  1. I have a feeling that with my luck, when I reach to retrieve the weight/line from the water, I will end up swimming. And knowing whom I'm with, they probably won't swing around to pick me up. So the retrievers will prevent from taking that unexpected swim, and perhaps save a bad back if you have one. I need to lift the units up so that the rods have enough clearance in the holders where I'm mounting them, and at the same time to save my back. I know it's only 6 inches, but I believe it will make a big difference. I can flush mount them as they are and they will clear the gunnels ... but I want them lifted. From what I see, balls are anywhere from 20 to 60 bucks more or less, depending on the design.
  2. Welcome Matt! You will find what you are looking for here. Ahh, report cards. I remember what mine used to look like in grade 8: History: Math: English: Art: Science: No wonder I never wanted to show my parents!
  3. I just bought a pair of new mag 10's, and I still have to pick up the balls and 6" pedastals (man are they expensive!) , and retreivers. I will be running 8 pound balls. I was thinking of using bricks to save some money, but hey, I have already went this far
  4. Hey Bare, the Baril is a file place to vacation. I'm sure you have found most of the resorts listed at the chamber. you will have an amazing time. I have been going to the cottage there for over 33 years now, and wouldn't trade it for the world. Beautiful place. Musky Mike, the later pictures looks alot like the South Mag. Great shots!
  5. A helmet, adrenaline, and some heavy white water to get that awesome boat surfing down some rapids! I love it! Great job on everything and a fine idea. Congrats to all your accomplishments. You should give 'er a name and stamp the pontoon!
  6. A sure sign of spring! Excellent job and nice fish! Congrats! Those sunglasses are very fashionable ... I want a pair!
  7. Hi Will, What an awesome day to end the season. Congratulations with that excellent looking Laker. H2's parent's live a skip away from Big Bay Point, so we spent the day there on the ice as well. You couldn't have asked for better weather to sign off the season. Unlike you, there was no action below our holes ... no wonder, because they were with you! Your day has only a couple of months to wait for the big one. He'll get one then.
  8. You should consider the fit of the cockpit to see if it's comfortable for you. The volume of the kayak has its limitations of how much weight it can keep buoyant and paddle as it was designed for. The more weight, the more plowing when you paddle which will take more energy in your stroke... and if you are too heavy, then the bow will pearl under water. You will know what happens quickly after that. Before you buy, get into the kayak and try it out. Your legs and butt may not be as comfortable as you may think. In my kayak, I have adjustments for the seat, the back band, thigh braces, knee braces, hip pads, and foot pads. It's not so imperative that you have all of this in a flat water kayak, but it should be noted. Make comfort priority. You don't want to be giving up hockey just because your skates don't fit properly. That's a good deal on the kayak for sure, and a great opportunity to get out there and paddle and enjoy more of the outdoors ... with or without your fishing gear.
  9. Weclome a'board! A wealth of knowledge can be found here, and an amazing group of people. Enjoy.
  10. Are you sure you aren't using crack instead of roe? You are getting the fish "hooked"!!! Great job again! Congrats to both of you!
  11. Hey Mizzmo, I'm am not too familiar with Southern Harris, but I have spent 33 years so far on Northern Harris. What I do know about the S. Harris is that it's beautiful, fairly small, and gives you a sense of privacy and seclusion. You are in luck if you are going to try your luck at pike fishing, because they are in there for sure, along with the bass you have already mentioned. I have heard rumours that there are pickerel in there, but I can't be certain nor confirmed. I will leave that up to you! Good luck and have fun!
  12. Nice Fish! You guys starting your guiding business yet?
  13. I can't wait!
  14. I have caught grass, been caught with it, tree limbs, dock chains, shanked a couple of fins ... but no pickerel. I don't think I have marked any significant schools in there. But that's just me. I couldn't even catch a cold to take a day off work.
  15. I tried to get myself into that tournament on the Gull a few years ago, but with no sleep the night before at a friends cottage in Bancroft, I bailed. I think the winning bass ended up to be 2 pounds, but a quick down river trial. I had everything rigged and ready to go. I set up the ski tube with velcro straps to hold my rods, and had dry bags for my gear secured inside. I attached the rope to the stern handle, and a way I go. I modeled it well at my cottage with a few test runs, but the freestyle boats are not cut out to tow well ... or follow straight lines for that matter. The concept of fishing from a kayak has always interested me. On occasion after some flips and tricks at the cottage, I will grab a rod off the dock and paddle it back out with me in and around the bay. The "play boat/freestyle" kayak spins in a 360 as soon as you take the blade out of the water, so it's not very practical. If you have a down river race at the end, I may have a chance to win if I combine my score. But with my luck these days, I may catch a snail or rubber boot to take to the scales.
  16. Doh! I just bought a new pair of Mag 10's! I guess I snoozed. Scotty and Big Jon are bulky riggers, that's why I bought the more "in-line" Mag 10's. Go electric. All resources point to power. You may be cursing yourself if you end up losing the "big one" because your other hand is not committed. .... and of course, that boat deserves to be fished like a pro. Good luck!
  17. Hey Will - great report! Glad to see that you made it out on the BOQ ice ... and came up with some fish! Great job!
  18. If you guys get together, let me know. I live in the core of downtown Toronto. Would be neat to catch some fish less than 5 minutes down the road. I have a boat, but don't have a harbour license. Hooters ... hmmm, now that's a toss up.
  19. There are pickerel in Simcoe??? Awesome catch! I would walk a thousand miles to catch one that size through the ice.
  20. Great news! I missed all of the previous threads, but excellent to hear that your daughter has an easier future to look forward to and can maintain a healty lifestyle. Good for her! Wish her a speedy recovery and bright days ahead.
  21. Sssshhhhh! Geoff, Lake Rosseau and Lake Joe are good options for sure .... just can't tell you exactly where, but as this thread mentions already, use that information and you will indeed become successfull. Sudsmaster and Camillj, sounds like you are off to a great start. Hopefully this weekend we'll be up that way. Good Luck!
  22. Hey Dave, congrats to all your recent successes. I was able to catch EATV here and there. Great job! Chase that dream of yours ... all the best to you. ... hmmm, do I see your own show in the future? Russell
  23. Scugog has lots of ice ... and put the Jiffy to work, but the bite is slow. Looks like larger groups are fishing the basins. Bancroft/Haliburton area ... if you make the trip you can find some smaller lake gems up there with little to nobody fishing. Good luck!
  24. Nice job and congrats to your PB Crappies. I can relate to the night fishing for Pickerel on the bog ... we started when then sun set and nothing. I beleive I caught a cold though. Man that ice is thick.
  25. Excellent job! That's an awesome picture. Good thing you had your suit on. Looks like it wouldn't have been such a bad idea to bring a stick and a puck along with you as well, the ice seems clean enough.
