  1. Had an awesome day at Idyl Tymes 3 weeks ago, so we went back on our own this past weekend. While the fishing wasnt the best this time it was just fun to bomb around the lake in the truck and drill holes!
  2. Bill, my buddies went up a couple years ago. They used the portage service for their 17&19ft lunds and camped out on crown land. Totally do-able. Maybe if Steve sees this he'll chime in.
  3. Scorpion = Curado Metanium = Chronarch

  5. The Navionics app is great, if you have a backup power source. The battery in the iPhone doesn't last very long with Navionics/GPS, especially since you need to increase the auto-lock time to use the app properly. I prefer my Garmin handheld because i can get a 36 hours out of a good set of lithiums or Sanyo Eneloop rechargables.
  6. Love my merrells. I have a model with gore-tex, but they also have some models with their own proprietary waterproofing which are cheaper. The pair I have has a nice sticky vibram sole which is good if you're going to be on the escarpment where there's lOts of wet rock.
  7. Have it shipped to the UPS store in Lewiston, NY. They will hold it for you for a small fee until you pick it up. How you get it back across the border is up to you. Some remove all packaging and put everything in a plano/tackle box. I recommend declaring everything and paying the duty/taxes if applicable.
  8. My snowboard pants/jacket are the same 2L Gore-Tex as my Pro Qualifier suit. That being said, I would just be worried about trekking through the bush in my rain suit, in case you happen to snag a thorn or branch and cause a rip/tear.
  9. Here are a couple screenshots from MapSource @ 1 and 1.5 mile scale. Top is the US Recreational Lakes with Fishing Hot Spots. Bottom is BlueChart 2008. You can zoom in to 80ft.
  10. Another option that can be free if you know what you're doing is to get the Garmin MapSource software and a copy of US Fishing Hotspots maps(East/Central I think) or Bluechart Americas. This will allow you to take screenshots at any detail level/height and stitch them together in photoshop. There used to be some 3rd party software that would let you select a section of the map and the height you wanted and it would stitch it together for you, but I can't find it any more. Edit: correct map name is "U.S. Recreational Lakes with Fishing Hot Spots East"
  11. I also have a 12 week old chocolate lab. Boy do they ever grow fast! We named him Moose when we got him at 7 weeks.
  12. Here's a shot of a chair lift at the top of a hill, the snow is over the chair!
  13. My handheld 60CSx will usually have about 3-5 meter accuracy.
  14. Since the reel and guides on a baitcaster sit on top of the rod, there is torsion/torque put on the blank when pressure is applied to the line. I believe the spiral wrapping minimizes this, causing less twisting and stress to the blank. What benefit this gives the user, I couldn't tell you. There is actually a diagram kicking around somewhere showing a spiral and conventional wrap loaded up and you can actually see the effects of the torsion on the conventionally wrapped rod. I'm on the train at the moment, but I'll look for it when I get home.
  15. A colleague just moved out there and had his stuff moved by Atlas and his car loaded on a train. He flew out via westjet
  16. To be released in the new year: <br /> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qtzL2pt3sTY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  17. I bought the top-of-line turtle beach headset, but I had to return it due to bad sound quality. I'm no audiophile, but I just didn't feel the sound quality was there. I ordered a set of Astro A40s before returning the turtle beach set, just to see the difference. My setup is a Xbox 360 connected via optical cable to a pioneer elite receiver, so the source is pretty solid. In CoD I could hear even the faintest footsteps in my vacinity. The Astro's sounded better than my Reference Series speakers! The TBs went back and the rest is history. Plus the wife doesn't think there is a war going on in our living room at 1am anymore.
  18. Had you been fishing the 1st annual "slam the lamb" tournament on Saturday, and concentrating on sheepers, you surely would have got some of those pesky walleye! Almost always works the other way around!

  20. My first oil change went exactly like that, minus DUI and Imprisonment. An full synthetic oil change for my truck is approaching $90. I can buy the oil and filter for $55.
  21. What kind of contraption do you use to tow you in those urban environments?
  22. Lineup for tonight: http://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/nhl/mapleleafs/article/1055936--leafs-set-lineup-for-first-exhibition-game-against-sens
  23. I'm still in awe that we can catch 6lb bass, and retire to the camp fire and watch the Northern Lights. Unfortunetly when I say "we" can catch 6lb bass, I mean my brother-in-law
  24. The issue you're experiencing is probably the result of your spool getting wet, the line expanding, then drying. When the line dries it doesn't tighten back up and you're left with loose line and slipping. My preferred method of spooling braid is to use the foam stickies that come with a retail pack of PowerPro, and attach the line to the spool with an Arbor Knot.
  25. Deep water largemouth are tough to figure out .I would start off throwing cranks, big cranks! Probably a BD6/7 in some sort of chartreuse variety. Banging it off bottom, you're bound to get a hit. if that's not working, I would start throwing a shallower crank like a SPRO little John or fat John 60. These will be better for schooling fish if there are no big boys hanging out below. Also, you can't go wrong with a spinnerbait. If you're moving back into the bays, any Texas rigged plastic, or top water frog should get the job done. Font forget the transition areas between the bays and the river. These can be money spots. If the current is in your favor drop a wacky weighted senko down right on the break, especially If there are weeds.
