  1. 3/4 inch ply with some paint or stain...you cant go wrong.
  2. my bad...go figure lower buckhorn is north of upper buckhorn! Ive always heard the fishing is better on lower than upper anyways! I stand corrected, i was on upper buckhorn.
  3. the bridge to pigeon off of LB is where I saw everyone fishing for pickerel. There is musky and giant carp there as well.
  4. my buddy has a trailer in Theona park...theyve caught a bunch of 4's and 5's. The park fishing derby last weekend produced a 7. The consistency is just off this year, been hard slugging for the bigger guys.
  5. LB produces every time I go, made an annual trip there in July and caught a pile. The size recently in comparison to previous years has fallen off a bit. I think the hard winter might have something to do with it. But the consistency in regards to quantity is always there. Thanks for the update.
  6. im surprised no "ladies died" get it? *rimshot*
  7. unbelievable, hopefully my cottages resident baby gar grows as big as one of these cows some day.
  8. Hey Guys, I guess this is the place where i can formally introduce myself. My name is Scott and I have been fishing pretty much from the time I was old enough to hold a fishing rod. I was born in Flin Flon Manitoba, hence my families passion for pickerel fishing. As time went on my families interest in fishing definitely declined until our family purchased a cottage in the pointe au baril region in 2008. Since that point my interest in fishing has steadily increased year after year until reaching a real peak. I can definitely say that this year has been the first year where I feel like I am beginning to obsess over fishing and I think being a member of this forum has something to do with it. I have spent a lot of years blindly attempting to figure things out on my own as my immediate family has less interest in fishing other species therefore they rely on me for any knowledge that I am able to gain through research and trial and error. I am definitely the most committed fisherman in my family. I do most of my fishing solo, therefore being part of this community and specifically speaking to a few knowledgeable individuals directly has helped me gain more knowledge in a 3 month time span than I have learnt in my entire life. Personally I mainly target pickerels in the spring and fall, laketrout, pike, largemouths and starting this year have taken a big interest in smallmouth bass fishing. I specifically really look forward to the day that I know enough to be able to share my personal experiences and lessons with my nephews (kids someday) and people in this community in the same way that people have taught me over the years. Tight Lines.
  9. so the elusive GB King does still exist...very rare
  10. weighing 230 pounds is healthier than smoking. Any one in the medical field willing to back this point? Being a bit overweight causes nowhere near the damage to your body that smoking does.
  11. good job bill i hope the friggin thing died. These birds are becoming ridiculous in our area, the poor loons have nowhere to go anymore. A year ago i witnessed a family out fishing with bobbers and obviously a live minnow underneath, needless to say a persistent circling bird put on a hilarious show for a good 15 minutes before the family was able to scare the bird away ahaha.
  12. man absolutely sick haul for a day out. Well done.
  13. a wet buff would actually feel awesome on a hot day, this might be a great idea.
  14. seems the laker bite was happening this weekend, my dad caught his first as well!
  15. Australians use zinc oxide, Thats my buddy off the coast of queensland. Ya it makes you have white lips but its the best way to protect yourself. Down there this stuff is a 100% necessity as the sun will destroy you after an afternoon out on the water. Put it this way, i never wear sun screen ever in Ontario. The most i get is a mild burn at the very begining of the season and from then on never burn peel or anything. Down there I walked for 15 minutes without a shirt or sunscreen on and got the worst burn of my life.
  16. The year started pretty well for me, i even had a great day out on Canada day catching pickerels, which is usually a dead weekend by that point as things really slow down once the water warms up on the bay. Made a trip to the Kawarthas in July and caught a boat load of fish, but really struggled with size. And then things have come to a screeching halt. Ive put close to 30 hours in fishing since that trip to the kawarthas and all i have to show for it is 1 small mouth and 1 small pike. I am hoping the continued high water levels in Georgian Bay (relatively) makes for a better run in the rivers come October/November...we shall see.
  17. Yes this works as well, whatever you do, do not use Goof Off...it will destroy your clearcoat.
  18. get yourself a clay bar with a bottle of quick detailer, rub the clay on the bugs until they are gone! Also tell your pops to wax his car more, it makes stuff easier to get off!
  19. I am fairly new here but have been lucky enough to have a few members reach out to me directly and share their knowledge with me. Perhaps the knowledge is not as openly shared in open threads, but spoken through direct messages. Some people here have been more than willing to help. Dont ever expect someone to give you their spots on a lake unless you are in the boat with them, or you are young and good looking...thats how i got my pickerel spots from the elderly lady at my local bait shop
  20. so what this is saying is after a tournament, fish where the release area was lol.
  21. had a convo with an OPP officer in the area just a couple of weeks ago. She said that you can easily catch these guys doing all sorts of illegal stuff, but will you ever get anywhere with actually making an attempt to make an arrest? Nope... Cops cant even get onto the reserve when people are wanted for serious crimes, never mind recovering an ATV. File the insurance claim
  22. im spoiled i guess...I have a cottage so that is where I fish.
  23. funny how everyone is posting these insane distances and claiming it takes an hour and questioning whether its reasonable. We live in Toronto the Gridlock capital of the world lol. Friends, let me explain how there is no escape. I live at Dufferin and Eglington 5.2 kilometers from my job at Yonge and St clair. A car takes half an hour, the TTC takes anywhere from 35 to 60 minutes! I recently started risking my life and riding a bike every day. It has gotten my commute down to 15 minutes, but unless you are young and crazy like myself it isnt worth the risk aha. This whole GTA is a joke!
  24. i thought this was a timelapse for sure...crazy detail! the speed is insane!
  25. wont be back on the water until the weekend after the long weekend...how am i going to stay sane?
