  1. im hoping by next weekend that these 20 degree temperatures will start getting things moving. 2 weeks of sunny days and 20 degree weather should get the surface warm pretty quick. Id imagine the pike are now finally spawning as we speak.
  2. My question was because for 45 dollars i could buy the fishing specific ones, anyone have any experience with the Kobalt 8 inch bolt cutters? I dont need professional line men pliers, yes they are going to work the best, but if 10 dollar bolt cutters will cut a hook then that is what i will work with
  3. Can I ask everyone's opinion on a set of bolt cutters. I know there are plenty of fishing specific ones that run 60 bucks, but is there anything wrong with a set of Kobalt 8 inch bolt cutters?
  4. ill be heading back up to Pointe au Baril next weekend, we are hoping by then the water will be into the mid 50's maybe even 60 (fingers crossed) I am kind of hoping that this week will get the spawn out of the way so that the pike are hungry, this weekend might be a complete bust with the pike spawning rather than eating. The lake looks very very dead, even when we found the panfish suspended deep they were not interested at all. Re water levels, the water came up so high during a storm this spring that our marine rail system got submerged and our winch ended up filling with water and then freezing. Our fibreglass now is stuck on the rail until further notice. Im hoping that all of these crazy high water levels are going to provide some fantastic spawning habitat for the fish as many of the small shore trees and reeds are now submerged. I found one spot that 4 years ago was tall reeds and small saplings with a river flowing out through them, that now holds 2 feet of water...and the river is now back 100 yards into the bush.
  5. Finally hit the softwater for the first time this past weekend with the floats and needless to say, things are wayyyy behind on GB. First day on the water on Friday it was snowing and the water temps were ranging from 35 to 38. Needless to say a change of tactics ensued. The fish were still suspending in winter mode in 40 FOW. moving along a rock wall drop off my buddy hooked into a 35 inch pike on his panfish gear and the pike was shooting roe. I dont think I ever remember a year where the Pike hadnt even spawned at the begining of May. Tough sluggin to say the least! By the late afternoon saturday the sun helped the water reach the 39-41 range, but looks like it might be a tough opener this year!
  6. lucky guy!
  7. looks like we will be banging ice in the tinner tomorrow, look out crapolas!

  8. 30 inch walleye, now thats a mission. Hope you plan on spending some time on quinte
  9. man the red sox are making moves, im interested to see how they fare against some real competition though.
  10. great write up, you need to write a book of your thoughts.
  11. I started participating in OFC last August and since that time a few very generous friendly knowledgeable members have provided more guidance than any person could ask for. The interesting thing for me is that I can pin point the exact day that my fishing addiction went off the charts and that was the day that after long discussions about tactics and presenations, I caught my first top water Georgian Bay Smallmouth. From that day I have been fully addicted to fishing. The best part is that 2 of my great friends are also enthusiastic about fishing and feeding off of eachother our passion for fishing has grown even more. Collectively we have agreed on a set of goals for this season. 1. a 4+lb smallie or a 5lb largie 2. Kawarthas Musky 35" or more 3. Personally, a 15+lb northern.
  12. Pick up a couple pieces of trash today for earth day. If everyone in the forum picked up 2 pieces it would make a difference!

  13. I cant tell you how badly I want the sweep Bill
  14. that jets game was entertaining, and the crowd was just the best. Its a shame that they couldnt hold the lead I was really cheering for them. Oh well.
  15. shoot deer, they taste more delicious anyways.
  16. hopefully I can get into something Saturday, Bill's convinced me to give err the old shot. Never caught a brown in my life, so it should be interesting.
  17. ive wanted to fish those shallows of jordan for a while, my girlfriends parents have a place 10 minutes from there. It was torture eating lunch at the lake house watching folks troll through there.
  18. that karlson hit is as clean as can be, he hit shoulder to shoulder, the impact was so extreme that the momentum cause the rest of his body to subsequently also collide with karlson. The refs didnt do the best job in that game, but at the end of it the better team won. We once again see that goaltending is about 60% of the equation. I can tell you Price wouldnt have let that OT winner in and that's the difference maker. Id be surprised to see either goalies in Ottawa next year. I think Montreal might actually sweep, Ottawa just isnt big enough to slow Montreal down, its going to take one of the big bruising teams to stop them and the way you will beat montreal is to keep them off the score sheet. I am not sure anyone in the east is capable. Jesus Montreal should be pretty happy about not having to play Winnipeg or the Ducks, everyone would have broken wrists then.
  19. http://www.stthomastimesjournal.com/2012/12/27/mnr-lays-financial-charge-after-a-ridgetown-resident-disrupts-two-men-attempting-to-harvest-geese-on-private-property this seems to happen more often than youd think. What she did is against the law, call the cops so that she doesn't do it again.
  20. remember the golden goal? No one hated crosby then. The guy has already done it all and hes only 28.
  21. driving distance is a lot like sizing caught fish. I know one guy that can drive the ball 300 and hes got a card. I think your concerns about hitting 250 are because you are the only one being honest. The longest par 5's are only 550 yards, if you hit 250 on your drive and then 2 shots at 150 you are GIR even on a really long par 4 at most you will be 180 out. the best golfers i know all <10 handicap 2 putt or less every hole and dont miss from short. Scoring is done from <50 yards.
  22. Big Buck, NH is one of my favourite courses of all time, and ive played some pretty prestigious ones. If anyone is in the GB area Parry Sound is an unbelievably good track for a fantastic value. I suggest early tee times as pace can be horrible on a Saturday, just like any other public course. The course itself has some absolutely stunning holes encompassing the natural rocky surroundings, I highly highly recommend it. Guys all complaining about the driver, boys dont you remember? Shoot for show putt for dough, 60 percent of strokes are on the green!
  23. I really enjoyed the Pittsburgh Ny game and that Jets game for the first period before it was bed time was awesome. You can be sure ill be watching the central time games. The detroit lightning game was kinda meh same goes with the St Louis Minnesota game. I thought the blues were gonna look better, they are probably gonna go out first round yet again.
  24. i used to golf a lot in highschool, was a member at North Halton GCC in Georgetown for 3 years handicap was down into the 18 range. Now im lucky if i get out 3 times a year and break 100 ughhh. Its too friggin expensive for a 20 something with a mortgage. Im garbage but my friends are all damn good. The guy i golf with the most is a CPGA pro. Ive gotten to play some fantastic courses simply because I was with him. Usually during a break in teh summer i get out to Parry Sound Golf and Country Club, shot my best round ever there an 87!
