Same thing last night with me, dropping my son off. Guy all in dark clothing standing in the middle of the turn in lane in an industrial division with bad lighting. Saving grace is he stopped to light up a smoke in the middle of the laneway and I saw the lighter. Otherwise he was completely hidden in the shadow of the building

Tactical Flashlight - Recommendations Please (NF - sort of)
Fang replied to T-Bone's topic in General Discussion
Agree with Drifter, my house, boat and hunting packs are full of the Garrison 150 Lumen flashlight. They sell them under the Mastercraft label now and the POWER METAL model is on sale this week for $14.99 - great compact flashlight and very durable. I also have a couple of LED Lenser lights I bought from Lowes Hardware on sale. The PR14 at $70 is an awesome flashlight especially when it goes on sale for $40 (what I paid) 350 Lumen on 4 AA batteries. Lights up half the lake and you can focus the beam. -
If it's strictly trolling the the shimano tekota 300LC is about as good as it gets. The Okuma cold water reels are newer in the market and so far no issues that I hear about. A size 15 should work for your needs If you cast as we'll then Abu 5500 or 6500 come in line counters too

As a follow up, MNR officer I heard discussing this at a hunting show said if your anchor is down then I'll be 100% sure your forward momentum is stopped

don't know if you can actually ever see this printed in a formal regulation but this is how I and all my duck hunting buddies were taught and have since practiced From FAQ published by Government Canada site on Migratory Bird Hunting Question: While hunting from a boat, may I start shooting at waterfowl as soon as the engine has been turned off? Answer: No. Hunting may only commence once the motor has been turned off and the boat (any boat, canoe or yacht equipped with a motor) has stopped its forward progress. The only exception I ever ran across is there is a moderate allowance if you are drifting a river where the water speed is carrying you along.

used to know a couple farms that raised and sold them outside Caledon and Orangeville. one of them was pretty big operation with several hundred birds on site they raised them for the game bird farms and private shooting clubs you can still see ads for them on kijiji

The dollar stores sell great little baking trays that can be used for just this. I have 3 little brownie sized trays for adding wood chips to the BBQ. I find it's harder to get a true smoked result using the BBQ. Really your slow cooking as it's harder to get the lower temps for smoking. Still works though and when I don't have 6 hours to spare I add wood chips in my BBQ to get that oh so good extra flavour Loving the cherry wood right now and just did a nice batch of BBQ pork chops on Friday. 2 hours on the BBQ at around 225F BBQ normal for first 10 minutes and then into smoker mode. Chops done to medium rare and then go on the top rack and chips in brownie pan on top of burner set on low. It's about a good 3-4 beer smoking time from there.

What Spiel said I've run Offshores since the day they came out. Cut the wire leads off and replace with longer leads. I run about 18" of weed wacker line in bright green and crimp off with small wire crimps from the hardware store designed for the smallest braided outdoor wire. For salmon and trout I put all lines - mono or braid right at the back. On Erie I played around with 1/2 to all the way and dint really see any difference. Make sure you get some bend in the rigger rods so any hit or struggle by a hooked fish makes the rod bounce.

Easy way to connect bottom bounce weights?
Fang replied to sneak_e_pete's topic in General Discussion
I've been ditching my old spinnerbait style bottom bouncers and going to a quick change clevice. You can convert yours by just cutting off the extension arm. Main line from rod to a bearing swivel. In front of the bearing swivel put on a quick change clevice and a bead. There are heavier clevices for bottom bouncers out there. Tie in your leader length after the bearing swivel to your worm harness. I also tie my harnesses with smaller quick change blade clevice. I can go from a 1/2 once, #3 blade to a 3 ounce, #5 blade in less than a minute. way easier to store too! just type in quick change bottom, bouncers into google -
How long should a 12V battery last for Helix-5 SI GPS?
Fang replied to okumasheffield's topic in General Discussion
most all the outdoor stores only sell the 7mA 12 V batteries. Their OK but check out any real battery store and get a 15mA. Same size dimensions except for 2" taller. On fly ins I get 4 days out of this battery on a HB798 color and the biggest thing you can do it turn down your screen brightness to get longer battery life Magnacharge Batteries in Mississauga has some very cool small 12V that can be easily used for fish finders -
It's not too far a drive east over to Cocoa Beach. I went out with Captain Jamie Glasner of Fin and Fly charters. He does both inshore and offshore and I wouldn't hesitate to rebook with him again. He has an Instagram account where he posts pics of the days catch. If it's nasty weather and rough seas you can always go inshore fir reds and trout as a choice

like Bill said, When I first got my HB, I used the SS to the point of distraction. Several trips I spent more time running my areas mapping out what was down there and boy did I find a ton of stuff. you can see mud to gravel transitions, rocks, debris, even marked a shopping cart pretty clear at the mouth of 16 mile creek on lake ontario. It's so cool to drag and drop a weigh point on the side scan even though you've past the object too. My best find was a very large pile of big timber logs that had submerged into the bottom mud. Clearly I could see the logs lying on the bottom with SS. Away from the shoreline with nothing around it so you'd have to stumble onto it trolling. That night was incredible with walleye on almost every cast

A few years back i tried brining a few dozen larger emerald shiners with Fire Brine (seen it as SAIL recently I think) and they worked great. They stored well in a ziploc bag in a cooler and kept them in the fridge all week. They were tougher and stayed on the hook I bought 4-5 doz shiners and let them dry out with some pickling salt in the fridge. Then coaked them in fire brine overnight. I bought the brite yellow liquid and the minnows will take on that color. Lots of home made recipes from the salmon guys out west for brining cut herring. Have seen minnows done with laundry bluing too and these stay really shiny

So what about all this rain, are you seeing it?
Fang replied to misfish's topic in General Discussion
Just drove through downpour from Aurora right through to Oakville. Got all four games in for first round of ontario 16u baseball playoffs and they cancelled the rest of the weekend totally. Supposed to be non stop down here until tomorrow afternoon. -

What do you take on a fly in, that's well, different?
Fang replied to Headhunter's topic in General Discussion
A quick trip to Dollarama on all my fly in's can get a shopping bag full of goodies that makes life a bit more enjoyable for the week glow in the dark sticks to hang up at night. These places can get pitch black so a little ambient light helps for midnight pee breaks. We also hung some on the dock at night and it's amazing how far you can see these things Mouse trap/moth balls - nothing ruins a nights sleep when you hear little scurrying feet inside the cabin. EAR PLUGS!! - a must have Can of air freshener - nuff said! Freezer bags for the boat and leftovers mosquito coils and holder for the boat BBQ lighter and brush Dish towel - extra for cabin and 1 in the boat can opener - yes I have been on a fly in and found the one and only can opener in the cabin broken I always pack small 2 way radios as well. Mine have the weather channel and it's great to keep in touch when you can with each boat. They have limited range but work great. Plus always good to chirp your buddies when you're on fish. Just walk down each aisle and check stuff out and you'll be amazed at what you might need for the trip -
We've always stepped on the cavitation plate as the motors usually in the down position. We stop for swims and snorkeling a lot up north and even I can haul my big carcass back in the boat this way. I can always reach up on the motor and drop the trim down if it's still up to high from being on plane. Kind of hard on the knees getting over the transom but it works

Had the same scenario on some of the early boat rentals purchased by my sister in laws resort on Temagami. First series of deluxe rental boats were powered by 15 and 25 HP and it was always a pain for maintaining battery levels through charger systems especially when guests are involved. They'd forget to plug them in or worst off was actually leaving stuff on overnight in the boat like fish finders, lights, live wells and bilge pump while tied to the dock. If you go chargers you better get a few back up batteries as no guest wants to be down when a battery is doa at 6 in the morning. Worth every penny when our next rental boats came in with alternators. You'll still run into dead batteries for reasons above but you won't have all the daily maintenance.

Clothing is where you should start first Long sleeves, good socks, pants and even a light jacket. Pack a few neck buffs ( the ones for the sun) There are 2 kinds of head nets - green for Mosquitos and grey for black flies I always sprays my head nets with deet and keep them in a plastic ziplock bag I've done a load of May-June back lake trips in temagami and learned the hard way Once your properly clothed a little deet bug spray on the hands is easy

No problems with that set up, I use my pin a lot more now for carp than I did a few years ago. It's not a rig I fish in and around snags or weeds. It'll work well if you've got some open water to play in like around any river mouths. Small egg sinker and hair rig works well with sweet corn or some of the carp corns like Cukk - my favorite has been the mussels and honey cumin flavor Another good technique is to set up a waggler float (similar to a slip float set up). The long stem float gets set with a few inches of the stem just above the water and acts as a strike indicator. This set up works best for me in water less than 4ft deep. All your bait and chum needs can be found at dollarama. Pick up a couple cans of sweet corn and a pack of breakfast oats. I wet the oats slightly and pack them into little balls to help chum the area.

if it's like temagami the ling or burbot are all pretty decent size for the trout that eats them. you can find small 6" bulldawg clones on ebay that will work for what you're looking to do 4" and 6" tubes will do the trick too

Northern white rhinos have been limited to all captive specimens for over a decade(s) with that number now down to 5 from the December death. This rhino was 44 and way past breeding age The biggest issue here is from the conservation authorities and governments that will not try to establish a population through mixed breeding with southern white rhinos who have rebounded well in the past number of years do to high and extreme conservation efforts There is reported lots of breeding material in frozen storage but at this time captive breeding has been limited to very low success and current technology Probably more info than needed as it shadows the terrible way humans have decimated this animal, but I really like rhinos

I have a nice growing collection of light weight long sleeves. The last couple years I've been down in Florida for my son's baseball training and Walmart has a very nice $25 long sleeve in the fishing department that is UV 35 protection There is a line of clothing called Salt Life that is sold through BEALLS Department stores. Lots of salt water images but they have some plain camo and color tops as well. This spring I picked up an Underarmor and 2 salt life long sleeves that you'll see in photos this year for sure. BEALLS also has a line up called REEL LEGENDS and stuff is priced well. Easy enough to order as well, just like ordering from BPS online here's one that's on sale right now at BEALLS http://www.beallsflorida.com/online/reel-legends-mens-freeline-graphic-camo-t-shirt
