shoreline cruise. We only have a 16’ boat so we need a place or places to stop along the way for a picnic lunch or dinner, washroom stop and dog breaks etc. (Towns, parks, crown land) We have a port-a-potti so stretches without stop points are not necessarily a deal breaker. I’m thinking of the Severn River between G.Bay and Sparrow or maybe the Trent system in Kawartha. We’re closer to G. Bay so that’s the preferred area. Open to further North in Muskoka or Parry Sound I don’t know if I’m comfy in out in Georgian Bay as our boat is quite old (don’t want to limp back on an 8hp kicker with weather approaching) and I’m concerned about water hazards. I just installed a helix 7 with nav, but I’m not experienced or confident enough in it yet. So looking for easy, protected and interesting. Open to suggestions on launch points, trip itinerary and points of interest. (And there might be a bit of fishing here and there) thanks in advance.
  12. Hey guys, anyone know if the public launch on Sparrow is open to out-of-towners right now? We were passing through Orillia 2 weeks ago and tried to access the lakefront park to eat some ice cream and we were turned away as we were non-residents. I don’t want to tow my boat for 2 hours to find we can’t launch. For back up purposes, any other suggestions on places I can launch and find good fishing waters in case we’re turned away or there’s no parking left etc? Driving up to another hour north isn’t out of the equation for quieter, better water and open access Thanks in advance
  13. I met him as a little kid He was selling Christmas trees somewhere in Willowdale
  14. Used CMC tilts come up occasionally. I have one I will likely be selling next year. I’ve got a 65 merc on it.
  15. I’d look into whether the heat affected zone will cause further problems. Distortion, work hardening causing stress cracking etc. Also too, there should be a butyl type sealant between the riveted flanges that will likely melt out...
  16. Thanks guys, I’ve decided that buying new is risky for me right now with out potential pending economic doom ~$11k for motor and controls out the door for an Etec, more for a Suzuki. I’m Sticking with used until the horizon looks better
  17. Is that tinnermans rock upriver from the French river lodge? More scars on that rock than on a Florida manatee. I think people hit it every year
  18. Very cool! I can’t wait to try this. That 27.5” walleye was exactly the same as my PB on the French. The ONLY fish we caught all day, last pass in, almost pitch dark. Sometimes pays to stay out until the bitter end on a bad day of fishing (and in that case not so bitter)
  19. Excellent good to know thanks. I have 2 choices then, between prop wash area and outer strake (but this is close to the 15” min distance) and the outer corner which I’d be concerned with getting knocked off somehow. I think I’ll gamble with the inner spot as my prop is 7” further out from the transom due to the cmc tilt unit. I don’t know what that will change in terms of prop wash. But I guess I can always move it if it isn’t working properly What do you mean about sharp shooting?
  20. Did anyone put one of these side scans on a riveted aluminum boat? The instructions say min 15” from prop area, about rivet rows and strakes...I’ve got few options... are they really that fussy?
  21. Thanks again guys. I haven’t got any new pricing yet. Every day I search Kijiji or FB marketplace for used. I was hoping to find a 90’s or early 2000’s OMC 60 or 70 as I had always heard they were solid...but perhaps not. Finding 70 Yamahas is like finding hens teeth. But this Covid recession and likely soon to be depression really has me concerned about spending $10k on a brand new toy. I don’t know if I can pull the trigger on new
  22. What year was the Johnny? 2 stroke on that one?
  23. Great looking boat! I run s 16’ aluminum and a 12v 55. I find wind can kill it so I use it in conjunction with the wind and control the drift mainly, then it lasts much longer. Im putting a spare battery in this year so I can go all day.
