Great report! How far North in Sask are you? I was born on PA and made a trip back up there a couple of years ago, didn't fish while I was there, but there sure is some great scenery! Great report.

Nice walters, must have been a great feast!
-
Beautiful fish, makes up for the slow piking.

Looks like a blast, glad to see both you and your son had fun and caught PB's!
-
Healthy looking fish! thanks for the report.

I was wondering the same thing... or if it was a bird that decided to spread its wings for a bit. Couldn't tell if the first tracks were pigeoned towed or not, could not see any definite foot prints, it was more like a shuffle. The second set is indeed a wolverine great work!

Too bad the fish didn't co-operate. Fox can be hard to photo I find, often very skiddish unless they're in an urban area.

Great stuff, some beauty fish there! THanks for sharing.

Well the rivers are very high and dirty so I've had to find some other ways to pass the time. Last Monday one of the other teachers and I hiked up a mountain not far out of town. Here is some scenery for you... Found these tracks along the way and can't figure out what they are... any ideas? Same tracks, for some reason there was 1 small section with these odd lines. Close Up.. Shortly after we saw this guy... could they be his?? A while later we came across these as well. I know what they are, but can you figure out which elusive animal they belong too? Yesterday we headed out to scout out some fishing spots for the upcoming salmon run. Decided along the way to hike part way down the Grand Canyon of the Stikine. More scenery for you... While eating lunch we spotted this white spot across the canyon... so we zoomed in, and saw what we thought was a nice sized Billy... After waiving our arms and shouting it finally stood up for a pose. Turns out what we thought was a Billy was actually a Nanny with a small Kid, probably less than a couple weeks old. After a while they decided to amble on... Ended up driving a lot further than we expected and made it too the small town of Glenora where we found this nice beach. Glenora is famous for its small population of hippies that lived here during the draft dodging days. Met up with a fellow from Dease Lake who took us on a jet boat ride to check his salmon nets but unfortunately they were empty. This morning I got a call from another fellow teacher. He told me a truck had gone over and to get there quick. Turns out the semi was filled with frozen Sockeye salmon on its way South from Alaska. The driver swerved to avoid a car and ended up on his side. Fortunately no one was hurt, but something had to happen with the salmon. If it was left it would have gone bad, and given our remote location getting another truck there just wasn't feasible. So the whole town was out emptying this truck. People were leaving with pickups filled. Ended up with 8 full sized frozen Sockeye. -Andre

I just bought a good pair of polarized for the first time. I got the Oakley Twitch. I've had several pairs of Oakleys now and can't go wrong. I find the quality great and customer service excellent as well. Have had a couple replacement pairs shipped to me with no questions asked. Also I recommend you check out steepandcheap.com They frequently have eyewear (and all kinds of camping gear) on sale with great prices. thats where I bought mine. Can't go wrong with a pair of polarized oakleys for $75. Just be careful as some of the brands can only be shipped to US addresses. but none the less, there are some great deals to be had.

American friend looking for trip ideas for him and son

I would suggest Lac Nilgaut - its about 2 hours from Ottawa very remote, about an hour of the drive is down a 1 lane dirt road. The only things on the lake are the cabins at the camp. Reasonable prices and great lake trout and pike fishing. Only problem is you wont find very much info online for it. -
Great looking pup! I'm sure she'll make a great fishing partner!

sounds like a great day! that is one ugly drum though.

Bay of Quinte - Fishing tips for a newbie

I agree with the worm harnesses and bottom bouncers. 99% of my walleye have come on this setup. Personally I like the silver/chartreuse blades and beads. Using this method you will also get a lot of incidental smallies, pike and sheephead so the action should be there. -
Nice looking eyes there! How far east on the Larry? I fish eye's there often in the Morrisburg area.
-
Great stuff! I've gotta get down there and give that a try! Thanks for sharing.

a week long trip, deep in the interior of Algonquin
Zubris21 replied to Meegs's topic in General Discussion
Great read. Congrats on the successful trip. Looks like the weather co-operated for the most part and you got some beauty fish. I've really gotta get into Algonquin one of these days. -
This is ridiculous. I don't think it'll ever fly over here, with perhaps the exception of specially stocked lakes where they want a report of catch totals/stats like with the Aurora Trout project. Personally, I eat a lot of fish. I will usually have 1-2 fish in the freezer and keep that stock up throughout the season as best I can. Now this certainly does not mean I keep every fish, in fact far from it. I would say maybe 1 in 10 is kept, and they are never the big breeders. Would I want to keep all the fish I catch? no not at all, would I if such a law was passed? I wouldn't even hesitate to practice C&R. I wouldn't cut down on my fishing because some yuppie P3TA chick doesn't want a fish to get their lip pierced, even though they probably have it done themselves.

looks to me like someone shot or speared it. Wild animals can be pretty resilient though, hopefully it survives.
