being on georgian bay and only starting to take fishing really serious a couple of years ago its been an adventure...for me its deep weeds, if you can find deep green weeds, you are going to find fish. Especially anywhere a weed bed sits with deep water near by, you are going to find all sorts of fish. The interesting thing about this is that no GPS is going to find deep weeds for you, but a sonar will.

ive always wondered about fish being caught multiple times. E.g. when ive caught a 15 year old walleye, something tells me that somewhere along in its life its probably been caught and released. I still dont see how they measure "metabolic rate"

weve got some weeks to go up on GB, but ill be doing the same thing ive been doing since the begining of may chasing big pike, tossing #5 musky killers and #8 inlines. my musky targeting on GB is accidentally catch a musky while fishing for pike lol. (still waiting to win the lottery)

seconded to what bill said, we were out on a small lake near emsdale, hit the water and the bugs went right down, there were a few but totally manageable, as soon as we hit land though, good lord. Even more so as we walked the bush trail back to the car, holy mother of god. I almost took a video it was so intense. You know its crazy when an iphone video would have easily picked up the skitter storm. Fresh moose tracks were found between the time we went out and 4 hours later when we came in...i have no idea how those poor creatures live full time in it.

rest in peace, so crazy i was just in emsdale for the first time over the weekend. Got a buddy who just moved there, too bad he will never get to try out the bangers.

My brother was up at the cottage In Pointe Au Baril over the weekend and said it was the absolute worst bugs he has ever seen in his entire life, the mosquitos were even worse than when we lived in Flin Flon Manitoba...Both the black flies and the skeeters were out in full effect because it was cloudy and damp. dont think this is the news youd like to hear lol but I may as well be honest. I was in Emsdale over the weekend and the skitos were giving err pretty hard too there, but not many black flies.

Lets be serious here, I think the large majority of the members of this community would be willing to pay 500+ dollars a year to buy a fishing license if it meant that enforcement was extremely strict and seasons were open with limitations regarding catch and release. But lets be honest, that would never happen although I wish it would.

its a protection thing. Bass are absolutely veracious during spawn. They will basically be caught by anything that moves therefore in order to protect them while they are vulnerable, they close the season. Of course people constantly catch them, and its well known that bass are being caught a lot inadvertently, however it does protect them from bass fisherman specifically targeting them and putting pressure on the fish at a vulnerable time.

Im interested to see if they will ever explain what happened to him. If they can still tell from the remains or not. I am glad to hear his family has finally gotten the closure they needed.

this makes me feel a bit better...my nephew hooked into an absolute beast last year but being 10 he was having a hard time keeping the fish under control and it ended up swinging around the nose of the tinner and cutting his line...all i could think about was that the crank he had hooked it on was going to kill the fish. now I dont feel so bad.

bought a buff to use while fishing flats in mexico, thought id never use it again in Ontario until i realized that its the best insect repellent you can buy lol. Blackflies are insanity right now in Pointe Au Baril, been pulling the buff up over my ears and face...a quick spray of muskol on the forehead where my hats not covering and I am invincible.

As mentioned earlier the bear began eating his leg, he then gave it a hard enough time that it moved away for a bit, it then came back and started eating it again and then finally he was able to convince the bear that eating his leg while getting its eyes gouged wasnt worth it. My understanding is that he was able to call for help and be rescued. He saved his leg, but im pretty sure its still pretty severely damaged. My cousin made a point to take his boy to see him in the hospital and be aware of just how seriously hurt his "uncle/godfather" really was. He wanted to insure that his son had a respect for the wilderness and what can happen. My cousin lives off the grid outside of Hinton Alberta. I went out and visited him last year and Grizzlies are no joke, you should see what they can do to a tree when sharpening their claws.

black bears are usually totally ok, however brown bears....you are quiet simply food to them. My cousins best friend was mauled by a brown in Alberta, the thing clamped onto his head and then started eating his leg. it then left for a bit and left buddy dying, he then came back and started eating his leg some more, the guy finally convinced the bear that he wasnt worth the tasty meal after gouging its eyes enough. He then was rescued and survived but was in intensive care for months. They are no friggin joke.
