  1. There's not much to find online about Onamans. Most of Rob's business comes from big lake U.S. anglers out to chase the big lakers, and then there's plenty as well who fish the other three species. The Sports shows he attends are Stateside and he does very little Ontario advertising. That said, when we were there he was quite busy with cabins and campsites occupied, and he pretty well has everything there other than booze to buy. Here's a few links. http://www.oodmag.com/community/showthread.php?45522-Lake-Nipigon-Photo-Album http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=70646 http://mnoutdoorsman.com/forums/index.php?topic=8451.0 http://www.idofishing.com/forum/showflat.php/Number/1260723/fpart/1/scratch-is-that-a-broken-record It "could be" an absolutely wicked trip for just pike and eyes. Reason being, the area and potential for BIG fish, numbers or both. Humboldt and Ombabika Bays on Nipigon are known to be better-than-average areas of the lake for both species, there's also the Onaman River, (after opener especially) Onaman Lake, (see link above or Bauer's Fly-Ins, and note that ORR has access to this gem), Northwind Lake, Jackfish River... and how many other lakes in that area too. ORR claims nearby access for day trips into about 40 others lakes with specks, eyes, pike, lakers, whitefish, splake, bows, perch... whatever. But pike and walleye potential is totally there, and frankly as much as hundreds of eater to good average size fish fisheries are fun, it's more often than not the giants of the trip that are remembered most... at least for me. There's close fishing to ORR for both and it can be solid, but I felt as though the surface was only scratched due to all the other options our group didn't get a chance to try on our trip last summer. I have Steve. At that site there, or one of your other ones. Not " quite exactly" sure where they are though, and it's a long way out to guess. That said, it's in the works for some year soon. Camping out is a great way to really be there. I'll have something for you that'll help Tyler. Rob's reasonable and friendly, and will help get you started. He treats everyone the same no matter, but don't go expecting more... just plan that for yourselves.
  2. Etrex went to a buddy who would cross James Bay from Moose River to Mississicabi or Harricanaw and go it by compass well offshore to avoid the tidal flats. He liked pinpointing his landing when using that unit for the first time. They were all useful tools in one way or another.
  3. Joey is stylin Fo'Sho!
  4. Dave... it's a mobile tank pop-up. Wicked.
  5. Keep Leah fishing, get Summer fishing, take Brenda fishing, share a first time fishing with my brother, introduce my nephew to fishing and take some non-fishing friends fishing. Build more on the fishing I have done last 5 years since coming home, maybe try and fit a new species or two into the summer season if not working or travelling much. Leave ungrateful, delusional, freeloading drunks on shore, away from any fishing and out of my life. Catch PB lakers, Experience all new fishing trips this year, travelling with family and friends. Go ProStaff.......???? Naaahhh !!! Pick up extra work or contracts if needing supplies. Get a new tow vehicle. 15 years on the Chev and she's starting to hurt a little too much. Keep on fishin' on.
  6. Caught this the other day at work... There's nothing quite like the subtle and gentle little tugs seen at the rod tip, then finding out a 100, 200, maybe even 500 to 1000 pound giant white sturgeon was just sniffing and rolling around a little piece of salmon flesh or ditch eel in it's gums. Coolest thing mang! Great white sturgeon for ya dood!
  7. Dang dood! Dunno if I like the ride or the eye more. Good to hear from ya Jay. See that fishing Fishin' God's Country is treating ya well.
  8. OMC... Oh My Cod!!! lol. Cool pics Frodo of the Shire!
  9. Shucks Brother Glen... GBW did post "celeb" though, not lunatic. It's probably called obsession too, not passion. Do loves me some fishing bud, thanks. Maybe one day we'll get that chance to share a boat and I'll talk your ears off. Really have no idea off the top of my head which celebrity I'd wanna hang out with so maybe I'll go with Roy too, if Wayne gives it the OK.
  10. If walleye are involved I would take a guess that it has to do with taking the smallie numbers down a peg (and increase fishing opps), to help bring/keep the walleye numbers up. They do often compete in the same spaces. And, maybe not so much in that part of Northern Ontario, (but maybe so) it's more often the walleye to more anglers and travellers, that are the fish of importance for sport, food and tourism. Policing this then... is not likely in any part of the plan. lol.
  11. There are a good few who appreciate that brook trout fishery, but likely only a small few who appreciate it to your level Alan. Here's to hoping your 2014 season is a healthier one. Not sure I'll be seeing you out there this year, but one day we'll hopefully share a boat. Great pics... and quite enjoyed the video. Happy New Year. Wayne.........
  12. Thanks Bri. Again, wasn't sure it had the flasher mode. There should be other color options for it too if it's like any other Lowrance. Basically it's same as the X67 but you have a split screen sonar/flasher option which is different. If changing up down the road I'll strongly consider the Elite as it's dual purpose and a good price. Would have been a better video had ya got that fish. I've been out to check on ice weeks ago, and put in a couple hours for pannies. Season will kick off tomorrow... time to get serious. lol. Good luck out there bud. Hope you find some Simcoe greys and whites.
  13. Happy Holidays Brian Doooood! And Co. And OFC too.
  14. You boys are off to the races. Must be Quinte time for yas soon??? Some solid eyes and craps. Great day on Walleye Bay. Will have to watch the video after work today. Happy New Years doods!
  15. Thanks fellas. Appreciated. Never left Ontario this past year and that says something about our great fishing opportunities. From an hours drive or less, to one full long days tour north, south or west, it's incredible the trophy fisheries available. Having the options these past few years to hit the road and try anything is something quite enjoyed. Roy, TJ & Mods. Thanks for keeping this great place afloat for all of us over the years. For myself and the reports, most have always been supportive and kind when dropping a line, it's lead to some good things. In times when it seems many other sites are slowing down or folding up, it has to be both the membership and leadership of a site that keeps people interested and keeps it going. A week, sometimes a day doesn't go by when many of us have to make time to pop in here and see what's up with the people who make this "a community." Thanks again for providing this place for us all. Happy Holidays.
  16. Eating tigers. Ain't that a thing to think about. Do kind of agree with some, it is "oddly" cool looking. That head only a test-tube, genetically engineered freak mother could love.
  17. Don't think it should, but who knows? Charlie and Co. have been running that 4-Star lodge for some time now, and for the most part have always had the best interests of the fishery and their customers in mind. Will more or less be wondering what open season they allow for anglers in their future though? And at what costs as well? And yes, thanks for posting Beerman.
  18. SUMMER Squeezing all necessary work inbetween vacations has become the hectic summer ritual. Busy ER's, two trips to Nipigon and one to Kesagami put me on tilt this past summer, yet it wouldn't happen any other way. The preparation and efforts I have always shouldered for my family and friends has been a labour of love over the years, and despite the odd freeloader who takes advantage, most everyone has been helpful and thankful during those planned fishing vacations. Len and Leah's trip alongside to Nipigon, later Bren's trip with me to Kesagami, and finally an unforgettable pounding on Nipigon specks with good friend Mike, the right people made the right memories for 2013. Len’s Nipigon Laker. Kesagami Lake. AUTUMN Couple of fall reports still kinda fresh online, it seemed a quick season ending with early snow. Friends often aboard the Lund, the company was great many times over. Set out early for muskie and had best results by a landslide. The Quinte walleye bite was fast and furious, and some exercise for steel capped things off nicely. Leah came out as well, fishing all four seasons with her dad; having my youngest interested is something I hope continues. Hopefully 2014 when looking again for those muskies I find 'em too. Proud of the fishing life created and work hard at it because I love doing it so much. It has been this way since the first day float-tubing in a May ice flow on the Attawapiskat, and on through the years alone when once home in the north, exploring further into the James Bay wilderness to find a path with fishing. It was during those times when realizing just how incredible and important it all is for me, to be a part of it and to continue on with it. And so, thanks for kindly sharing it along the way. Alone, or with family & friends, this coming year we'll all continue to enjoy our fishing. Happy Holidays & Best to All in 2014. Bunk.
  19. 2013 CLOSED TO FISHING. Leaving it all here!!! With plenty of pictures, links to the years reports and videos, and decidedly a few less words than usual, this should recap 2013's days on the water chasing after any and all goals and, the great fish that were caught. A multitude of species and angling styles to experience, opportunities for growth, new knowledge, fond memories and big rewards, are things which keep me passionate and always in pursuit of a healthy and driven fishing life. Rarely slowing down, the nearly five years since relocating south to rejoin family and friends at home here in the Ottawa area, fishing has challenged me in so many more ways than I ever could have imagined it would. It's just part of existence really. Many highs and some lows throughout the day to day and upon the water, within the online communities, between friends or alone, the most important lessons have been... to be true, to be real, to be myself, to work hard, to trust carefully, to enjoy more and more, to share with those important, to back down to no one, to speak up, to let go and to leave behind, to continue on with what works, to challenge, to want, to balance, to love, to live, to fish. Along with age and experience comes an importance of trying to honor these long understood lessons, that much more, and to ultimately be happy and hopeful moving forward. Fishing can take us to great and interesting places. 2014's a coming and so this chapter will close in preparing to fish on. WINTER Plenty of days on ice hunting local lakers, along with a few different outings for pike, eyes and whiteys, kept the action through the winter season super steady. With trips to Costa Rica and Maniwaki Quebec too, friends and family alongside we were able to enjoy some serious vacation fun. 2014 the goal is to ice a best lake trout and relive some of the serious numbers walleye and big pike fishing I was once used to up north. With the snow we've been getting, the snowmobile should see some more miles too. Tried Lake O for lakers and popped a goody, jigged up a pile of 'em too on inland lakes. Early season crappies, opener walleyes, pike, then later bass kept things busy. First time ever taking a couple cracks at spring steel were successful and of course, plenty of miles and miles of toothy gar were my highlights of spring. 2014 I'd be happy just to do it all over again. No trips planned of yet, but trying to make different ideas come together. 20. If not already having pretty well all St.Croix rods ( with one Berkeley and a Rapala), I'd probably look at the Fenwick.sticks. So far more than happy with St.Croix. Not so much with their longer rods these days though.
  21. Christmas Happy Merry HoHoHo Joy Holiday to all.
  22. Hafta work every second Christmas. This year was a year to work, but another person wanted a switch. Now next Christmas will be off too. Gladly work New Years instead.
  23. Lakes aren't owned, just the camps upon them. Being that they are remote access and in many cases leased land, then it often works out that the lake is pretty well only used by the camp owners and patrons. If Partridge was included, then that means Moose Cree with Cochrane Air has the monopoly now for Kesagami Lake and, Maurice with True North must have reached an agreement that suited his needs. This is excellent for both, and only time will tell how the Partridge Lake camp will be managed. Glad to have been there with Brenda last August, to enjoy it one last time the way Maurice ran it.
  24. A buddy has many times over mentioned his wanting to go to Manitoba's Duck Mountain area (Dauphin) to fish trout there. Browns, bows, specks, lakers, arctic char and tiger trout all relatively near one another. They are one gnarly looking hybrid. Would be great if instead of say maybe splake they could try stocking some Ontario waters with them.
