  1. K, you can't tease us like that and not unveil the recipe.
  2. Did you take that shot? if so its pretty amazing. They kinda look like Sitka Deer which are traditionally smaller than your avg. white tail, but they wouldn't be hanging about anywhere in Ont. Either way, thanks for the post!
  3. wow! how long have you had that top knife? I thought it was an oyster knife at first.
  4. The only time I had whitefish was on a camping trip at thanksgiving. Didn't have any flour, breadcrumbs or really anything to make a batter with except pancake mix. So I thought what the heck. Battered them up with that (dry) and fried them in a little butter. It was delicious, I will certainly use it again sometime!
  5. Watch them online, you can see them anytime you want. www.gettinghooked.net
  6. Just to let anyone know who is interested. The new season of getting hooked with Aaron and Barry started 3 weeks ago. Previous seasons were available for download on their website. This year they changed things and put the episodes up as Streaming Videos. Many people who may want to watch the episodes multiple times, or have bad internet connection (like me) find this a nuisance. Anyways someone on their board mentioned this and Aaron posted a few links to websites which allow you to download and save these videos. Firefox has an add on, which I installed and am currently working on downloading this weekends episode. Heres the link to Aaron's post.... Aarons Post
  7. looks like a great year! glad to have you aboard.
  8. Not intending to hijack, but I have a question for Mike, two questions actually. First off, how do you hook those fishing snakes? Seems to me the hook is embedded close to the head and my thoughts are, it would lead to a lot of short strikes/missed fish. Secondly after watching the video several times I feel as though the action might get fish excited. Are the scented? and lastly did you order them online or pick them up at a store?
  9. Nice purchase! should get lots of nice bass in that beauty!
  10. I think it was just a reference to the clearance section. They have been advertising it on the home page for the past little while.
  11. great fish! thanks for taking the time to share!
  12. I agree with the young guys needing to be there. Good call on Shea Weber, he will likely be there. Can't say I agree with Turco or Ward though. I think Price or Fluery are more likely to be in the backup spot.
  13. Good luck Stoty. Can't wait to see all the pictures once you have it!
  14. beauty fish! I really gotta get out sometime to target them through the ice!
  15. And just too add another name into the fire, how about Jay Bowmeester?
  16. Definitely Carter over Spezza. Way better team guy! and I doubt Giguere will be there, I agree Fleury or Price. Also I wonder if Brodeur will still be at his peak when the Olympics roll around.
  17. Beautiful fish! and its good seeing Doug Jeffries again, haven't seen him in a while!
  18. welcome back, you know you still can fish in the winter!
  19. Forgot to mention Fosters is on the bay of quinte.
  20. I worked/Lived on Beausoliel Is. for a few months on summer/fall. at Camp Kitchikewana. I'd imagine you were staying at the public dock on the bay opposite the camp. Great bass fishing around all the docks in the fall, just be careful, you will get shooed away from the camp if there are still people there. Don't want little kiddies getting a hook embedded in their foot while swimming. Also my friends family has a beautiful cottage just off the southern tip of the island. Beautiful place I love that area. Another good spot might be fosters fishing center near napanee. only about a 2-2.5H drive east of TO. I've gone the weekend after wally opener the past 3 years and have had good sucess with the walleyes. Have not fished pike while there, but there is a huge marsh that can be seen from the docks that is said to have great pike fishing. The campground is nice, not busy on that weekend, prices are fair, and staff treat you well. check into it!
  21. Mike, I'm not going to pretend I know a lot about the differences in Rods, but if you are concerned with money just stick with what you have. I have 2 rods but only ever use 1 of them. I have a 6'6" Medium action shimano soujourns (cheapy) rod and an Abu Garcia Cardinal 502 spinning reel. I use this rod for everything, from topwaters to soft plastics. I'll admit it might not have quite the backbone needed for jerk baits but I have caught all kinds of different fish with this rod on all kinds of techniques. Spooled mostly with 8lb mono or 10lb fireline. I use this setup for jigging or bottom bouncing for walleye. Tossing soft plastics into med. heavy cover for largies, flipping jigs for smallies, and casting or trolling Huskey jerk/ xraps for pike. Granted I haven't caught any fish much over 10lbs with this I feel as though I could, and land them without killing the fish (except maybe a musky). I do have a baitcaster (old Shimano beastmaster) with a matching shimano rod (I think its only 6ft MH but haven't looked at it in a while). I had this given to me by my gma years ago as she won it at a bingo. I have never figured out how to cast it. I though there was something wrong with it. Brought it to a shop and had it taken apart and re-greased, but still no luck. I need a substantial wieght (over 1.5 oz) to cast it even 20 ft. There is no way I could cast a soft plastic at all with this. Now I know its probably just me, not knowing how/knowing the settings of the reel, but I don't even bother bringing it out because every thing I try shows no improvements. (its jsut too frustrating). My advice, stay with what you have and save your money for a trolling motor for that new boat of yours. Looks like you already have a nice little collection of rods/reels and tackle, now start putting your money towards getting to the fish that have eluded you from shore. ** if anyone knows anything about the reel Im talking about please show me how to use it! it kills me!
  22. Great report. I've gotta get out to Simcoe on of these days! thanks for sharing.
  23. I've always been a tail down fan myself. Don't know why just always looked "right" to me. If I'm not mistaken I think I saw a facts of fishing segment where Dave Mercer completely threw me off. He flipped the grub over and rigged it so the tail was nearest the weighted head of the jig. His reasoning was it gave the grub more action/profile one the bottom for the fish to pick up. never tried it though.
  24. Nice healthy looking fish! Can't wait to get some wally meals going when I get back to ONT. thanks for sharing!
