Power Vessel Operator Permit(toronto harbor license)?
capt bruce replied to Oktravis's topic in General Discussion
When I first got mine (long long ago) I did it thru the TORONTO POWER SQUADRON , They must have a web page now , try there . Dont get so hot on the islands , the water there is very low this year , lots of water between bluffers and the humber , the harbour itself is not the best place to fish , get a chart and you will see lots of deep 10-20 feet weed beds close to 100 foot water all along there . good luck , B -
Im an old guy I remember just going to grand and toy and buying a big box of elastic bands , you could buy them in different test strengths like fishing line 6 pound was what we used and if we did use "releases " they were alligator clips with a shower current ring and tubeing on the jaws , RELEASES , WE DIDNT NEED NO STINKING RELEASES ,lol .

Bob call it devils hole what ever , if ever there was a place the devil would hang out it was there ,when the guy ahead of me turned into shore I sould have turned aroud , but I hesitated because it was so shallow at that point I did not waht to leave the middle of the river , I have tipped a 26 footer upside down in lake eire(lost a great dog that day me and bro made it but dog did not), put a forty footer on its side when hit by lighting on my way from T.O. to port D in lake O in the middle of the night, broken arm and thank god for harbor and hospital in grimbsy , but the current that day ripped the wheel out of my hand and just spun boat around never felt current that strong , maybe ocean guys with tides etc. but not in the great lakes , I have fished the lakes since the 70's first with my dad and than when I took over by myself ,ive been in superior in NOV, never never will I go that far up the river again . And in a dingy of all things just crazy these people are so lucky to be alive ...

Who says we do ??? Along time ago in a land far far away , we used to set up the lines (I run 6 to 8 lines depending on size of party ) and than the boys would draw cards to see who goes first second etc. , I have now been told NO CAN DO as that would be one guy fishing with 8 lines , so now eatch guy gets 2 rods and that is that , now we tag eatch fish caught with a coloured tag , blue for you red for him etc. for all kept fish . No more 8 guys plus me and deck hand means 10 limits in box , things change , do I think its right , maybe what do I know Im a fisherman not a liar ,I mean lawyer, but I trust that the guys makeing these silly (did I say silly , I ment smart , well thought out ,sorry for my spelling mistake) rules know what they are doing and even if I did not I still must follow them . just my take on things , but please do not think charters get away with things I get stopped as much if not more and checked out as anyone out on the lake .

Dont know what to say so I remain silent , solo has my respect and I tend to agree with him , but as I said Im at a loss for words as someone who makes alot of his income for fishing I WOULD NEVER place myself in any way to have something like this happen to me , sorry for you hope things work out but , WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU USEING FOR BRAINS . sorry dude I really respected you and now YOU WILL HAVE TO PROVE YOURSELF ALL OVER AGAIN ...

probably same year class , but from pics they seam to be a little different in size . Still nice fish . My buddy has a camp up north and I have caught the same one eyed bass off his dock at night every Aug for the last 4 years . I know its the same fish due to one eye is milky white and it appears to be blind in this eye . caught him /her first as a 2 pounder and this Aug it must be pulling 5 + , still going strong hope to see it again next year , catch and release does work if you handle with care .Got to love those river smallies strong fish .

Seeking OFN Community support for my Daughter
capt bruce replied to Spiel's topic in General Discussion
Got my vote , I have been trying to catch the world record WGSF for years , like the essay said Gives my life meaning Lol . All jokeing aside you should be so proud that you have instilled such values in your daughter in times as these , so hard on the young now to not give into so so many presures . easy to build a world class fishing rod , LOTS harder to raise a world class daughter , seams you can do both , my respect . We have the same problem in T.O. , everyone talks about the water front NO on does anything , most prime spots eaten up by huge condo,s or left to waste . Except for a large bar , 7000 plus people on a weekend night , and some movie studio that never got off the ground prime money makeing space (lots of taxes to be made)is left to waste . If we had of got the olympics something might have been done , but we have a huge lake right in front of us no need to drive hours , and If people had a interest in its use you would see the money reinvested and the beaches etc. would be alot cleaner but in stead we drive hours to go up north and turn our backs on what we have .

A few years ago (read many for you young guys) I allways took my boat over to the south side to fish the bar from april to june (had a slip in port untill june and than subleased to a sail boat guy and came back to T.O. to fish the drop off untill fall)one day I had a party that wanted to go up the river at lunch time , cook up some trout we had caught enjoying the sights in the gourge and than fish the late shift on the way back. I had years of fishing off the mouth and knew the waters between Grimsby to the bar like the back of my hand , but the river was unknown waters. So upon entering the river (I than had a 38 foot sport fish not a small boat, twin 4 fortys the whole nine yards)I stayed in the middle going slow and watching the graph afraid to hit a sand bar or run agroud 90 feet of water under me most times and never went shallower than 25 feet so all was well . Had a 20 + footer 500 or so yards ahead of me and I followed in his wake hopeing he knew what he was doing . We went around a bend and he headed in close to shore , damn what to do now do I follow in close or stay in middle well all of a sudden the boat (as I said this was not a dinggy) spun around and we were headed back the way we came (poor guy in the head came up with wet spots all over his pants , yelling what the hell happened) the power of the current in the whirl pool has to be felt to be belived spun the boat around like a top . After that day I studied the river and learned where and when to turn and NEVER again ventured into the whirl pool . Crazy ,these people were lucky to get home alive .

Fishing TO islands with my 10 year old son 2 years ago , a spot by the water plant , my son (thank god) had long pants and hikeing boots with thick socks me (dumb old guy) had on sandles and shorts ,no socks. We found a spot off the road to the water plant , first cast son gets a nice bass , so we set up there and we had probably had the best day of bass and bowfins we have ever had on the island , lots of fish and the bowfins fought like mad. So with the fishing good I did not have the heart to tell my son we got to get out of here , these ants are eating me alive ,doused in deet they still were eating me . When the bite died dowm(the fishing bite the ants never stopped) I told my son time to go , on the boat home I started to feel like you said very week and could not catch my breath . When we got to city side I found I could not drive my car as my vision was blurred and I was haveing a hard time breathing . made it to the hospital at queen and I think church and went into emerg . where I collasped on floor just inside doors . I was checked for allerges after but the docs said the poison from these ants even if you are not allerget can do this to you . Glad you are ok , this from someone who knows first hand what these guys can do . -

Each to his own my daddy allways said but to me SPAM is spam , and to Mister Geary let your happy customers toot your horn ,will mean alot more to the people here .Just my take on things and as TERRY said this is a disscussion board and we are haveing a peacefull discussion . One day God and Adam were walking the garden. God told Adam that it was time to populate the Earth. "Adam, you can start by kissing Eve." Adam looks puzzled at God, "Lord, what is a kiss?". God explained, and then Adam took Eve behind the bush and kissed her. A little while later, Adam returned with a big smile and said, "Lord! That was great! What's next?" "Adam, I now want you to caress Eve." Puzzled again he asks, "Lord, what is caress?" God explained, and then Adam took Eve behind the bush and caressed her. A little while later, Adam returned with a big smile and said, "Lord that was even better than a kiss! What's next?" "Here is what gets the deed done. I now want you to make love to Eve." Puzzled yet again, "Lord, what is make love?" asked Adam. God explained, and then Adam took Eve behind the bush. A few seconds later, Adam returned and asked, "Lord, what is a headache?" And you wonder why we fish .....

A real good friend has a cottage on a small lake outside bancroft and invites me there a few times every year . Four years ago I caught a 2 1/2- 3 pound bass off his dock at night , it had only one eye . I thought wow he lived this long with one eye , so after some thought I let him go , let nature take its course . I have caught this bass 5 times since and its now close to 5 pounds . Been up there twice since opener and have not as yet seen him but hopeing hes still around . He lived at least 3 years that I know and maybe more , heres hopeing I will catch him again this year and hes still alive and well . Fish are not as delicate as we believe as long as you dont rip out their gills I think they do ok , catch and release does work , just take care at how you handle them and keep your hands out of their gills .
