  1. Welcome! Lots of fishing to do in and around the Hammer.
  2. My girlfriend got suckered by these fast talking salesmen once. She was so proud, and then I had her read the contract and showed her what the rate we were currently paying was. She was on the phone the next morning. Too bad you waited until you got your first bill.
  3. Here's another sheep from Hamilton Bay, got this back in may fishing for Pike.
  4. I usually run a rods length of 15-20lb fluorocarbon when fishing bottom contact baits (senko, shakey head, sweet beaver), as well as spinner baits. No swivels or snaps, a direct connection between the braid and fluoro, and fluoro to lure. The more swivels and crap you add to your rig, the more changes for failure. If you rig your baits right, there should be no concern of line twist. I will usually run a uni-uni connection between the fluoro and brair, but I've come to find that it's just a bit too bulky of a knot when passing through line guides. When it's tied correctly I find double or tripple surgeons knot to be the best depending on the diameter difference between the braid and fluoro you're connecting.
  5. That changes real fast when you're spending $300 on a pair of sunglasses. I have polarized Oakleys that have lasted me 4 years already.
  6. I started off using Daiwa, but quickly found that if you don't spend the money on the good JDM models ($400+), there is really no comparison. Shimano excels at producing a $200 reel. My current arsenal includes 2 Curado Es, a Chronarch B, and a Core MgFV. I will usually stay away from any reel not made in Japan, as the rest which are made in Malaysia and Taiwan and China do not have the tight tolerances in their tooling required to make a smooth reel, especially one that lasts. The Zillion from Daiwa is a nice reel, but it's sill not down to the Curado Es price point.
  7. I have a ZR2 Blazer, and notice other ZR2 owners will usually give a little wave or nod.
  8. Here are some quotes from ontariobassfishing.net Smallmouth Largemouth I didn't see any references/citations, so you should probably take this with a grain of salt.
  9. I might be wrong, but that looks like it's for boats that have a factory track system already installed.
  10. Since you got the Stradic MgFB, I hope you ordered from Tackle Warehouse. Sweet deal going on right now for that reel. I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure my last two orders from them were duty free.
  11. We're very happy with our VOIP from Cogeco. The modem even has a battery backup in it. Never had any problems except for the odd echo.
  12. As long as you trim the motor up, you're fine. Same with Binbrook.
  13. I hope the fishing is better this weekend than last. We didn't even get a sniff of a pike.
  14. The new models (FI) have a one piece bail wire/line guide. Same with the Saros. I would retire the old stradic and jump into a new Saros. They can be had for $120 on sale, cheaper if you try the auction site. I suggest the Saros because it's cheaper, and performs just as good as the Stradic FI. If you're not in a situation to pick up a new reel, super glue will work, just make sure you taper it from the bail wire up to the line guide.
  15. Here is a quote from the MNR website. Link
  16. Sorry man, no net on this planet is worth a 5KM walk.
  17. Yes, good eye. All 3 fish are from Quinte, wierd.
  18. It's almost required when using fluorocarbon on a baitcaster.
  19. Are you going by yourself? We launch at Maitland in November to fish Erie smallies. No dock required. 2 person job though. One to back the boat in and one to back the boat off. And just hover around until the driver is ready to hop aboard. If you're going by yourself though, you might want to launch in Dunnville or at Fishmasters (both pay launches).

    Trigger X

I saw a guy stocking them at a Canadian Tire in Hamilton a couple weeks ago.
  21. You could also try Cemetery Point, a little off the beaten path. Should be able to land some bullhead and channel cat there. If you drop by Bills Bait and Tackle on Upper James, Greg or Tim should be able to tell you what's hitting and where.
  22. The entire main bay is open, the channel at Bay Front was still half clogged with ice, but didn't look too thick. You can launch at LaSallle in Burlington right now, or try the Yacht Club (Follow Bay St. past Bay Front and it's on your left). The water was really muddy yesterday.
  23. Modulus refers to the stiffness to weight ratio of the graphite that's used to create the rod blank. IM stands for Intermediate Modulus, and there is no set industry standard for IM ratings, but rather a range of modulus' which these ratings fall under. For instance, an IM6 blank from one manufacturer might be higher or lower modulus than one from another, but within reason. The higher the modulus of the graphite means you get more stiffness for the weight of the material. This allows the blanks to be made with a smaller diameter but achieve the same stiffness of a larger diameter blank, but weighing less. High modulus graphite tends to be more brittle, and that can result is cracks and fractures from jigheads and other heavy baits hitting the blank, resulting it failure. The process to create higher modulus graphite is apparently very costly, and as such, is passed on to us, the consumer. Hope this helps, Bryan
