  1. Not exactly what I wanted to hear, as I was looking to pick up a GoPro Hero HD before our trip north for a week of bass fishing. Do the picture quality issues effect all formats (1080/960/720)? I think I'd be more interested in shooting in 720p @ 60fps than 1080p @ 30.
  2. Wierd, nothing here at King&Simcoe, downtown Toronto. Our building is over 100 years old and we thought it was coming down when the little quake hit last year.
  3. Just a heads up! The current Compre (as well as Convergence, Clarus, Crucial) has been discontinued. If you want a model with cork handle, get it now. All the rods coming out in the fall have had their blanks bumped up one level of graphite, but all handles on the bass rods will be EVA. As well, the Stradic FI has also been discontinued, in favor of the new Stradic FJ. Make sure if you're buying what's in stores now, you don't pay full price. http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/rods/freshwater/Compre_Bass_Spinning.html http://fish.shimano....s_Casting0.html http://fish.shimano....2011_reels.html
  4. Nice report. Have you been fishin the flutter spoon at all this season? I assume the recent article in OOD was written from last years experience...
  5. It Looks like the template is still referencing the images from the old URL
  6. Nice fish, whatdid it hit? If his measurement was correct, that fish is easily 5+.
  7. I tossed cranks for a couple hours last night on 20lb 832. Not a single issue. The line is very supple and casts great. I didn't have any wrapping problems, although I wasn't fishing contact baits, and I'm assuming that's where people are experiencing problems. One thing people aren't getting though, is that wrapping is a trade-off of a supple line. You WILL experience tip-wrap. Wind will make it even worse. I will stick to PowerPro for my bottom/contact presentations, and keep 832 for my reaction/moving baits, due to the casting efficiency.
  8. Well, if you don't like the 832 there is going to be a new entry from Shimano/Powerpro coming out before the end of the summer. This is the 2012 Stradic FJ spooled with "PowerPro Super 8 Slick"
  9. She was sitting in about 3.5-4ft of water, right on the edge of a bed of pencil reeds. Hands down most sensitive rod (almost too sensitive sometimes, crazy, I know!) I've ever used. People talk about GLX being an extension of your arm, well I might as well just cut off my arm and replace it with an NRX!
  10. Thanks for all the replies. While it was a great catch, it was already obsolete in our friendly derby between the 5 of us on the trip. My buddy had caught his PB 5lb 10oz 2 days before and it held to take the money!
  11. I'm way too lazy after 8 straight days of bass fishing for a full blown report, so here she is. My new PB largemouth. Caught on a 7'5 NRX, 1/4oz Buckeye Mop Jig Can't wait for September, where this girl and the 5lb 10oz my buddy caught should be pushing 6.
  12. I've been using braid for 3 or 4 years, on everything! When a spinning reel gets a loop knot, I cut it off above the knot and magically it doesn't happen again. People saying mono backing stopped their looping issues are kidding themselves. I have never used backing, sometimes when I have a retail package of power pro I will use the little foam sticky pad that comes with it, but an arbor knot tightened down is usually all I use. from my experience loop knots happen for two reasons; first is cranking the reel to close the bail, and second is overfilling the spool. Everyone is guilty of overfilling spools, they don't want to see a couple dozen yards of the $20 spool of braid wasted, myself included. I've had it happen on 1000-3000 size reels, 10-30lb braid. I always close my bail by hand, and any time I've had a loop knot simply cutting above it has solved the problem. Maybe everybody's idea of overfilling a spool is different, but i like to see at least a couple mm of the lip of the spool. Also, buying bulk spools will give you peace of mind when filllig up because you can put the proper amount of line on and not feel like you're wasting any.
  13. I have a Flickr account and use their iPhone app to upload my pictures, then copy the code into my post.
  14. On a lighter note, I'd like to applaud ShiLoomis for pricing the NRX rods within $25 of their American counterparts.
  15. When my '01 chevy did the same thing (blinking lights) it was a rotten vacuum line going to the actuator under the battery tray. Mine might be a different setup though, it was 4 button auto-trac.
  16. I personally would never spend money on live bait to fish for sheepshead. Medium to deep diving cranks and jerks fished in 15-30fow work just as well and we consistently catch double digit fish. From the end of May until bass opener, when the big lake is too rough this is a great way to kill some time in the harbor.
  17. If you're fishing for smallies, you should be wacky rigging them on a #1 work hook, or dropshotting them.
  18. I just had to warranty a loomis rod. They sent a CanPar guy to my work to pick it up and ship to peterborough, verified it was indeed a warranty issue, and ordered me a new one from the factory, and shipped to my door. Cost to me? Free. But I think the days of over-the-counter warranty are pretty much over.
  19. 3/8th oz white spinnerbait, Dropshot, shakeyhead, a tube and throw in a lipless crank for good measure.
  20. guess what, there's a huge difference between pointing a firearm at something that is living, breathing and walking. Making sure that living, breathing thing is not a human being is a lot more important than trying to identify a fish after you've caught it. So you think the consequences are the same if you accidentally shoot a human, mistaking it for somethig else, compared to keeping an OOS fish?
  21. Bingo! Awesome senko rod, I had been using it for senkos when I got a new Cumara for dropshotting. Its has an amazingly sensitive tip and the backbone starts really late but comes on fast. Now the crucial will be retired in favour of a nrx852 spinning rod. Can't wait for opener!
  22. Pretty much any 7' medium/extra-fast rod will do for senkos. If you're thinking about throwing in cover, maybe bump that up to a medium-heavy. You can probably find a nice 7ft gl3 or crucial in your midrange price.
  23. I only fish with braid mainline, and fluorocarbon leaders. Line to leader: albright special Line to lure: Palomar
