  1. https://www.greysauble.on.ca/portfolio/arran-lake/# Ive never been. Please post your findings if you go. I’ve wanted to explore this area too
  2. Perfect, I mainly want to know depths when moving around, especially if I’m not all that familiar with the water. Especially the hidden shoals. Thanks again for your help
  3. Truthfully I didn’t read up on it in detail, but now I’m hearing that it might cap out at 10mph but I’ve gone down the internet rabbit hole to find mixed answers. Perhaps we can lean again on @Cosmos or @AKRISONER to weigh in? I hope I don’t have to buy another transducer and y cable. My boat goes ~30mph currently. Hoping to get it up near 40 next year
  4. Excellent, thanks for your input. I was worried if I’d run into starting issues and having 3 batteries in the boat already, I didn’t want the weight or cost of yet another. If the motor alternator man keep it charged while my 2 bank charger can deal with the TM batts, that’s perfect! and man, I’d love to see your boat! Just one helix 7 is worth more than my whole boat!
  5. Hey guys, I hear these take a lot of juice to run all day. Do you guys run dedicated batteries for them? Deep cycle?
  6. 3M 4200 or 5200 only. I think the 3m 4000 or their “marine sealant” isn’t rated for long periods below the waterline. CT sells it in marine section
  7. I agree with Fisherman Do you have a floor installed? If not, just put the boat back in the water and watch for the leak. I would also check the plug seal where the kill comes at the bow. If they made your boat with one sheet of aluminum, it will be pulled together at the front. The keel strip is usually open or has drilled holes in it at the transom so it doesn’t expand by freezing water. There will be caulking seal at the front of the strip where the bow rises.
  8. I guess I'm lucky....she wants me to buy a newer, bigger boat. I just dont want the payments I guess alimony payments could be much worse!
  9. Great read, looks like it was a great time. Love the part about “do you want to get paid“.
  10. I quite agree. However Google is quite the rabbit hole. Then again asking this question here on a forum is the same thing. Everybody has opinions. The marine version of Ford versus Chevy versus dodge. I will have to pick and choose where I side. (And lwith the written word it’s hard to tell sometimes or somebody’s coming across. I hope I did not come across as lazy.) I tend to post a lot of questions on forums; a) it gives us something to discuss. And it stimulates traffic and activity on a forum which it needs to survive and prosper. b) it’s interaction and connection with people albeit digitally. c) discussions and ideas brought forth might bring something to the table I might not have thought of on my own by just reading reviews How many years or hours do you typically run them before you buy another? Your post indicates you have had several. Like cars, some people turn them over in a number of years instead of driving them into the ground. I had heard that they make powerheads for others. Do you know what the factory support is like in Ontario as far as warranty and service is concerned? Should I go new, I think part of the deciding factor will be in regards to how many service shops there are for that brand. If there’s only one distributor/service shop in 100 k radius from me, that concerns me. I’m stuck dealing with one shop if I don’t like them. I can’t find a Honda dealer anywhere within a 2 Hour Dr. There’s a few Yamaha. One Suzuki. And a few dealers that are selling Mercury. What are you guys think about Evinrude getting out of motors? Do you think there be a good factory service for years to come? I wonder if the mercury dealers will take over repairs. I thought I had heard that Evinrude/OMC I partnered up with mercury to manufacture motors for their boats. So I wonder if it’s going to be a situation like jeep. It’s basically a Chrysler product now. Mopar whatever you wanna call it. Do you think that’s going to be the same with Evinrude/mercury?
  11. Hey Guys, I'm heading to the Upper French river in a few weeks. It's my first time in the area and I'm hoping for some area and fishing tips since I'm only up for 2 days.. I'm launching out of Dokis and staying nearby. Looking for Pickerel and bass mostly. I'm sure this area is rich with hotspots but any tips to help me be really productive would be really aprreciated. Any do's, dont's and any particular water hazards to avoid? I know there's rocks everywhere, but can I assume being above the dam, the water levels dont drop as much as they do in the lower french? Any weather tendancies such as night fog? I know people who have gotten lost overnight because the fog rolled in
  12. Thanks guys. I'm going to start poking around the marine dealers. Upgrading a 45 year old motor to a 25-30 year old motor, if I can even find one seems like a lot of trouble and risk. Especially for the waters I want to explore. (Need reliability) Something really fuel efficient would be welcome too, especially for waterbodies with lots of distance to cover
  13. I’m not sure if the used market is extremely slim pickings this year or if it’s because the fact I’m actually looking to buy makes it seem so. Nothing in the era that I’m looking for and everything else is questionable or antique, worn out overpriced junk or parts motors. In any regard, I’m now considering going new. I was planning on buying a good used 60 or 70 OMC and then moving up to a new Etec in three or four years, but the latest announcement regarding the end of Evinrude has me questioning where I should go now. I priced out a 60 horse Etec last year and I feel prices shot up $1k shortly after Evinrude production closure was announced. I don’t think I’d want to buy one now anyway for fear that there will not be warranty or Parts support down the road. So what does that leave me? Mercury, Suzuki, Yamaha? It might be time that I embrace four stroke technology. Who is the leading group there? 60-70hp range preferred.
  14. Ditto what @porkpie said. Pulling an axle is a lot of work and there may be no need if its just a seal & bearing job. If you are going to a swap, I suggest checking with Cerka trailer supply in Milton. http://www.cerka.ca/ Often better pricing than PA and I believe they ship. I'd imagine your closest PA is Newmarket? And I trust thier quality over PA. I've dealt with them several times and thier pick up prices are actually cheaper than listed. Nonetheless, congrats on the nice looking boat!
  15. Read the google reviews before you go. I wouldn’t go to one in particular
  16. I spent my evenings satellite scouting. I can’t wait to get back up there. What happens to the exhausted logging areas? Is it still considered owned lands? Or does the crown only allow forestry operations and retain the land as crown? I’d like to explore these areas but don’t want to find myself in trouble.
  17. That’s awesome! I know some guys don’t like him, but I really think he’s beyond exceptional. Anything he and Kevin Shirley have produced is top notch.
  18. I know right? There's fuel in the little rail siding town. Carter or something. Certainly not much betweek Gogama and Sudbury. Tough to pull over at a lot of places if I recall. Short shoulders if any. Lots of rock and guardrails. I did see a lake with a dirt launch. Though the best rig for up there is probably a 4 x 4 with a full ladder style rack and a tin boat topper. or kayaks Beautiful up there.
  19. When I stayed at halfway Lake provincial park north of Sudbury, I noticed quite a few small lakes he close to the road. Some of them had what appeared to be access points. There was also a guy camping on one of them. There was enough water to explore at the park so I didn’t venture out to any of them. But I always wonder if there’s s plethora of bucket mouths in the lily pads, or if these mini lakes/large ponds are too small to hold a population of nice fish
