  1. Can't go wrong dead sticking the Yum Dingers for bucketmouth. Even though I've had a lot of success with these I think I might move more towards the Gulp and other biodegradable soft plastics out there. I figure, might as well leave the lakes as pristine as possible. I also just picked up some slug-go soft plastics at BPS. Supposed to be the first soft plastic that you can work like a hardbody bait. Has anyone tried these at all?
  2. Looks great!!! I have to admit I'm a bit jealous!
  3. There was a girl who went to a neighboring high school who's name was Krystal Shanda Lier
  4. Funny thing is the CO that I was talking to said he actually used sunfish tails, hahaha
  5. Thanks for the tips. I'm going to look into the poor mans downrigger, not for the lake I had in mind because its no motors allowed. It might be too much gear to lug around on a camping trip, but there are a few other lakes I was also looking at that it might come into play on.
  6. Can't help much providing info on new lines. I usually stick with my Berkley smooth casting low visibility green --> The green line seems to be the trick for Walleye where I often fish. Was wondering if anyone has any insight on the new Copolymer lines that are out? I just saw them at BPS last week for the first time, and they looked interesting.
  7. Thanks for the input.. I know fishing with live game species is illegal, I usually just use the left over tails from the sunfish I eat.... In terms of the split shot, the whole idea was if you snag you can typically just rip the sinkers off the line instead of losing the whole outfit. How late into the spring will they typically stay in the shallower water?
  8. As with the rest I've found that pike will bite almost anytime. I find they're a little more active in the morning. That might just be because I do most of my fishing in the morning though. I don't know what they'll be after this early in the season, but I generally like to through spinner baits out for them, usually white and chartreuse work quite nicely. Pike are big time ambush predators, so fishing around weed beds and rock walls is a must. On Lake Ontario I like to find breakwalls around harbours. If the breakwall has a hole to allow boats to get out to the main lake this is a perfect spot for pike. They'll sit at the bottleneck waiting to ambush smaller fish traveling through. Not the best spot mid summer because boat traffic is sometimes really bad. good luck with it, do enough bass fishing this summer and you're bound to hook on to a pike, you won't be disappointed!
  9. I've only targeted lake trout a couple times and haven't had any success at all. Previously I've been out with friends who have had down riggers or steel line set ups. Unfortunately I don't have the same resources, or the money to make such purchases at the moment. I plan on fishing a relatively small lake just north of Kingston this summer that is supposed to have a good concentration of Lakers (some as big as 35lbs according to the conservation officer I was speaking with last summer). I've heard some people talk about using a setup with a 3 way swivel, dropping a line with about 10-15 split shots on the bottom then trailing either a crank bait or a spoon tipped with a sunfish tail. From what I hear they hold at around 80-90 feet during the summer, and I'm not sure if that weight is sufficient to get down that deep and keep the presentation there. Does any one have any experience with this approach to Lakers, or have any other suggestions to help me land my first lake trout? p.s. I created a gallery with some pictures from the past couple summers if anyone wants to check them out!
  10. Thanks for the quick responses everyone. I'll have to check up on all those sites. Like someone said I'm still waiting for the ice to totally clear but it shouldn't be too much longer!
  11. Hey Everyone, I'm a new member! Right now I'm living in Windsor for the next couple of months. I've heard there is a really good run of Walleye in the spring in the Detroit river. Since I don't have a boat does any one know of any good shore casting spots that I might be able to get into them? or perhaps get some roaming Pike?? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
