  1. ...and some washin up water, and some bait, and a vehicle your comfortable with cruisin the lake, and probably an extra bucket and bag for the crapper...oh ya, some extra cash if you don't have any of the above... edited to add: bring a very happy-go-lucky attitude...or you will argue with this guy.
  2. Sounds about right...
  3. Last June at Lakair, I was lucky enough to win beautiful Spiel custom light 6'6" spinning rod in a raffle. I didn't have a decent reel for it all of last summer and didn't use it as much as I would have liked. For Christmas I got a new Stradic 1000FI reel for it (only seen ice duty so far) so I'm looking forward to getting more use from the rod, sure to become one of my favourites. Looks to be a dandy panfish, light jigging and small crankbait rod.
  4. You have no idea...don't make me dig up my "review" from a few years ago.
  5. If only that was the only concern...
  6. Best ice conditions in Ontario right here, I bet.
  7. Good luck with that place. Prepare for alot of There may be a good reason why there are no recent posts...
  8. ...looks to be a "+7" right now, is that not that good???
  9. Always an option to not click on the thread to begin with...

    Booming ice

Well that's our usual "go to" excuse...Cold Front!!!
  12. Last night we were out on Buckhorn for a couple hours and did rather poorly compared to most evenings over the last couple weeks. Usually we've been getting a steady perch bite until almost sundown, then a brief lull and then a pretty good crappie bite for half an hour or so. Last night the bite was almost completely shut down. The ice was angry with an almost constant rumble like a thunder storm with lots of sharp cracks, whacks and bangs. Making ice I guess with the cold temps and no snow cover. Do ya think this effects the fish? We're only on top of 8 or 9 feet of water so I imagine the fish must feel the vibrations from the cracking ice, it was about as loud as I've ever heard it.
  13. I use 50# Power Pro on my MH rod, but only 30# on my lighter medium action baitcasters with no issues. Backlashes occasionally happen, but usually it's user error. Actual line diameter is usually listed on the box.
  14. Geez, I learned that just from watching Platoon.
  15. What operator are you staying with?
  16. How many models to they have? I got a new one for Christmas, it's a #MD 2053.
  17. If you're ever fishing the Tri-Lakes, Jesse'e Tap & Grill in Ennismore is always worth a visit. I second the Peppermill in Carnarvon, for simpler fare in the area the Millpond is a good bet.
  18. ...you mean when he passed off on a 2 on 0???
  19. They must have wired the drive to direct power to keep it spinning like that. Most of these new front loaders won't spin if you put a towel in sideways.
  20. You'll just end up using twice as much...
  21. Another vote for the new ice fishing season in the Kawarthas. We seem to get earlier, better and safer ice than most other places (within reason). I was just out last night on Buckhorn with my truck on 12"+ of solid black ice, unfortunately only a rockbass to show for it. Chemong has similar ice, this past weekend we were out on at least 11" or 12". Funny that one of the arguments against opening a winter season around here was perceived poor ice conditions. Of course there are plenty of places on the Tri-Lakes a vehicle (or sled, ATV or on foot) should never tread, but that's the same on many waterbodies.
  22. Mars Marine on Chemong usually has slips available. Not alot of ammenities, but you get a dock with power available. I'm not sure of the going rate, my buddy docks his 16' boat there in trade for cutting the grass.
  23. ...note to self...no more appliance repair advice from Paul.
  24. Mike, I use my truck just about exactly as you do with maybe a weekly trip or two to Bridgenorth and back (20km round trip) and my truck starts instantly no matter how cold. There are times the truck may have sat for almost a month between starts. Original battery lasted about seven years and I have about four years into the replacement. My guess is you need a new battery and if it's only a few years old, maybe an alternator.
  25. I don't know much about the aftermarket systems, but I used to have a factory remote-start on my '05 Chevy Malibu and it was great, I miss it immensely on those frosty mornings. Didn't waste alot of that precious fuel either, it would shut itself off after 10 minutes if the key wasn't inserted within that time, just enough to de-frost the windows and get a little heat. I probably waste more now at times with the Civic by going out and starting it and going back in the house, getting caught up in something (usually OFC) and the car runs on for half an hour or more in the driveway.
