  1. I'd be interested in a couple perhaps.
  2. Nice looking fish! thanks for sharing!
  3. I second checking out steepandcheap.com. They often have costa del mars as well as oakleys and other brands for good deals. I just picked up a pair of polarized oakleys from 75 with taxes and shipping. They also have great deals on all kinda of outdoor gear! I just wish there was a site like that for fishing and hunting gear.
  4. Cool Topic... More exotic species would be.... Taiman from Mongolia Peacock bass from the amazon Rooster fish Mexico (baja peninsula is where they are I think) Dorado- Carribean somewhere Fish that are more likely to be in the near (kinda) future Steelhead from the Skeena River King Salmon also from the Skeena or Tahltan or Stikine Rivers Rainbow trout from Buckley Lake (30+ lbers in there... rainbow, not steelies!) Artic Grayling (will happen this spring from either the Dease or Cottonwood rivers) Arctic Char, Ideally from the Tree or Porcupine but I'll start with Veronica Lake which is only about 4 hours from here. Giant Halibut fishing out of Stewart B.C. If I have things my way I'll be able to land all of these by the end of 2009, Halibut may not work out though.

    LINE

Can't say I've changed line colour much with ice fishing, but in the summer while bottom bouncing for walleye on the St. Lawrence; low visibility Green put the clear stuff to shame. Rigs were exactly the same except for the line, and the green out-fished the other stuff probably 3:1. Have switched over to fireline crystal though, and that seems to be pretty equal to the green, so maybe it wasn't as much of a factor as we initially thought.
  6. Nice whities! thanks for sharing!
  7. I think we can all relate to the itch for fishing, steelhead angler or not! thanks for sharing, I look forward to many more great pictures!
  8. Great shots! Classic GBH pose!
  9. FYI, I was searching around the Cabela's site and noticed a few of the Abu baitcasters were on sale in the bargain cave.
  10. Looks like you guys had a blast! thanks for sharing!
  11. Gorgeous pup, glad the girlfriend doesn't check this site. In a couple years I'll be looking for a pup just like that.
  12. Well, I can't say I do any muskie fishing, but I did read an interesting article in Outdoor Canada about pike, and I think the same applies to muskie. The larger fish will choose to prey on larger-easy targets as opposed to chasing down many smaller prey. Less energy output on this fishes part to catch one meal as opposed to many with the same caloric value means an easier life. In that regard I can see why up-sizing bucktails might be advantageous. On the other hand the fish might be less likely to strike as a reactionary bite, fearing damage from a larger intruder. I think it all depends on the water you are fishing, and if you are trophy hunting. The old saying goes "big lures catch big fish" but if your after numbers, I would suggest keeping the size down. But like I said I don't muskie fish, so what do I know?
  13. Very sorry to hear about this, losing a pet (friend) is always hard.
  14. THanks for taking the time to post! Some nice clean ice out there!
  15. Nice fish, I can't believe the gut on that one!
  16. beauty whitefish. Would love to get into some of those big guys sometime.
  17. Can't say I've ever caught a whitie from deep waters, but Lakers certainly feel the effects much less than other fish. Lakers will burp out the excess air as their swim bladder is connected to their digestive system, and this allows them to burp to regulate the quick changes in pressure. I don't think there are too many species that have this same characteristic though, and I'm certainly no expert.
  18. Great report! thats a beauty speck! thanks for sharing!
  19. I agree 100% Those videos are incredibly disturbing. It is unreal, that the fins can be so profitable that the extra weight caused by the rest of the carcass is such a burden that it is wasted. I think there are many examples like this, just not as highly publicized. Turtles also come to mind. Unfortunately I believe cultural and traditional beliefs would need to be re-examined with an "eye" on the environment for things to change. Wasn't such a problem in the past when there were less people, and less people who could afford these delicacies, but times are changing.
  20. yum, looks like someones having fish and chips soon!
  21. STRETCHING! The benefits of stretching are seriously under appreciated. Everyone at any age should spend 10-15 minutes stretching every day. It will go a long way towards feeling better physically and mentally. As Rick said, yoga might be an option. But just taking a minute here or their while your reading posts to stretch out your shoulders would certainly help out. Not sure I would recommend weight training because the repetitive motion might lead to further irritation.
  22. I don't think monitoring our post-counts will be productive at all. As many have said it would erode the "community" environment that is in place here. Personally, post count does not matter to me, I enjoy reading all of the fishing reports and will often thank the original poster for sharing their experience. Fish or no fish, being outside and "giving it a go" is enviable. As for the peanut gallery, I wish people would contribute more often, it is somewhat discouraging to go through the time and effort (all be it, it doesn't take much) to create a report, only to find 100's of people viewing it, but only a handful of replies, sometimes it seem the effort unappreciated, or people are taking advantage of ones generosity. I wish I had more advice to offer on the technical topics, but there are others here that have much more knowledge on these than me, if I can't answer a specific question I wont, but when I can, I will offer and info/advice that I can. Regular auctions to benefit the site, sounds like a good idea! I'm sure people have many items they would be willing to donate. In any event, Im sure if the board was in need, the outstanding people here would lend a helping hand in any way they could.
  23. One of the most unique reports of the season! great job and thanks for sharing!
