Free lodging in that area = no brainer. You gotta go! -
Killarney Provincial Park smallmouth and more

Way to go -- trying out a new tactic is always nice when you get rewarded with fish. And you sure got into some quality fish.....plus scenery....sounds like quite the place...don't know why I've never visited yet. -
Gotta love the Chapleau region....nicely done. Always worth the effort to get back into those lakes...thanks for posting

Anyone interested in doing this with me

Now I 've heard tell, that if...just if... you behave yourself, Lloyd might let you have a nap up in the cozy cabin between fish -
Well it has its fair share of stress, but having the weekends off is AWESOME...every weekend is like a mini-vacation Not that I am getting a TON of fishing with little miss baby-pants crawling around the place....but I'm not going insane either...so it's all good.

Awesome fish -- good on you for releasing it! Gotta be 5 and change....wow!

Looks like a great week at the cottage! Good fishing, lots of family fun...doesn't get much better Thanks for posting it up!

For whatever reason, it doesn't matter what kind of report you post, pal....they are always a pleasure to read. What a beautiful place your parents have...and the pics of Jack are great....I love his two-handed stance with the rod LOL

Year-round residence + lakers = icefishing! And you're not too far from Rosseau if you can't persuade them to bite

I remember reading a tutorial on setting your fishfinder settings by Gord Pyzer, and he was talking about cranking your sensitivity way up, and that when you go a bit too high, you'll get a double image. It looks like the contour of the bottom is mirrored perfectly by the contour of the "cloud" in the middle of the screen. If that happens again, I'd notch the sensitivity down a bit and see if it disappears. OR....take Terry with you and have him drop his underwater film studio down there to see what's really happening

Good stuff, Fang! I haven't been up there once this year....really driving me crazy....but seeing your pics of the place helps

I don't go fishing in a canoe without my drift sock anymore...that would be my only recommendation...having never been to that particular lake. A place named Wasaksina sounds like the fishing won't be a problem

Amazing pics -- looks like a fantastic trip. Nice to see that result after the way things started out. I cant' believe you saw two bucks fighting....that's incredible!!!

Another vote for Lloyd Daume

Pretty sure it's a weedy bass lake....but I could be wrong. Definitely bring the 'yak though....if there's no decent fishing there, you'll have plenty of options in the surrounding area.

Congrats guys..you are now the only ones qualified to comment on "how much do you think my pb bass weighs" threads

Sigh...I went in to a Subway once....they still had the cutout on display, but the contest was over. I am so ashamed

HMMMM.....looks interesting....too bad about no lefties. Picked up a Cruxis in a leftie for the wife and I've tried it a time or two....very nice. I kind of wonder if they pump these reels out just to protect the price point of their premier reels. My Crestfire, which ran me $55 USD AND came with a rod, lasted me 13 years without so much as a tune-up or cleaning before the gear finally broke inside....probably a $25-$30 fix at Aikman's if I still want it as a back-up or icefishing cranker. My Corsair 301 was a little more than $100....maybe $160 when I bought it, but it also went a solid 10 years until needing any attention. Now I know that a Curado, or Core, or Calcutta is going to be a smoother, longer casting reel....but are they really worth the money? My wife's Cruxis is ridiculously smooth, and I haven't even taken all the brakes off yet (so I've tried it out more than a couple times )...but I really wonder if I NEED to plunk down much more than $100 when I finally replace my worn out Crestfire...????? Food for thought.

Off the Dock Toons T-Shirt Contest - Guess the Weight!
johnnyb replied to Harrison's topic in General Discussion
9.76 lbs...nice fish! -
Most effective fix I have found to combat this: take a piece of thin wire (I strip a garbage bag twist-tie down to the wire) and wrap it nice and tight around the base of the skirt, give it a few twists and clip off the extra. Virtually out of sight, doesn't impede the bait, and stays on wayyyyyy longer. As for you, EC1...the only thing I was thinking, was whether or not you're tying directly to the bait, or using a snap swivel. Although, if you WERE using a snap swivel and it slid down the arm and ripped the blade off...you'd lose the whole bait that way too...so, prolly not what the problem is. Maybe Terminator and Booyeah have just started using cheaper components...I know I had one Terminator's wire actually break, and can't remember if my Booyeah has one blade or two on it right now Nothin' wrong with an excuse to go lure shopping I guess...I have always been a fan of the Blue Fox spinnerbaits as well...nice blades, good components...never let me down.

Beautiful fish...beautiful scenery behind you. Once those things hit the 20" mark they are beasts to bring in....nicely done!

I had the same problem with the red power pro...but for whatever reason, my wife and son's reels, both Abu Cardinals, wouldn't do it as much. REally don't know if the red stuff had anything to do with it, but I've switched back to green and so far, so good. I think the biggest factor is that the stuff has to be snug when it goes on the reel, ie. keep good tension on the line. Trolling the line out with no weight is THE best way to get rid of twists though

LOL -- I have opened the Baby Rattler's box too Definitely some nice fishing in Lost Channel, but boat traffic can be a bit much. I would bet Grundy is overlooked....it's in the heart of some good fishing country.

I would do a search for cottage rentals in the Temagami area...many lakes in that area have all 3 of the species you mentioned. A few places that come to mind....Lady Evelyn Lake....Montreal River....Temiscaming....if you start searching for cottages/lodges in those areas you should find a place between now and Sept. Good Luck!

I think I`d have to head for Chapleau. Or dive off hwy 144 and find some back lakes to explore.
